Hi All
Great site, lot's of helpful people! Recently purchased a house with salt water pool, first pool I have owned and I like to DIY so willing to learn what I need too to keep my pool safe for the kids and looking good. Pool water looks good but I am currently using a pool shop for testing and while they are helpful I can't help thinking I'm coming out with products I don't really need???? First visit there I spent $300 on chems and today another $100, so my objective is to learn how to maintain the pool without using or paying for excessive branded pool products! So far I've been sold, Salt Pool Sparkle, Optimiser (Expensive! I now know it is simply broax), Polysheen, Stabiliser, Algecide (Green liquid), salt, Stain & Scale control, something else too I can't recall - (all BioGuard products)
Todays test results (From pool shop)
FC - 3.6
TC - 4
PH - 7.8 (Just added 1L of HCL)
TA - 124
CH - 370 (Purchased BioGuard "Salt pool stain & scale control based on shop rec.)
CYA - 31 (Assuming that is "Stabiliser" on the test report - looks like it could do with a boost coming into summer?)
Salt - 4620ppm (Target is 4000 with max 4800 according to SWG manual)
So all good so far? Just recently I have noticed a white sediment on the pool floor which looks like snow flakes and dissolves down a bit like salt when rubbed between fingers but has no taste or odour, reading about it here the thought was nappy absorber but doing some googling other options were a build on the SWG element so I cleaned that in dilute acid and seems to have rectified the problem.
Next step is to purchase a good testing kit and learn what I need and don't need as far as chemicals go and how to replace those expensvie branded ones for generic options!
Cheers
