Iodine vs Chlorine

Anyone ever heard of using iodine instead of chlorine?

Safety of iodine as a disinfectant in swimming pools

Very interesting indeed. I was very surprised to see that the study was from 1963, yet 52 years later chlorine is still the choice of pool sanitizer.

Maybe the iodine is not cost-effective (I have no idea how much a gallon of iodine costs), nor how friendly it would be to the environment as runoff water.

My first thought was of Mercurochrome, but no, that's mercury not Iodine. We used to paint ourselves with it though...and I only twitch a little now ::shake shake:: LOL

There are different kinds of iodine.. iodine is a required nutrient for every cell in our bodies.
