New pool owner and completely clueless

You are doing great! I would save the pucks for when you are away from home and not able to add bleach daily. Walmart price for bleach is FANTASTIC. Jf your water is clear, swim and add bleach in the evening until you get your test kit and know what your numbers really are. Enjoy your new pool...

No water coming through return jets. Possibly due to Cracked Union Nut?

As a temp fix, try wrapping the whole union and nut with plastic/warp-n-seal type wrap to keep air from leaking in. If the union nut is the problem that should allow the pump to prime. Good luck.

The other possibility is Cal hypo pucks which won't increase CYA but...

    Safe to swim ??

If this is just a maintenance dose (will not raise FC to shock levels) you can jump in as soon as your done pouring. I would spread my pour among all your returns to get quicker distribution.

My test kit is here!!! :D:D:D

Looks like you're getting things under control, your water should be looking better. I would get your PH right (the last I saw you post was 6.8) by adding some borax and not worry about TA now. Your other concern should be your high CYA. Since your water is very economical, I'd drain a foot down...

    Overwhelmed!

If you're going to use an extension cord I would get a GFI adapter (plugs into outlet before extension cord) to get some protection from electrical shock. It is not perfect, but is much better than nothing.
