Pool Update, plus pool got dirty after rain/flooding - thoughts?

Hi All, I've been using the TFP method for a couple months now, and it is one of the best choices I've made, in regards to the pool. Every time I have people over swimming, they comment on how clear the pool is, they always ask if it is salt water (which it isn't) because it never smells of...

So, I've been SLAMming since Tuesday, pool looking good. Looks clear, but had a 2.0 ppm drop in the chlorine overnight, so still continuing to SLAM. Today was sunny, so I did another CYA test, this time outdoors. I did it a couple times and it seems that my CYA is 50, not 70. I know this is...

    Pool equipment identification

Ok. Gotcha. I already read that well detailed post, thanks for putting it together. Reason for doing the backwash is because my pressure is getting a bit high (25 - 30psi), when after the last backwash it was at 8-10 psi. We have a very large oak tree over the pool that drops tons of...

    Pool equipment identification

The plunger valve has "Lock" and "Open" settings, nothing else. I thought with backwash I'd have to replace DE as well. Was thinking I'd pull the grids out, hose them down, and do clean everything. The pool maintenance guy did 1 backwash in the 7 months I had him, so I'm sure it is way...

    Pool equipment identification

Appreciate your help, once again. Very helpful. With all the rain, my pool has gotten too full, can I drop the water level just by backwashing, or is there a more preferred method for dropping the water level? - - - Updated - - - There is 1 floor drain and 1 skimmer. Maybe that opens/closes...

    Pool equipment identification

I know what most of my pool equipment does, but I have two valves that I'm not sure about. I'm going to do my first backwash this weekend. Based on what I've read, this is a pull valve for switching the filter to backwash mode, correct? This valve I'm not sure about. There is a pipe...

Took a couple pictures this morning (wish I had a couple from yesterday to show the change). Couldn't see the drain yesterday (8 feet down), and it is visible today. Still more work to be done, but not overwhelmed. When we first bought the house, the pool was a green algae swamp, and I was...

Update: got FC to 28 last night. This morning it was 25. Brought it back up to 28. It's raining, how much will that effect the SLAM, if any? I can tell that the pools does look more clear than it did last night. Still got a bit to go to get to completely clear, but it is improved.

    2016 bleach prices

Just had the same thing happen at a Walmart in Dallas. 10% Pool Essentials was marked as $3.64, when they rang it up, was $2.50. Was going to post in the forum about my great find... Only to see this thread and see that it wasn't a 'new' find.

Got home, checked FC and it is up to 8. Based on Richard's suggestion, I should get it to 10, but there is definitely algae in the water. It's got a teal/green hue and I scrubbed the pool and quite a bit green algae came loose. Do I just bring it up to 10, or do I go right to Slamming or is...

I put in 242 oz of 7.85% bleach this morning, to target an FC of 8. When I get home, I'll brush the pool some more and I'll check FC and try to get it up to 10. Updated signature. This weekend I'm going to figure out how to backwash.

I am in the process of switching to the TFP method. I've been using a local guy to maintain the pool, since I bought the house in Sept 2015, and I've watched him throw tabs in a floater and dump bags of shock periodically, and never test the water. Decided it is time for me to takeover. Had a...
