    Opening For the First Time

A million thanks for the help and advice! I still have some chlorine pucks leftover from last year...would it be okay to put a couple in my floating duck to slowly raise my cya over the next couple of weeks?

    Opening For the First Time

Ok...so once the pump was running, I added a gal of 12% chlorine....15 mins later I'm getting a fc reading of 9 and a cc reading of zero. My cya level is still less than 30...the solution is virtually clear when I add it. Suggestions on when to try another fc/cc reading??

    Opening For the First Time

LOL -- Thanks for clearing that up (no pun intended!!). In that case, my CYA is virtually zero....the water is clear after mixing and dropping into the view tube. (My CYA was so bad last year that it did look like skim milk - thanks to too many pucks before I found this site and switched to...

    Opening For the First Time

So, here's the crazy thing - i just ran the test with straight water from my tap -- levels are also over 100 - dot never disappears. I think I need to buy a new bottle of reagent solution and try again? I bought the kit late last year, and kept it inside over the winter - it is not even a year...

    Opening For the First Time

We purchased a 24' round above-ground pool last year and we are opening it for the first time. We removed the cover yesterday, and I was thrilled to see clear water, with just some dirt on the bottom to be vacuumed up. We let it fill up to the skimmer overnight (and my water is HARD), and I...

How to Get Ahead of Pool "Accidents"?

One is six, and I have no concerns about him. The other on is 3 - and his potty training has been a nightmare. We used to set up a baby pool in the yard when they would come, and twice he even went #2 in it. He's my concern.

How to Get Ahead of Pool "Accidents"?

I'm a newbie pool owner, and I am just getting a hand on keeping my my water crystal clear with balanced chemicals... but this weekend I have family staying with us for the weekend with two little ones - I KNOW both will have accidents in the pool (and I know I won't be informed of them). Is...

First Time Owner - Frustrated and Broke

AH, you already answered my next question -- how long do I have to wait between adding MA and Chlorine? And for my target of 7, I will increase my 10% bleach to 66oz. Thank you all, again!! I was so upset last week and felt like this pool thing was going to be a complicated nightmare. It's...

First Time Owner - Frustrated and Broke

I have to correct that - it was 1lb, 12 oz - for a total of 28 ounces - that was my mistake (when writing, not when adding it to the pool - she sold me 1 lb bags, so i just pulled 4 oz out of one of the bags and dumped them in. What frustrates me the most is that no one told me that all these...

1lb PLUS 20oz - total of 36 ounces - - - Updated - - - Sooo...the duck is coming out (er, staying in without the trichlor pucks, just because he's cute when he lights up at night) We are considering draining the pool by half and having it refilled with city water (to lower both the CYA and...

First Time Owner - Frustrated and Broke

So - here's my rundown - Pool was installed on June 28, fully filled with city-well water by the 30th. At that time, Leslie's told me to just put 3 3" jumbo tri-chlor pucks in the duck (done) July 2nd they sampled my water and told me to add: 4 lbs of Dry Acid (1 lb per hour every 4 hours)...

First Time Owner - Frustrated and Broke

Since I won't be seeing my test kit until sometime next week and we have great pool weather predicted for this weekend, is it safe to swim in my pool "as is" - or should I add some liquid chlorine (bleach) to be on the safe side?

First Time Owner - Frustrated and Broke

Thank you - all of you. Looking at test kits now - wish I could find one at a brick&mortar store. No patience to wait for shipping!! lol - - - Updated - - - On the subject of hardness, my husband and I were honestly discussing draining the pool halfway and having it filled with city water...

First Time Owner - Frustrated and Broke

According to my "Water Analysis" - "Optimizer Plus enhances water quality, softens water and prevents algae." In fairness, the pool store totally ignored that section of the report - focusing only the high pH and low chlorine. I figured I'd put the whole report on here.

First Time Owner - Frustrated and Broke

My pool was installed 2 week ago and we've had nothing but problems trying to get our chemicals balanced. I've brought water samples to different stores, and rec'd different readings each time. The most current reading (today) is: TA: 235 pH: 8.4 Hardness: 672 Free Chlorine 0.1 Total Chlorine...
