    Hot tub pipe?

Likely the air intake for the jets or a blower line with no blower. Lift it above water level. If it stops leaking keep it there. If not, you are pressurizing your vacuum lines and probably have some bad jets.

    Hot spring Moto massager leak

Not sure what to say... You are correct? Welcome to the wonderful world of spa repair, now you know why we all hate hot springs. Yes, leaks at the jet drain are not uncommon, so much so that they make a kit to fix it from inside the tub that works about 25% of the time. But still the majority of...

"stuck" in Viet Nam: what IS this pesky sediment?

I thought I would throw it out there that a sand filter, with grains slightly bigger than coarse table salt, is least efficient when clean. There is more space between grains for minute particles to return through. This is what DE does for you, it clogs your filter so it can get smaller...

Reviving out of service pool: FG & deck Refresh

Ok. If your pump is below water level you are good. Pressure side of pump is not terribly concerned about height except with regard to head at priming, which shouldn't be a problem in this case. I have plumbed heat exchangers on roofs with no issues usings a VSP. Your solar array is more of a...

Reviving out of service pool: FG & deck Refresh

Well done! The biggest issue I see is going to be priming the system with your suction side going so high. You might consider getting that a bit lower or it's going to be a (bigger) struggle to get it started. If that is not possible, get a garden hose connector in up high on the suction so you...

    New Spa in Ohio

Dichlor is roughly half cya. For each 1ppm you raise chlorine, you raise cya .9ppm.

    New Spa in Ohio

To me, continuously feeding chlorine while continuously eliminating it with ozone is a waste of chemicals, you still need to add some after each use to counter "heavy bather load". One person in a 500 gallon spa is heavy bather load in pool terms. Manufacturers have to cover their butts by...

    New Spa in Ohio

Bad idea. Tablets drag down ph, and if (when) the floater ends up in the skimmer it releases much more than desired due to increased flow and sends concentrated low ph chlorine straight through your heater, eating it up in record time.

Both uv and ozone will burn off chlorine. That is half the point in having them and the reason some call them a "chlorine free system" even though you still need to add chlorine after each use for sanitation. By the time you next use it, the chlorine is basically gone from the water, leaving you...

I love a big cartridge filter, except at closing when it's time to clean it. ;)

Can't get filter working properly to clean pool

You will have to play with the valves to figure that out. I don't speak that language.

Can't get filter working properly to clean pool

In your pic all the valves are closed. They are open when the handle is parallel to the pipe. Open them all except the bottom one by the blue handle, which appears to be the drain. You also have a multiport valve on the filter. Make sure it is set to filter.

Yeah, I am guilty of the same. Still learning the ins-and-outs of forums. Kinda new to them myself, going on 3 months since my very first forum experience on FTE (ford truck enthusiasts). I'm hooked. :goodjob: But there I go "hijacking" your thread...

Reviving out of service pool: FG & deck Refresh

Just jumped in from the quote notification. Sorry, but I did not read all 5 pages. o_O Wow, awesome pad! That looks like fun. I was the guy they referred when they were scared. Or "too busy"... I like a challenge, normal stuff is boring. I'd take that job in a heartbeat. As for your spa, give...

    Brown Stain

Hard to tell from a pic. See what the builder says. Trust me, he doesn't want that stain there any more than you. Leaves, and especially acorns, can leave some pretty stubborn stains.

Cleaning out pump basket resulted in my pool being filled with dirt

Bad rule of thumb. Or I should say, old rule of thumb from a time when everyone had 3/4 hp pumps and identical plumbing. No, it was bad even then. (Man I feel old.) Today, 10 psi could be 200% on some systems and 50% on others. All depends on run speed (with a VS pump), features such as solar or...

Cleaning out pump basket resulted in my pool being filled with dirt

Agreed, but dirt and debris from the skimmer can flow back into the pool when the prime is released, depending on plumbing. Sand under the returns is always bad laterals in my experience.

Cleaning out pump basket resulted in my pool being filled with dirt

Dirty water going back to your pool can happen. Sand going to the pool and accumulating under the jets is an indication of damaged laterals in the filter, and will continue until you have put all the sand in the pool or replaced the laterals.

    Help! Newbie here!

Define "easiest". Sand is very easy to maintain, but requires more frequent maintenance and is the least effective for filtration. De is very effective, but a bit more difficult to take care of while still needing fairly frequent attention. Cartridge is also very effective and requires...

Need some (lots of) help diagramming my plumbing, backwashing DE filter, and troubleshooting Polaris

I carried a plastic brush for liner pools and a ss for plaster, but I was a repair tech, not a maintenance tech, so if I was there it was bad enough for the weekly guy to be asking for help. In 25 years, I have never been a weekly maintenance tech. Which is not to say I don't do maintenance, I...

Does Anyone know what this is?

It is clearly an insert, by the ribs on the side which appear a bit scraped from whatever it was in, which suggests metal. It also does not appear to be scuffed on the bottom so is probably not from patio furniture furniture. Aside from that, I have no clue.

    Just fired the pool guy

Yep, I'd have fired him, too. And I AM a pool guy. That is a very small pool. I used to work for a big commercial outfit. We had 8 trucks running service on commercial and residential when I started as assistant service manager. After I learned that those 8 trucks all always added a 5 gallon...

Need some (lots of) help diagramming my plumbing, backwashing DE filter, and troubleshooting Polaris

Gunite is concrete, marcite is plaster. I am not sure why you would have a liner in a marcite pool unless it was leaking from the vessel. You want a steel brush for plaster, plastic for a liner.

Need some (lots of) help diagramming my plumbing, backwashing DE filter, and troubleshooting Polaris

I love the "??" designation for that odd little loop. Bet that's how it was labeled on the builders drawings, too.;) It honestly bothers me to not know what they are. I want to go over there and track it down myself! This fixing via the internet stuff is tough. I never really realized just how...

Need some (lots of) help diagramming my plumbing, backwashing DE filter, and troubleshooting Polaris

That is because your valve is leaking. When the pump is on, water goes out. When the pump is off, air goes in and water goes back to the pool. Fix the valve and your pump will remain full.
