    Solar cover

Thanks for all the reply. Nectarologist: unfortunately, it’s electric which is why so expensive. I’ve hardly used it because I did some calculations I think it came to be $25 a day if it was on all day. Yikes. My primary goal was for it to retain the extra 2-4 degrees of heat, not necessarily...

    Solar cover

Hi all - just trying to prep for the upcoming summer. my thought this year was to explore getting a solar pool cover. I generally enjoy the pool on the warmer side (85-87 degrees), and for my two summers here so far, I notice my pool is generally at 81-83 degrees unless a Major heat wave etc...

    SLAMming for almost 2 weeks

Make sure you add the DE extremely slowly. A little at a time. I added to quickly and the pressure rose 25% within a few hours - I backwashed etc. realized that I was really just backwashing mostly the DE.

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

Yes. For 3 weeks straight I had stable FC. I had SWG off for initial 3 weeks and passed OCLT for 2 weeks straight with SWG turned off. For last 1.5 weeks have had SWG on and everything was stable. Last night had to add the LC to get to shock level. Today adding just a touch of DE and letting...

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

12 hours later, I was close to 25% psi rise so I went ahead and backwashed. Previously to doing the DE drill, I’d reach 25% in 2-3 hours. I think I know what happened. I think originally when doing the DE exercise, I was putting to much DE in - and although I waited the 2 min to stabilize each...

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

Thanks. I’ll look into it. Well, I can’t explain it, but I just checked pool and cleaned leaves etc. Pool has never looked more clear - in all my efforts this past 30-40 days. Overcast day here FC is still 22-23. PH has climbed a bit to 7.6/7.7, though FC is above 10 so this can’t be taken...

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

This morning: The good news is the pool looks almost like it did prior to all these leaves. FC is 22.5. So no drop overnight from the 3 gallons I put in. I really have no idea... Put the robot in and added some DE..

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

Just checked FC. It’s down to 5. It was 9-10 about 7 hours ago. Something is going on as it has been very stable FC wise last 3 weeks. The only change that I know of is the leaves falling. I lowered PH to 7.2 and brought back up to SLAM level for overnight.

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

Robot has been in daily. I’m using the smaller filters it Came with. I don’t get much. Standard very small debri.

It’s a 500 lb sand filter. Returns are pointed toward the surface.

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

I generally would have no problem turning the filter off but as my birch tree keeps shedding leaves m (skimmer baskets getting a bit full every 2-3 hours) not sure if It’s a good idea to not have the pump skimming right now

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

Thanks but doesn’t necessarily explain why after several weeks of marginal improvement took a step back today.

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

Yes. I’ve done the DE exercise numerous times. Several weeks ago, I did it few days back to back actually. Adding DE to raise 1 psi, then monitoring - would last 4 hours or so until 25% increase then I would backwash. Then I would repeat exercise. I’ve done this numerous times.

1 thing to add...prior to the deep clean of the sand filter, cleaned the ladder and behind the light/niche. Thank you.

    The Pool that wouldn’t clear...

Hi all. I had another post regarding opening my pool, but that has long come and gone so I’ve created a new thread that hopefully will shed some light on my situation. I opened the pool on May 4 (green swamp). Followed SLAM protocol. Pool went 100% blue within 1.5 weeks, however was still...

Planning as much as possible for pool opening

I never said it was a contest? I’m just trying to get the water crystal clear.

Planning as much as possible for pool opening

It’s been 3 weeks and 1 day since opening. Pool has been blue for about 2 weeks. I’ve passed OCLT for about 2 weeks. Marty has also been helping me (a lot - thank you). For some reason my pool just will not clear. I kept slam until I passed OCLT for almost 8 days straight and we realized that...

Planning as much as possible for pool opening

Here’s a brain puzzler. Last night, I turned the pump off for 8 hours (thanks Marty - good tip) to see if could get any settling (this was before realizing there was algae in light). Turned the pump back on in morning and did the light cleaning as described above. This afternoon, noticed my...

Planning as much as possible for pool opening

Thanks to a tip from Marty, I removed the light. There was algae in the niche. Also on the light (attached). Hopefully this will help my clarity issue.

Planning as much as possible for pool opening

Day 10 of SLAM. Did aggressive DE treatment all day today. About 2-3 hours after each SE treatment I reached my 25% psi increase and I backwashed. Robot running all day. Just still, seems...cloudy...

Planning as much as possible for pool opening

SLAM has been going ... though I feel last 2 days have been a bit stagnant. The pool went from green to blue and most (if not all algae is gone). However, pool remains cloudy and the cloudiness level has really been the same last 2 days. I have been relentless on keeping the FC in check for the...

How do you measure your chlorine

I use a clear workout shaker cup ... it has the OZs listed so very easy to measure.

Planning as much as possible for pool opening

SLAM continues. day 6. Definite improvement on overall conditions. Only thing that still puzzles me a bit is that I’ve only had to backwash once (day 3). Gauge was reading resting psi until day 3 afternoon when all of a sudden I checked it and it was 10-15% stage and returns were moving slow...

    Cost to run heater

Yikes. That’s crazy and not good! I may just wait and use Memorial Day weekend as a target date to use it then..gives me plenty of time to SLAM it and stabilize. Not worth $22 a day!

    Cost to run heater

2nd year home owner w/pool. Heater info in attached images. Last year, opened late (memorial day weekend), and never really used the heater. Used it a couple days in late September ( worked fine). I was just curious on average cost to run these. I know it’s all dependent on your rate per kw...

Planning as much as possible for pool opening

SLAM continues - water is slowly clearing. Algae appears normal - no noticeable solids anymore. Brushing with the pool results in a fine, green dust. But there’s still quite a bit of it :). I was holding off on throwing the robot in...it would help stir things up, but perhaps not yet... too...
