    C-19 Vaccine-I got one

Casey, so sorry for what you (and your husband) are going through. I don’t know why ignorant people chose to make this into a political issue, it is and always has been a public health emergency. My wife still lives with the long term effects of having polio as a very young child. If only the...

What did you do to your pool today?

Started using my solar cover. With the cover and solar panels, we are hopeful of stretching our water aerobics sessions out through Thanksgiving.

What's your biggest pool "uh oh?"

Back flushing the contents of my DE filter into the pool. BTW: Great idea, but fill the bucket with concrete instead of sand. And never leave an umbrella out when not in use. When you close it always put a bungee around it to prevent opening, and if not using, put it away. My neighbor’s...

What did you do to your pool today?

Turned the solar heat back on (water temp had dropped to 80), ran all my chem tests, and sent Kokapelli out to give it a cleaning.

Based on my past experience, you do not want a cherry tree anywhere near a pool.

    Umbrella stays in sun shelf

I always remove an umbrella when it’s not in use. Even if you close it, it can still be popped open by a gust of wind. Even if you bungee it closed, dirt and grit can accumulate around the base and make it impossible to remove. Ones left in water are worse. Umbrella shafts are commonly made of...

    What's your robot's name?

Kokapelli. My (then 5 year old) granddaughter came up with that one. How does a five year old even know about Kokapelli, let alone how appropriate the name is?

    Ledge lounger and depth

If you don’t want to be wet leave your lounger on the pool deck. My ledge is at the second step into the pool. That puts it at the seat level of a standard patio recliner and deep enough for little kids to play. We love the depth.

What's the hottest your pool gets?

Pool temp Spa temp Air temp (and that’s in the shade). But “it’s a dry heat” It’s summer in Tucson! Without a cover or adding heat from the solar system, my pool never gets above 89. The evaporation seems to balance the sun‘s heat about there. My pool only sees any shade in late afternoon...

Fence questions for new pools - Lawyer types needed!

I would wait and see what the inspector says about the fence. The easiest solution is to flip the panels on the areas where there is not a pool on the other side. The neighbor should not object, since you will be putting the “finished side” (without the bracing) on their side of the fence.

Can be exhausting trying to teach the TFP methodology

There are certain situations where the “traditional” approach to pool care works. Or at least keeps from having algae, although the actual water quality may be horrible. Someone who lives in a northern climate and has a sand filter may be able to use trichlor pucks and ”shock” regularly...

    C-19 Vaccine-I got one

From what I understand, they are allowed to charge your insurance, only for administering the shot, not for the vaccine. They are prohibited by law from charging the patient directly. The mass sites mostly don‘t even collect insurance information, and are funded through local, state or federal...

    How screwed am I?

I had a leak under the sink that warped a small portion of the hardwood floor. My homeowners insurance payed all cost of repairs, including thousands to replace all the flooring throughout about 1/3 of the house. It was nothing I expected. When the adjuster came out, he was the one who first...

    C-19 Vaccine-I got one

I got an email reminder to make my appointment for dose 2. It had a link that I tried to use several times a day for three solid days. After no success in scheduling at the same site that did dose 1, I tried the site for the State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, where the are operating 24/7. I was...

    C-19 Vaccine-I got one

Most employers are trying to stagger the injections so that the whole staff isn’t sick at the same time. But then with only about 55% taking the vaccines (in some places) it may not be that big of an issue.

    C-19 Vaccine-I got one

As each car was given the vaccine, the time of administration was written on the outside corner of the car’s windshield. Golden Retriever Is Here

Crate training is key to housebreaking. Dogs are denning animals and will learn to feel safest in a crate. Once they learn to not soil there little “home” you simply expand that notion of home. We did it by keeping the crate in a laundry room. After that, a gate was set up and then gradually...

What did you do to your pool today?

Working on getting my TA down. With a starting point of 130 and a goal of 60-70, this is going to take gallons of acid and days of aeration. Having 50 ppm borates just makes it that much more difficult. Sucks to have high calcium, alkaline water, but I guess it’s better than some folks up...
