    Water Boatmen HELP

Wow...I have never heard of such a thing! Thankfully the only "critter" issue we are currently having is at dusk when some bats come around to get a drink of water from the pool. As long as they don't poop in the pool or fly into me, we don't have a problem. :)

How long should it take to clear?

Keep it up at the correct SLAM level and let the pump run. It'll take a bit, but keep the faith!

Pool green for over a year.

Out-Freaking-Standing!!! I too would have loved to see the end result, but we know that you WON that battle! AWESOME job Mike!

Use pool time shock to chlorinate?

it is dichlor with copper in it. I wouldn't use it.

Pool green for over a year.

I would be cautious draining the pool. I could see something happening to the liner and the homeowner trying to hold you accountable. Not saying she would have a viable/successful claim but just the possibility would make me very trigger shy on going that far. Of course, I am a lawyer...

Pool green for over a year.

I would say you have a decent chance if you keep at it. Looks better all ready. And awesome helping out...society needs a few more Mike1162s!!!

    Thanks Ida

That can be tough when the rain rate exceeds 5" in an hour, even with the best of drainage systems.

    Thanks Ida

This. We have some torrential downpours that flooded the pool with all sorts of Crud. For the most part, running the filter 24/7 for 2-3 days (and brushing every few hours) got it cleared right back up. Also, I never had to SLAM to clear the muck so there's that. Edit: Well, looks like the...

    I can't find any chlorine

It's a little bit of a drive but some of the Atwood's still have it in stock. The one closest to you shows one gallon but the one up closest to me (OKC, OK) has 25 but looks like they are limiting it. I remember when there were warnings about the impending shortage, a lot of people were...

Had algae slammed for 5 days it’s back weeks later now what?

If it's not clear then it is quite possible you have algae. I would recommend doing an overnight chorine loss test (OCLT) to make sure. Here is the procedure: Perform the Overnight FC Loss Test (OCLT) - Trouble Free Pool

How many SLAM's a season do you do?

This is your main problem. You really need to maintain the level EVERY SINGLE DAY....NO EXCEPTIONS. A drain and refill would be much more work than is needed at this point. If you lower your CYA, you are going to use more chlorine. I would recommend a review of Pool School to get you back on...

Going on Vacation for 10 days...

Like Texas Splash said, if your CYA is low enough, pucks should do the trick for you. I have done this a couple of time while traveling and it has worked great.

Bleach v corona virus - backup plan?

Head over to Atwood in Shawnee. They have plenty of 10% and it's 1.99 a gallon, just about the best deal out there.

Bleach v corona virus - backup plan?

    I purchased 60 gallons, 10% concentration.

Bleach v corona virus - backup plan?

As I mentioned in a couple other threads, I went to Atwood's last week and they had a pallet and a half sitting there. I got enough to get me through summer (as I normally do) and barely put a dent in their supply. And at $1.99, it's about the best price going around here.

Travel Question(s) Trichlor and Pump Use

Happy Friday everyone! Dear wife and I will soon be taking a trip and will be gone for about 10 days. I have read up on the use of pucks for travel and think I have this figured out (for the most part). The only questions that I do have is if this brand/type of trichlor is suitable (pic...

    I need some Help!

If it won't "hold" chlorine, then you probably have algae. Have you read pool school and looked at doing a SLAM?

    Adjusting PH while SLAMing

How much time was there between adding chlorine and the test? If it's been a while then the organic material in the pool is probably eating up the chlorine. How are you testing your water?

Cloudy pool, added floc last night

As long as all the large debris is out of there, I think it would help. I would make sure to check the filters after each run, though. Also, if it can't climb walls, you want to make sure that you are still brushing the walls. Actually, any place the robot can't reach should be brushed periodically.

Yes, that is normal after it sits for a bit.

Cloudy pool, added floc last night

Gothca. If you filled it like the instructions said, then you are good to go...just wanted to make sure you were getting accurate results. The CYA is somewhat of a PIA. :)

Cloudy pool, added floc last night

I noticed in your picture, it appears that you are filling the CYA test bottle all the way to the top which may skew the results a bit (not sure how much?) I attached a picture to show where the levels should be...pool water to bottom of label sticker and reagent to top of sticker...no higher.

Cloudy pool, added floc last night

Here are some videos that may be of assistance. I know they helped me some! Edit: The video for calcium hardness indicates that you should use 20 drops of the R-0010 reagent with a 25 ml sample, it should be 10. Also, here are some extended directions that could be of some help...

Cloudy pool, added floc last night

You are getting there Junesb, just trust the process. I had no idea what it involved to own a pool until about 6 months ago. There was so much disinformation out there and it was very difficult to wade through the crud...until I found this forum. Yes, there is a lot to learn. Yes, learning it...

    Post-Flooding

I don't really want to complain about the rain....but it's just been...TOO MUCH! We had another deluge on Saturday night but thankfully the area drains stayed clear and we woke up to a clean pool on Sunday morning.

Excessive Rain, Runoff and Now Nasty Water

Well, thanks to the good folks at TFP, my pool is looking fantastic again in a very short order. I assume that I was only having to deal with dirt and sediment so that made clean up much quicker. When I went to bed last night, there was still a slight haze in the water but I woke up this AM to...

Excessive Rain, Runoff and Now Nasty Water

Very good advice. My office is pretty close to the equipment pad and w/ the window open I can hear the pump. I am also checking/brushing every 30 minutes or so. The weather is absolutely magnificent today, so it gives me a great excuse to go outside often. ;)
