    Green pool

Ok. First of all, welcome!! Second of all you really need to get a proper test kit. I highly recommend this one: TFTestkits.net as will most others on this site. 1800 gallons is a small pool, which right now is to your advantage. There is a SLAM process that you need to follow, and it can be...

    Making Sure

Had to SLAM a friend's pool a couple of years ago. We took a 10 foot rod and marked it every 6 inches. It worked really well to determine how much clearer the water was getting each day. As kimkats said, it's difficult if not darn near impossible to notice slight color changes. Dip the rod in...

    Cloudy teal green/levels all check

Hi, and welcome. First of all what are you using to test? Secondly, yes please post your numbers. Particularly FC, pH, TA, and CYA. You can post CC as well but I expect there's no need as I'm guessing you have organics in your pool.

    Post July Algae Bloom... Questions?

Hey just noticed, you have a pro series pool as do I, and an Intex 2650 sand filter. Can you explain the issue you had with your sand filter again? I didn't quite understand that, as the 2650 doesn't have fingers or laterals, but a grid on the bottom.

    Post July Algae Bloom... Questions?

Sorry if you detected attitude. It was certainly not my intent. When I stated that it's nothing out of the ordinary, I mean I doubt very much it's a mutant strain of algae. Rain does affect your chemistry somewhat, but I will stick by my thought that the culprit is too low chlorine level for the...

    Post July Algae Bloom... Questions?

Nothing you've said sounds out of ordinary for the situation you've described. You were dosing your pool for a CYA level that was lower than the actual level. Pool was being used, not testing your CL level, and BAM! - algae. You need to follow the SLAM procedure as Jason above said.

    Pool green...started slam....but?

If I read correctly, you lost 11 ppm overnight (from 38 to 27)? Did I read that right? If so, no you are not finished SLAMing.
  9. GreatCanadian

    Is this algae?

Beens is right. You said you HAVE been testing as required, but you did not test for CYA after you added. To quote you, "It last tested between 10 and 20 (so low it was inaccurate) so I added some [old] CYA. Enough to raise it by about 20 ppm according to the calculator". There's no way to know...

No you're not starting over, you're just continuing. If the niche is the problem you will be able to physically clean a lot of the mess, thus leaving less for the SLAM to kill. It will speed up the process.

That may very well be the issue. It often is. You may see almost immediate results when you remove and clean that!

It's working. What you're seeing is perfectly normal, so yes, go ahead and get your hopes up!!!

Also, if you can teach your friend/neighbor to test, and to use pool cause, that would be even better!

    first slam

Well, the midday dose would only added to help the chlorine level a little bit while you can't tend it. You're levels will drop quickly early in the slam process. Wait til day 2 of your SLAM, and depending on loss from day 1 you should be able to make a guess as to what would be a safe amount to...

    White Mold

If you do indeed have algae growing, your SWG may not be able to keep up with the chlorine demand. That's not uncommon. Your SWG may be working fine.

    high phosphates???

What test kit did you order? Are you reading pool school? You are just throwing chemicals into your pool. That won't work. Bleach is good. You did not need to order liquid chlorine. Unless it's cheaper.
  23. GreatCanadian

    high phosphates???

Brace yourself. This could take days. Or weeks, depending on how much algae you have and how vigilant you are with the SLAM. Did you get the test kit?

Let me save you the trouble of researching the test kits. If budget allows, get the TF-100 (or XL version).

This pool Chemical stuff is confusing

I agree with you zea, but something isn't right. If he has algae, then his CC should NOT have been 0 this morning. And I doubt they were. There is something wrong with the test results.
