    Algae/Cloudy pool

If you see no more green, your CC is 0.5 or less, and your FC is holding to within 1 ppm or less of loss overnight, then all you need is filter time and to maintain your proper FC level according to what your CYA level is. Dead algae is white and it can cause the water to look cloudy white...

    stains left after algae treatment

I agree with the others. With proper chlorination, they will go away fairly quickly. But, you need a test kit of your own in order to take care of things correctly. I would suggest a TF-100 or a Taylor K-2006 from tftestkits.net.

    Overnight Cloudy Water

Pollen at this time of year seems kinda unlikely. My guess is that you probably just depleted your FC and didn't fully compete the SLAM process. SLAM the pool and do so until your FC holds to within 1 ppm or less of loss overnight, your water is clear, and your CC is 0.5 ppm or less.

I Added HTH Algae Guard And My Pool Water Is Ruined!

Welcome to TFP! Don't be discouraged. You have not harmed your pool in any way. We can help you fix things. We will need some test results to start with and then we can get you headed in the right direction. I would suggest going ahead and getting yourself a high quality test kit. I...

    White stains on pool

It's hard for me to tell whether I am seeing it or not. Have you spoken to your installer about it? I would like to recommend to you, the purchase of a better test kit. You left out calcium hardness in the results and calcium is a notorious culprit in plaster not looking like it should...

    mustard algae...pool store no help

Welcome to TFP! If those are the pool store numbers, please order a good test kit from tftestkits.net. You'll need it to eliminate the algae from your pool. It is good to have a baseline CYA of 30 in your pool when shocking. It keeps you from losing your FC to the sun. As for vacuuming, you...

    .

Welcome to TFP! You aren't finished with the process. You know that you are finished with the SLAM process when your pool water looks sparkly and blue, your CC is 0.5 or less, and your pool holds to within 1 ppm of FC loss or less overnight. Here is how you get it done...

How to keep the algae at bay until I get a test kit

Welcome to TFP! If it were me, I would wait until I got the test kit. Without it, you really don't know what is going on. The amount of bleach that it would take to cause damage is very, very high. Remember that bleach is the same thing as your granules or tablets are, minus the stabilizers...

    Layer of Alagae

Keep SLAMing until your water is clear, the green is gone, your CC is 0.5 or less, and your water loses no more than 1 ppm of FC overnight. Brush lots to keep the algae suspended in the water and run your filter 24/7 until the process is complete.

    Black algae

Welcome to TFP! We don't recommend algaecides because, by and large, they aren't needed. A properly chlorinated pool doesn't get algae and doesn't need algaecide. If you have black algae in your pool, your pool service isn't cutting it. This is why we suggest taking care of it yourself using...

Algae prevention when pool owner is not able to keep up FC

Re: Algae prevention when pool owner is not able to keep up Phosphate removers will not help. Polyquat 60 can provide some protection. I agree with the SWCG idea.

A friend with a strange problem?

We need the following test results: FC, CC, CYA, pH, CYA, TA, and CH.

    Thank you experts!

Welcome to TFP! Looks much better. You may need to do a series of partial drains and refills until you get your CYA down. If you don't have a saltwater chlorine generator, then you want that CYA between 30 and 50.

    Algae Fighting

I'd say that 72 hours is enough, especially if you dumped it straight into the skimmer. That shock level of 14 ppm is perfect. :goodjob:

    Pool went green overnight?

You need to shock. With a CYA of 50, shocking is adding enough bleach to get you to 20 ppm FC. 10 is only halfway there. You are finished shocking when your water is clear, your CC is 0.5 or less, and your pool loses no more than 1 ppm of FC overnight.

Algae (i think) growing inside pool ladder steps

    Another Green Pool Problem...please help

Ok, as long as you do have a FAS-DPD and not the plain DPD test, you should be good. You won't damage your liner as long as your FC level is appropriate for the CYA level and the pump is on and the water is circulating when you add it. pool-school/chlorine_cya_chart_shock You could shock at...

    Another Green Pool Problem...please help

Welcome to TFP! You need to obtain a test kit that has a FAS-DPD chlorine test. That's why we recommend the test kits that we do...because they have them. Pool store testing is woefully inaccurate, even if it is computerized. Years of experience here points to this fact. Their testing is...

Black Spots on pool - is this Black Algae?

Hard to say. Do they feel slimy? Have you tried holding a chlorine tablet to the area involved to see if they fade with this treatment?
