Benefits to the Speedstir for the Tf-100

Welcome to TFP!! The tests were made before the advent of the Speed-Stir :-D I trust the unlighted tests more than the lighted ones. However, please keep in mind that you found a difference of +/- 1 drop - which is the accuracy of the test anyway 8-)

local pool places testing is useless.

Hey Filix  Hope all's going well, other than the cya testing! I'm not sure the water testing lab would be able to test for cya - it's something not found in well or home water - I'd call them and ask. Dave (TFTestkits) sells a controlled sample that you can use to see how well you are...

    Best place to buy reagents?

I try only to use TFTestkits! I know I can trust the freshness of the reagents, the shipping is wicked fast and if I have any trouble, I know! that Dave is an honorable man  Sometimes I need to pick up a kit from WallyWorld, or wherever (due to my assistant not knowing how to close a...

Deep end TA fine but shallow end TA very high

Welcome to TFP!! Are you testing near the return in the deep end and not near the return in the shallow? I'm thinking the acid from the pucks may be driving down your alk reading in the deep end (please, no one remind me that it would also effect the pH :P )

Opps with a jug of shock

Welcome to TFP!! Please don't sweat the little mistakes! In a month, you'll be a pro with maintaining and balancing your pool :-D There is a learning curve for caring for pools and no one is born knowing how to do it. 8-) Your 'mistake' is not going to harm the pool ( and might actually...

    water country amusement park

Welcome to TFP!! You seem to have 'Moxie' - your responses in this thread show me that you'll be a great member here  I built and serviced pools in Richmond for 6 years, if you need any help with your pool, just let me know :)

    Thanks TFP

Even the old dogs here learn something every day :-D I'm glad you joined us! :goodjob:

Benefits to the Speedstir for the Tf-100

When I'm doing the ch or alk test, I'll turn the SpeedStir off and back on when I'm getting close to the endpoint so I don't miss it.

    Taylor TA test

Welcome to TFP!! If you get red on the TA test without adding any R0008, your pH is below 4.5  Plug 4.5 into the pool calculator as your pH and add borax or soda ash accordingly.

Benefits to the Speedstir for the Tf-100

I've seen those and NEED to get one, I just wasn't sure it would do both the 25ml and the 10ml. As has been said - the Speed-Stir is a MUST! (if you can afford it and are ordering from Dave anyway :) )

    I NEVER have 0 CC...

While I fully agree with the above responses, do you brush or vacuum the 'low circulation' areas regularly? If the pool has dropped to ~ 0 fc at any time this season, algae might have taken hold, and once it does, a couple ppm chlorine isn't going to kill it in the 'low flow' spots

    water is nice and clear

Filix and I talked about that. IMO, the system is OK with the leak and will stay so for the season. If it suddenly get's worse we'll have to replace the bad line sooner :( (but we already have a plan for how to replumb the line 8-) )

From a local, repsected pool dealers webpage...

Thanks! Sure, they say that up to 200 is fine, but they're also the ones who sell the chems to 'fix' the problems 200 ppm cya can cause :hammer:

    buying R-0871 regagent

Re: speed and service I had Tuesday off so left the ordering of the 2 TF100XL kits to my boss. She didn't get the order in before 2:00, but, Meg still got them out that day :goodjob: :whoot:  They arrived yesterday! :-D I swear, you CAN NOT go wrong by using TFtestkits  8-)

my first results using the TF-100

If you've got that much cc, you need to shock the pool! :( Something is trying to grow and take hold.

How to take a sample for a pool store to test?

Welcome to TFP!! Please let's not forget taking the sample from a central area, at least a few feet from any suctions or returns - you want a true 'representative' sample of the pool water. If they give you the sample bottles and do the testing for free, take them 2 or 3 samples from different...

    buying R-0871 regagent

I won't buy my reagents nor test kits from any other source than http://www.tftestkits.net!!!!!!!!!!!! :hammer: I know the reagents are fresh (good) and can really trust my testing! [also, the shipping is as fast as Speedy Gonzalez  ] (Dave and Meg are THE BEST!!)

    Peroxide

I think they expect me to shock weekly, regardless as to the c.c. level (know nothings :hammer: ) and then neutralize the extra chlorine to get back down under 4 ppm.
  19. W

    Peroxide

Welcome to TFP!! I also read about the effect of peroxide on cl. The state of Maine requires it's use monthly on public pools, but doesn't say why  Thanks for pointing out the cl neutralizing effect of hydrogen peroxide

    PH and aeration

It raises it. It's my (limited) understanding that if you aerate the pool while at a low pH, the pH rises and the alkalinity falls - i.e. the TA 'gives of itself' to raise the pH. There are folks here who can explain exactly what happens but I'm not one of them :)

useing my new test kit questions

Hey Filix! Don't sweat the borates at this point, as you just started using the 20 mule team Borax, you probably don't have enough in the water to register anyway. TFTestkits has the borate test strips, if you decide to get the SpeedStir just have Dave toss a bottle of borate strips in the box...

    TF100 Alkalinity test question

Welcome to TFP!! As James and Richard pointed out, keep swirling while adding the drops and don't stop counting drops until one more drop doesn't change the color. (this is where the Speed Stir really pays for itself 8-) )

Help - what's going on with my water??

Jan, have you brushed all the interior surfaces of the skimmer, including the mouth, neck and weir? The pink might be hiding there (out of sight) and also in the light niches. Any pipes or areas without good water interchange can harbor bio-nasties! If you have a water feature you rarely use...

    noob question...

Welcome to TFP, Mags!! You'll never regret ordering from TFTestkits :!: I did the same thing you're going to do (get the FAS-DPD to make my 2005K = to a 2006K), the price was great and I had it 2 days after I ordered it 8-)

Help - what's going on with my water??

Jan, are you sure the cya is 30? It seems like the sunlight is burning up your chlorine :? Can you describe the stink? If it's like rotten eggs, there's a chance sulfur has somehow entered the water. (just a WAG on my part that it might be sulfur)

Help - what's going on with my water??

Hey Jan  I betcha it's Mr. (or Ms.) Pink again, trying to take hold  Do as Dave (Bama) says and then be sure to keep the minimum FC all summer :hammer: Knock this mold (slime) out and be sure to keep it out! Then sit back and enjoy a trouble free pool in the nutmeg state
