    Punked the Pool Store

I am sure. The pool store that I still sometimes go to for some last minute stuff had one guy that knew how to use a K2006. If he was out it was shooting in the dark with strips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Punked the Pool Store

Make sure you get LOTS of stabilizer in there so that you need LOTS of pucks to keep it from getting green. And then we can tell you it's phosphates so that you "need" phosphate remover. Still green, must not be just that then, add some algae killer, now you need some metal out. Now you should...

Noob, High CYA with TF-100 test kit

If you get off of the tabs like Texas said above you will slowly over time lower your cya with partial drain/splash out and refills. A couple extra long backwashes and some good cannonballs and it will come down over time. I have read of a chemical that claims to remove cya from the water. I...

    Need help opening pool

For the love of all things good stay out of the pool stores in central Illinois. We live in Peoria and used to get sold floc and phosphate remover by the gallon because of "the farm fields next to the house and all of the chemicals that they add to the pool" It is all rubbish hogwash and not...

Just got Taylor-2006 Test Kit. Want to verify what I should add.

I have a neighbor that is a self proclaimed expert. Maybe I can send him your way??? Pool looks great and love the rust filters. I have a vinyl liner pool and high CH, the only side effect seems to be frequent cleaning of the SWG cell. But since yours is low, I would leave it right there...

    High CYA in new Pool

liquid chlorine Welcome to the forum. Many smarter than I will come along and give lots of great info. At first glance your CYA is 100, not 100%. Which for a non SWG pool is very high. Should be less than half that. Likely all of that cya has been introduced via the pucks. Get rid of the...

Added CYA to clear light green pool - does it take a full week to turn blue?

When you did your CH test did it fade to blue as instructed, or purple? Mine was fading to purple (Taylor K2006 as well) and from what I found on the Google machine, that was due to metals. That does not really tell you the concentration of metals from what I know. There are test strips, but as...

    Aeration

About $7 of pvc pipe and a drill bit. Screws right into the return fitting. I did it initially to cool the water. Unintended consequence was the Ph rise which, with a SWG pool, is bad enough. But my pool was 95 degrees and almost unswimmable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Taylor Salt Test vs IC 40 SWG indicator

I use the Taylor test to make sure I am in the ballpark. Bottom line is my cell says to be at 3200 and that is where I try to keep it on the cells readout. The cells are programmed to run at maximum efficiency at a certain salt concentration. If your cell is happy and within range I say all...

    Acid - Dry or Liquid?

Liquid. It can be annoying if they wind is blowing the wrong direction. I always take note of the wind direction nod stand upwind of the pour. I usually pour into a glass jar (for measurement purposes) and then to the pool. I do a 1 quart weekly dose as part of a system to keep my ph under...

Has anyone on here actually worked at a pool store?

I see why the PB wants you to have monthly readings. I have no idea why he requires it to be from a place that is not accurate (most all pool stores are not). I had to twist someone at my pool stores arm to even do anything but a 7 way test strip, so I guess you may be lucky from that point...

    Idea to reduce calcium hardness

I have the same issue with CH. And I also have SWG pool. I actually get little white flakes on the bottom of the pool that tend to accumulate in the corners. This just started to get bad last year. I have the wife vacuum to waste, I backwash and rinse often (maybe more often than necessary) and...

Newb here am I crazy or should I bite the bullet

See how long it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket. Divide that time into 60 (seconds) and multiply that number times 5. So if it takes 20 seconds to fill a 5 gallon bucket, that is 15 gallons per minute. I don't think that you have to do it all at once. Do a chunk now and a little over time...

Newb here am I crazy or should I bite the bullet

This^^. If you have a salt water pool you will only have to half your cya. If non SWG pool I would drain off close to 3/4 and start there. Pool math will let you know what exact % you need to replace. Also check your fill water ch level. If you refill with water with similarly hard water it will...

    Blah!

I am sure he means in the sight glass or basket strainer. I have done that with stabilizer in the skimmer basket and felt the same way. And had to wait to backwash ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Impact of Salt Water Chlorinator on Oklahoma Flagstone

I would consider a Stenner pump and liquid chlorine as opposed to the SWG. It will give you fits with that flagstone. The pump will lower your efforts and save you from constantly sealing your pool deck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Supplementing SWG...questions

I had a similar issue last year. No matter what I did to my pool I could not keep my FC above 4. Even running 100% 24/7. Do you have a sand filter? If so eh. Was the last time it was deep cleaned? I replaced the 3 year old sand in mine and my Numbers have been much better ever since. And...

Testing result I do not understand....

Looks like pentair changed that with the new ones. We had an older version and it was a breeze if you knew your salt level and how to do it. That sucks. And yes, some water would come from main drains and some from skimmer, but 50% rainwater and 50% 3200ppm saltwater will drag the number down...

Testing result I do not understand....

I feel your pain on the SWG having to be happy. They have a pretty large range that they will operate in and are by and large not that accurate. I would pick up that Taylor kit and then you should be able to recalibrate your cell based on that reading. That is what I did with my compupool and it...

Testing result I do not understand....

The cya is operator error. The other tests results seem off as well. That would take a significant water change/dilution to lower salt by 650ppm. According to pool math that is a 20% water change. How are you testing salt? Strips or Taylor K1766? The 1766 that I use is pretty much impossible...

    Supplementing SWG...questions

My CH runs 450 on a regular basis. I can never get the test "right" either. Maybe I am blue/purple colorblind?? CYA at 80 and I keep my FC in the 9-10 range. I run my pump 24/7 from open in May or June to close in September. And run my SWG at 70-80% depending on temp and use. I also have an...

    PH IS always rising

Ditto^^^^^^^ I have to add 1.75 quarts every Saturday when I do my full test. I have a compupool SWG that has a clearish blue plastic case. And you can see all of the "bubbles" in the unit as the water runs thru. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Balancing pH and TA

My tub is about the same size. Stand alone tub and a bigger pita than my 18,000 pool to keep right, my last one was like that and the next one will be like that I am sure. We use Nature 2 ( which everyone here will tell you is the spawn of the devil) and we have the opposite problem with ph and...

    K2006 results and pump question.

As you can see by my signature we have an 18,000 gallon IG SWG pool. Vinyl liner. My readings stay pretty steady at the following numbers. FC 10.2 CC .2 PH 7.5 TA 140 CH 450 CYA 80 Phosphates 0 Salt 3400 Here are my questions on the results. 1.) My TA at 140, should I try to bring that...

If I needed to raise chlorine in a SWG pool....

    Buyer beware on bleach 8/15/2014

All bleach is somewhat "germicidal" by nature. It kills germs. The wife uses the splashless stuff in the clothes washer. Good for there, but not the pool, as already mentioned.
