how many pucks to increase cya from 20 to 40-50

I still have an inline chlorinator hooked up even though I've been using a Stenner Pump solely. Opened the pool this season over two months ago and cya was around 50. Slow and normal decline over the past two months to roughly 20. I unplugged the stenner and put 6, 3" pucks in the chlorinator...

Pleading for help after AA treatment

I have been battling with iron stains in my pool since opening in mid April and have learned a vast amount of knowledge from this site. The one thing I could say for certain in regards to my situation and perhaps it's the same with yours is that when the pH reaches 7.6 I begin to see early signs...

    Cleaning the FAS-DPD scoop

I don't see the mistake? I needed to add algaecide because I had to bring FC to zero for 2 days to treat with ascorbic acid. My CYA is at 40 right now

    Cleaning the FAS-DPD scoop

Yes I added algaecide. No heater. Roughly 3 weeks ago when I was starting the ascorbic acid treatment I added 16oz of kemtek 60% Yes I rinse the vials/tube several times after each use. I tried to clean with bleach but it didn't work. I didn't actually get in there with a cue tip but I try again.

    Cleaning the FAS-DPD scoop

While we are on while we are on the topic of discoloration, I noticed that my one month old Taylor CYA vile has a purple ring at the bottom. What's the cause of that?

    My ascorbic acid adventure

Water test this morning after adding more sequestrant yesterday and ciruclating the water overnight; FC 0 PH 7.0 TA 120 CH 150 CYA 50 Added 30oz soda ash after this test and the ph is 7.2. I just read that borax is probably better for my situation since it doesnt raise TA as much as soda ash...

    My ascorbic acid adventure

I just started to notice some of the staining re-appearing on the liner. Confirmed it was iron again with a few vitamin C pills. I’ve been testing the water everyday (FC and PH) and everything else every 4 or 5 days. Since the ascorbic acid treatment in early May, the PH was holding at 7.2 for...

After a hefty water exchange and adding 1/2 gallon 10% bleach during fill up last night, heres the new test results. FC 5 CC 0 PH 7.2 (took 1 drop to = 7.4) TA 130 CH 170 CYA 45 (middle of 40 and 50 on tube) How should I proceed? PH is on the low side but I read that I should keep the PH low...

I did order from amazon but it was sent by UPS and there was a problem with shipping. Nevertheless, the kit came today. Since the store test yesterday and like mknauss suggested, I only added 1 gallon 10% bleach yesterday. Heres the taylor kit results FC 5 CC .2 TC 5.2 PH 7.0 TA 140 CH 220 CYA...

    water test results

Ok fair enough. I'm not really sure about the copper thing either. I know my last test was a week ago before I did the ascorbic acid treatment. Is it possible that maybe some copper was put into suspension and now showing up on a test? I'm not sure if ascrobic acid does anything to coppe...

    water test results

Ok I know this site hates when pool stores do water tests for you and it is strongly encouraged to buy a proper home kit and do it yourself. I completely understand that. However, the lamotte kit seems like a high-quality piece of Machinery that has a heavy price tag on it. If the pool store is...

No. I dont think that particular type of algeacide I used has cooper either. The water test from the same store prior to the ascrobic acid treatment showed copper at zero. I havent introduced anything into the pool other that what I have listed in the original post

Ive been waiting a week for my taylor kit (shipping problems :mad:) to get here and it should be here in a few days. Ive been using a regular kit from last year and I went to the pool store today to have them check. I know they use the LaMotte waterlink spin touch. I treated the pool with 4...

    My ascorbic acid adventure

Well my FC was over 8 and I don't know how much ascorbic acid was needed to drop it to zero. But seeing how 5lbs of chlorine neutralizer was only 13.99, it was probably the right choice since ascorbic acid was 19$ for 2.2lbs. I didnt test the fill water but I did take a pool water sample before...

    My ascorbic acid adventure

Opened the pool 2 weeks ago and noticed that the liner had a lot of yellow staining on many different areas. Confirmed with vitiamin C that the stains were from iron. vitamin C in sock test Here is the order in which I proceeded Saturday 5/4/19 1)Dropped FC to almost zero with a neutralizer...

    4 month old liquid chlorine

Seeing as how I just did an abscorbic acid treatment (added 4lbs of abscorbic acid to my 22000 gallon pool) and I lowered the FC to zero with a netrulizer, it took 3 gallons of the HDX 10% 4 month old bleach to bring the FC to 3ppm Id say its just fine

    4 month old liquid chlorine

All the boxes were on the third tier of a 4 tier shelf (if your familiar with how home depot is setup). I suppose the items on the 4th shelf would block direct sunlight. They store the chlorine in the garden center which has a clear roof

    4 month old liquid chlorine

Trying to learn TFP method of using bleach and figured now is the best time to convert from pucks since I lowered the FC to zero while I treat the liner with ascorbic acid. The CYA was close to 100 so I drained the pool down to roughly 1 foot above the shallow end to play it safe. In the...
