How often do you test your water?

Bryan, you have the K-2006C. You have 2 oz reagents. That will last you all of this swim season, over the fall and winter season. Keep in mind to store your test kit in the house, not in a shed or garage. I, too, have the K-2006C. FC, pH and TA will definitely run out first. You can get...

Cya on Amazon (Clorox 4lbs for $16)

Sorry folks, I was way too quick to post. Lesson learned, check link before posting it and before running out the door to go to a picnic. It was a beautiful day here in Las Vegas. Allen saw that Puritech is out of stock at Amazon. So what I thought I was linking to must have been an Amazon...

Cya on Amazon (Clorox 4lbs for $16)

I shop on Amazon, however, I buy in bulk knowing that keeping stabilizer in a dry environment it doesn’t go bad. I get the Puritech 20lbs bag from Amazon. I measure out 4 lbs and have more for next time. https://a.co/d/7J07kZV

New Pool owner posting test results.

Welcome PoolAdmiral, I looked at your other posts. You have been on the site for a while, now. You've read the TFP practices that free chlorine must be in line with the chart, see above post for the chart. Your target range for your CYA 40 is 5 - 7 ppm. You do not want algae and you are...

Free chlorine vs CYA vs shock

Surprisingly, Taylor has an authorized reseller link on their site that I used to find a local pool store here in the Las Vegas area that sells Taylor kits and reagents. Pool & Spa Dealer Locator

Free chlorine vs CYA vs shock

Pool stores test your water for free then sell you expensive products to solve your so called water problems. So you spend $$$.$$ on potions and the algae doesn't go away. The next week or month same thing. Rinse and repeat. Their business model is to sell you stuff based upon inaccurate...

    Testing a cold water sample

    Testing a cold water sample

What works really well for testing CYA from a pool with cold water is: Add pool water to the first line in the CYA sample bottle and cap it. Then put the capped CYA sample bottle into your pocket. You'll feel that it is cold. By the time you have completed all of the other tests the CYA...

    pH result guessing game

You are correct and there is no argument with that statement. I won’t know if it’s in the 7s unless I use the pH drop test. My pool is my hobby, not my job. If I’ve gotten lazy and the pH test shows 8ish, I want to know (I am compulsive) is it 8.0 or above. One drop of R-0005 and I can see...

    pH result guessing game

+1 However, for my pool, it has always been .2 lower. This method works well for me to really tell the difference. My 8.0 reading with R-0004 shows 7.8 when I add a drop of R-0005. I can successfully do this up the scale with the K-2006C pH comparator.

    Conflicting ideal CH ranges

You got that right about the southwest. If we got 50+ inches of rain a year we’d fill Lake Mead back up. If we did get rain (what’s that?) I wouldn’t worry about evaporation and topping up my pool. Just to keep CH down around 350 with our hard water, I had to tap into my whole house water...

    Reagent drop size

I buy the Taylor fas-dpd titrating reagent in the 16 oz size bottle. I then fill my 2 oz fas-dpd reagent bottle and test from that. However, the drop size seems to change when the 2 oz bottle gets low. When I fill it back up the drops are back in line to what I expect. For me, is it the...

    FILL WATER???

In the off-season, late Oct till May 1st or so, my pool water TA creeps up closer to the fill water TA 140. During the swim season, managing pH in the 7s the TA drops to 90 - 100. Keeping CSI -0.3 to +0.1 keeps the scale off the Pentair IC60 plates. My suggestion would be to manage your pH...

    Testing Inconstancies

Per your PoolMath Logs, TA 90 is just fine. Fortunately, you've turned on CSI. With your high CH 575, you will need to stay on top of your pH. Managing pH in the 7.4 - 7.6 range is way better than up around ph 8. When pH gets to 7.8 knock it down to 7.4. Play around with the CSI values on...

CYA questions you haven't seen before

Food scale, skimmer sock from Amazon, Puritech 100% CYA from Amazon (buy in bulk), paper plate bended/folded into funnel (it fits as deep as I want into the skimmer sock), red solo cup to scoop the CYA into paper plate funnel which is in the skimmer sock, which is on the scale. Drop it into the...

    Cloudy water

Happy Anniversary (join date)... Using 4 lbs 65% Cal-Hypo raises your FC in a 70k pool 4.4 ppm. It also raises CH by 3.1 ppm. In a month your CH would be 93, when using Cal-Hypo everyday. Is your LaMotte accurately reporting your CH level? Using 3 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine raises you...

    Math problem

This is the brainiacs thread. I was lost after the first post. TFP methodologies are to use the 10 mL sample size. To calculate the CH, we have to use the 25 mL sample size. I understand that. This math thread, not so much.

    Algae and cloudy water

Honestly, you have two options. One, SLAM. Add enough chlorine every 2 hours, if possible, to maintain SLAM level. Brush, vacum and backwash when when sand filter pressure goes up. Or second option, replace lots of water, if you are not on a well. Pool store potions will not solve this...

    Smart Pool Monitors

Each pool owner starts the test timing clock differently. If I am sitting on the couch and decide it’s time to test the pool water. I have to get the test kit out of the laundry room, get a pool water sample, test FC and pH, rinse out the vials put them back in the kit and put the kit back in...

Daily fc loss and how much will i need to add?

PoolGate gave you the quick response. Yes you have to replenish but how are you testing? What is your CYA level? Pool store or guess strips don’t count. I test regularly with a Taylor K-2006C. My CYA = 70 and I set my SWG to add 3.7 ppm FC. In our Las Vegas environment each pool is...

    Amount of liquid Chlorine

For your 10k gallon pool, it would be 64 oz = 5 ppm
  25. an1vrsy

    Amount of liquid Chlorine

We use imperial measurements rather than metric. Wouldn’t it be easier to mark 3 lines on a 1 gallon jug? 64 oz is half a jug, 32 oz is 1/4 jug. 32 oz of 10% chlorine adds 2.5 ppm free chlorine to your pool. With UV from the sun, you could add half a jug, 64 oz every day. You’d be adding 5...

Time of day to add chemicals

It is really about consistency with a manually dosed chlorine pool. Test your pool before your daily additions. This will yield a pattern that gives you insight on your pool. Before I got a SWG, I added chlorine every evening after testing. To ensure what I added the day before was still...

    Stabilizing PH

In our environment, we deal with high TA with our fill water and worse high evaporation So we’re adding water all the time. Do you have a whole house water softener system? Can you get it plumbed to your auto fill for the pool? Do you have the ability with your pool equipment to turn off the...

Did I mess up - CYA

There are times when my CYA degrades down to 60. I'll add to get to CYA 70 and sometimes I overshoot at bit. Since TFP always rounds up, I treat it as CYA 80. It doesn't really matter in that I always hover around FC 10 or so. Your CYA 90 will degrade, however, keep an eye on running FC hot...
