Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Well the drops just arrived. I probably jinxing myself, but I think we are good for now. The last time I tested on Friday (around noon), we were at 12 or 13 (ran out right as it was turning clear). We used the regular chlorine test right away to get a baseline color and it was dark yellow. We...

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Only took me an hour, but I figured out how to post a picture :-).

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Not sure how much acid my husband was adding bc we only handled the pool for a short time before this happened. He said it didn't seem like an unusual amount (whatever that means), but he was testing and adjusting daily. Here is a picture. Pretty much looks the same as it always has (good to us)...

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

We both did the CYA test and agreed it is 60, so we adjusted our target from 28 to 24, but would aim for 26 when adjusting levels. Maybe we should target 28 and not let fall below 24? It would fall below 24 periodically, but not for long and not very far. We assume our pH is sky high right now...

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Also, do we need to be concerned with salt rising due to so much chlorine addition? We are at 4050 (recommended level is 3600).

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Well, combined chlorine was zero this morning, but we went from 17.5 to 14.5 (couldn't adjust last night b/c we wouldn't have been able to test this morning) and are now out of drops again and won't be able to test until Monday (we can do the standard chlorine test, just not the one that goes...

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Running out of drops again (2 oz bottle on its way), so I only tested once during the day and tried to bring it up to about 28. Tested tonight and it is 17.5. I am sure hoping and praying it is 17 tomorrow morning with no CCs. If not, my husband wants to call someone in (who, I have no idea). So...

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Don't know if it was backwashing the filter, uncapping the nasty umbrella holder or just timing, but we FINALLY passed the chlorine overnight test!!! However, CC was 1 this morning :-(. Does that mean we keep SLAMming?

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Looked at skimmers and every inch of pool surface yesterday and saw nothing, but didn't inspect the lights. I'll put on goggles and do so a bit later. We do have an umbrella holder on our shelf that has a cap on it, so I just removed the cap. I can't really see down there, but I do know they...

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Day 7 and still failing the overnight test. Can anything other than algae cause this? I know this is probably crazy, but the African/Saharan dust has been present in Texas the last few weeks and allergy sufferers are dying. I'm guessing there is no way that is what is causing my overnight test...

Day 5 of SLAM - CC fluctuating from 0 back up- why? Losing steam here....

Hello everyone - Our pool was just filled over a month ago. Pool company did crappy job of maintaining the pool during the chlorine phase (FC dropped to 0 several times and pH above 8). We took over when they added salt and were able to keep the numbers good, but were running our SWG (IC40) at...

Sudden FC drop and CC spike; can installing pool sweep cause this?

Do you need higher levels of CYA to maintain higher levels of FC? We think our CYA is 60 or 70 (hard to tell when the black dot disappears), but are using the target shock level of 28 (the level for 70) instead of 24 (the level for 60). Should that make any difference in our overnight test?

Sudden FC drop and CC spike; can installing pool sweep cause this?

Thanks, Jim. Last night it went from 28 to 23, but the CC is back down to zero, so I guess that is good news. The water has always looked great, so we were very surprised when we had 0 chlorine suddenly. Since we are new to this, we don't know our pool yet... Guess we will continue to SLAM.

Sudden FC drop and CC spike; can installing pool sweep cause this?

Hi there! New in-ground pool in and running ~1 month. We had 1 month of a pool company service included with our build. Turns out they were only coming once a week and by the time we got our TF-100 and realized what was going on, the pool had been at 0 FC and +8 ph several times between their...
