    Walmart went clorox salt

Why don't you go to Lowes, or Home Depot and get water softener salt? It is usually cheaper than pool salt, and from what I've been reading over the past couple of years, a better quality.

    Chlorine Prices 2024

They are in Gadsden, AL. They are used to the local pressure washing services order one barrel at a time. They will deliver locally for free, I USED to work in the same city they are located, and get them to deliver it to my workplace. I live 50 miles away, and will have to go pick it up this...

    Chlorine Prices 2024

I have a barrel buried in the ground that feeds my Stenner to mitigate the degradation as much as I can. I go through a barrel every year with a bit to spare.

    Chlorine Prices 2024

Well, I just got off the phone with my chemical supply house. It seems that the 55 gallon drum of 12.5% chlorine that I get every year has gone up in price once again. (I'm not really surprised.) This year it is running at $248 after tax. I remember (not too long ago) it cost me $150.

Can I break up solidified R0870 powder?

When that happens to me, I use the tip of my pocket knife, or a stainless deck screw to scrape it back into powder. As long the powder is white, it is good to use.

Why is CYA target different for swg and manually dosed pools?

I have found with my setup, (Stenner dosing the pool twice a day), that My FC usage is the best with a CYA of 60. At 6pm I am right where I need to be for the next dosing, scheduled for 6:15-6:40. But as stated by Oly, each pool is a bit different.

    muriatic acid

I have literally added that much to my pool while I was in it. It gets diluted fast by the water volume.

Got Taylor 2006C test kit and am vowing off test strips forever

BTW... Sodium Hypochlorite is just the industry name for bleach. I buy 55 gallons of it a year for my pool. :)

    TA and PH

Wait for your PH to top 8 then knock it down to 7.4. Your TA will take care of itself in the end.

Where does my CYA go in the winter

I see that you are in Toronto, what is your water temperature? I have found that the CYA test shows low levels if the water temp is below 70f.

    Muriatic acid questions

Lowes DOES have the acid you are looking for... it is out in the pool section and contains 2X 1 gallon jugs in the box. Myself and the paint tech at Lowes went nuts looking for the acid that they were showing in stock. That is where we found it.

What more can make pH go up

@Ullebov what is the ph of your fill water? (tap water) Some places have a higher alkalinity tap water than others.

    CYA Level for Summer

I run mine at 60 for just that reason. Every pool seems to have a sweet spot for where it likes it to be.

    Balancing after renovation

so it is not ammonia... you are struggling with an inability to hold chlorine, and High ph, not Low ph. I don't know what concrete would have in it that would contribute to this.
  16. RonsPlc

    Balancing after renovation

Well, ammonia is on the other side of the Acid - Base Scale, and is considered a base. Any Base will cancel out an Acid , and CYA is Acidic so Ammonia should cancel it out. I am going to call in a person that would know better than me about all this... Calling @JoyfulNoise .
  17. RonsPlc

    Balancing after renovation

that is odd.... ammonia will usually zero out CYA as well.

    First rebalance test

how did you get your water temperature up to 70? I am in Alabama, and my pool temp is barely above 60 right now, so I NEED to know your secret! :)

    Balancing after renovation

It sounds to me like your water is holding ammonia, it will test high ph, and eat chlorine like crazy until it is neutralized. Is your CYA still testing at 30? Test for chlorine, add bleach to slam level according to pool math. Mix well, and test again in 1/2 hour ... add bleach again until it...

Stabilizer free chlorine pucks or tablets for skimmer OR good liquid chlorine dispersion method

I second the Stenner. It is the 2nd best thing I have done for my pool. (The best was finding THIS site!)

How to help people without sounding like a know-it-all??

My Sister-In-Law was over last year (right after I opened the pool. She had just torn hers down because she was tired of fighting with it. (She had a service coming out to it)) She warned me that it was GOING to turn green, that there was nothing I could do about it. Then I informed her that I...

What is the recommended CYA value for normal use?

I run a stenner pump for my chlorine, in the heat of summer with fresh bleach (12.5%) the pump runs for a total of 1/2 hr per day. The pump is rated at 10gal/day. (24hr run time) I buy 55 gallons at a time. (once per year)

What is the recommended CYA value for normal use?

I'm a bit further south than you are, and I find 50 to be my sweet spot.

    55 gallon drums of chlorine

Keep in mind that moving a full 55gal drum into the basement is not going to be easy. A full drum weighs almost 500 lbs.

    55 gallon drums of chlorine

I get one every year from my local chemical supply warehouse. They usually cost me $150 delivered , but I haven't called yet this year. The barrel I have buried in the ground is still testing good enough to use until it runs out.

    CYA Issue - Ammonia?

Bring it up to 10ppm according to poolmath then test 1/2 hr later. If you test at 0FC then you might have an ammonia issue.

    CYA Issue - Ammonia?

The general rule is ... if you are showing ANY FC, you don't have an ammonia issue. Ammonia eats FC, and you will test at 0.
