I live in Texas as well, and I do have to check my CYA once a month during the summer because it will drop. IIRC I had to add 2lb of CYA over the summer to keep it at 50.

What i notice, if you have low FC the solution only turns pink (4 drops to turn clear = 2ppm FC). Once you get more FC you will see it turn a bright red.
