    Advice on Comparing

It depends on why you want a hot tub, and how you plan to use it, I am perfectly happy with my 19 year old Hot Spring Jetsetter that I bought used a few years ago, it does almost everything the current Jetsetter does (has the original style moto-massage, not the DX), just lacks the bells and...

    Used Calspas Hot Tub

Moving it will depend on how accessible it is where it is and where you want it to go, typically this seems to cost a few hundred dollars.

    Changing water in Spa?

Personally I change the water in my hot tub about 3 times per year, and use Ahh-Some jetted tub cleaner with each water change. Ike p.s. there are a number of Ahh-Some products now, so don't confuse jetted tub cleaner with filter cartridge cleaner, etc.

Total hardness in spa (What is that)

Total hardness is the combination of calcium hardness and magnesium hardness, we really only care about Calcium hardness most of the time. This is part of the problem with using test strips vs a quality drop based test kit (many of the cheaper drop based test kits also only test for total...

In Oklahoma city I suspect it will get cold enough that you need to do some active freeze protection at least a few days per year most years.

how to buy ozone cartridge replacement?

Ozone does little or nothing to allow you to run lower bromine levels, what it primarily does is help oxidize bather waste faster so you consume less bromine in total. In other words it allows you to use less bromine / it also helps reactivate your bromine, but does not allow you to run at a...

how to buy ozone cartridge replacement?

Our general stance is that Ozone or UV systems are not needed in typical outdoor residential pools and are a waste of money, our general advice to those that have already invested in them is to disconnect them when it comes time to replace components.

    Can't get cc down

MPS shows as CC on the common chlorine tests, Taylor makes a special MPS elimination test, but it is expensive (around $50 I think) this is part of why MPS is not part of the TFP method

Hot Spring Spas - Ace Salt electrode vs Deuce

It depends I think Hot Spring tubs come with a 5 year warranty to the original owner, if so you may want to weigh the chances that they may invalidate the warranty vs cell cost this time around.

Down converting from 240 to 120V Marquis Leisure tub from about 2002

It is somewhat normal on small tubs, in fact some cheaper tubs don't even have heating elements they just recycle waste heat from the pumps to heat the water, which is not the most economical option.

Down converting from 240 to 120V Marquis Leisure tub from about 2002

Let me say the opposite on the 120 vs 240 VAC at least when it comes to my Hot Spring Jetsetter. I bought this tub used 2 or 3 years ago, it is a 1998 model, however it is in great shape for its age, and likely spent its entire life indoors, as well as being disconnected and in storage for a...

Down converting from 240 to 120V Marquis Leisure tub from about 2002

Some expensive clamp meters work on DC, but most don't, I have not priced them lately though. I have a Fluke 337A clamp meter which does read DC

Down converting from 240 to 120V Marquis Leisure tub from about 2002

When using a clamp meter it is important to only have a single conductor running through it if you have an entire 2 wire cord going through they cancel each other out.

Down converting from 240 to 120V Marquis Leisure tub from about 2002

If you have an AC clamp meter you can confirm that the heater is drawing the right number of amps and therefore heating. Even a cheap clamp meter would work since you don't need a great deal of precision, I assume that your heater is 4000 watts at 240V or 1000 watt at 120V and therefore...

Down converting from 240 to 120V Marquis Leisure tub from about 2002

A few questions, first where is Lompoc (please edit your location to include state, territory or country) I ask because our culprit may be different if you are in Arizona vs northern Canada. My second question given the age of the tub is what sort of condition is the cover in, waterlogged...

Sundance Spa Circ Pump Shutting Down While Heater Is Going

In the case of my tub the flow problem was in the pump itself, pump ran, did not make extra noise, just only had a fraction of the flow it should have put out.

Sundance Spa Circ Pump Shutting Down While Heater Is Going

I can't help you on this specific model, but it sounds like it is time for a new circulation pump, I had something similar happen when I first bought my Hot Spring tub (used tub), as it turned out the circulation pump was only running at about half speed.

What's the best product, price vs. attributes, for testing spa chemistry?

I would certainly consider trying the above link and ditching guess strips for a good drop based test kit before switching to bromine. Much of the time when people think they are having a chlorine issue, they are really having a poorly balanced chemistry issue.

    Pool Store Chemicals & Warranty

Ok, let me ask this, is there a printed list of ranges required for the warranty by the manufacturer? and are you outside of one of those ranges even if there is a sanity issue on that range? If there is a sanity issue on that range such as alkalinity and pH stability, you may want to call the...

    Hot tub won't heat

I think 1997 was a transitional year for Watkins, if so I think you have the IQ-2000 control board, but you don't have the digital display of the style that was used for the next 11 or 12 years. If so are you getting voltage to the heater screw terminals when the tub is calling for heat? If...

    SWG - bromine vs chlorine

As you can see it can be a complex issue, personally I opted to use a drop in SWG (Saltron Mini), When I refill my tub I start off initially filling with pool water as it is already balanced and has CYA in it, then just add salt (about 7 pounds in my case with a small hot tub) and let the SWG...

    Still confused on bromine

Ah, you generally don't add bromine to maintain it, unlike Chlorine which is a gas at room temperature, Bromine is a liquid at room temperature, so you only need to reactivate the bromine once it combines with organic compounds to form bromide as it never leaves the pool water without water...

SOLVED: Hot Tub Green Water Color Issue After Clean Fill - Fixed with Ahh-Some!

Re: Hot Tub Green Water Color Issue After Clean Fill - Help! I am not sure from your description, but I suspect you have metals in your fill water, most likely iron is involved, possibly also copper, the iron will make the water turn yellow (which can look green if the shell of the tub is...

    Still confused on bromine

Just a follow up to the above message, the only way to really get rid of bromine is through water replacement, so if you want to switch to the dichlor then bleach method you will need to drain and refill your spa. In general it is suggested to drain and refill 3 or so times per year anyway.

    Foamy hot tub?

Foaming hot tub water is often due to detergents left in bathing suits from doing laundry, it could also have to do with your water chemistry, but we would need a full set of test results to make a guess on that. We do not use any detergent when washing bathing suits that will be used in the...

General Spa Question (not water chemistry related)

You will find a lot of variation from model to model, and even year to year on these air induction systems, some have check valves to prevent backflow of water should jets be restricted (blocked), some have hartford loops, etc..

    Should I buy?

It may be a deal, if they stand behind their repair, most of the time a shell crack is the one thing that can't be economically repaired on a hot tub. Personally I would try to talk them down more on the price as this discounted price is likely near dealer cost, keep in mind hot tubs depreciate...
