Can somone recommend a good ABG cover that lasts.

I spent the last 2 winters with just my leaf net on. No issues - some small debris fell through but the robot picked that up in the spring at opening. We usually have brutal winters, 30 mins from Canadian border on MN/ND border up here. We have maple trees, oaks and pine trees all surrounding...

Summer found the Great North - Swimmers in my pool!

I came home early today not feeling well and lo and behold, my son and nephew (19 and 30) had a barbeque and family swim time going for the first time this year. We just haven't had summer up here yet, even though Fargo has been in the 80s several times, just up the Interstate here we have...

FINALLY! I opened my dang pool today!

Wow, I heard it got dicey down there. We had wind, rain AND sun at the same time this morning. go figure. Still windy, but at least the sun is out so the solar panels can do their thing.

FINALLY! I opened my dang pool today!

Chad, are you taking advantage of the sunshine??? Yep, that really bright, shiney, warm thing is not just another rumor - it was for real today. It was beautiful today and I took a day off to finish yard/pool/etc for our son's graduation next week and smiled as I noted the pool temp go up 11...

FINALLY! I opened my dang pool today!

Yay for you guys. Sounds like things went off without a hitch. Doesnt it feel great to get going? Our RRV area weather looks good for the next few days so the water should start warming nicely.

Fickle Mother Nature - maybe opening pool by June?

Hope it's hot. Tired of this trash from the weather - last Friday before noon we had SNOW falling. The next day 65. Go figure. Looks to be nice all week in the 70s. Just running that pump to keep it going through the solar panels from 9am-9pm daily now, solar cover on to keep the heat in, PR...

Fickle Mother Nature - maybe opening pool by June?

Yay, wr got beautiful weather all weekend so really started working on pool. Solar cover was gross, tree drop caused green stuff to start in pool. Cleaned out solids, began filling and top off, started up trusty Pool Rover, dumped in 3gal chlorine, 2# trichlor, metal myte, 1.5# of cya in sock...

Fickle Mother Nature - maybe opening pool by June?

I decided to bite the bullet and take the winter cover off. The ice chunk was small and moving it around, it melted. There is some minimal Crud floating so got the Pool Rover doing his thing to clean the bottom and will probably work on topping off in the next days. Yahoo.

Fickle Mother Nature - maybe opening pool by June?

I heard you all have some drought issues. Funny, it never stops up here and you can't get enough down there. No balance at all is there.

Fickle Mother Nature - maybe opening pool by June?

I am green with envy at all the people opening and enjoying. No lie, we had 65 degrees durng the day then 4" of snow less than a week ago. While it is gone now, the rain doesn't stop and the nights are darned cool. Last year at this time, we were just finishing our liner replacement project...

Metal In My Water - I'm Getting Desperate

We had to have used at least 1/2 qt or more of that Iron Myte, about 6oz at a time between backwashing. We dished out our pool quite a bit more this time so I'm guessing a between 15k-15.5k gallons?

Metal In My Water - I'm Getting Desperate

Having metals in your water IS frustrating but it just takes a lot of "POP" (Pool Owners Patience) and I'm here to tell you it really can be done but it is a process that takes repetition and work - We have well water and lots of metal in our water. So we have issues when we have to top off OR...

Metal In My Water - I'm Getting Desperate

Actually 7.4 is about perfect, at 7.7 I would be watching very closely since it's on the high side - I would be thinking about dropping it down just for comfort - I always tend to run mine 7.2-7.4 You will need to post a full set of your numbers here so someone can help you figure out what is...

CYA 0 every spring opening. Just a FYI. No friends from BBB

We only have control over our own pools. I provide the info to others and let them make their own decisions. Usually if you are sure to make the main focus the money savings people are more likely to listen. Gosh as far as allowing my kids to swim elsewhere, I like my pool super clean but I...

    NEW USING SALT CHLORINATOR

Welcome Donna!!! First thing you should do is read Pool School and this article on Salt Water Chlorine Generators pool-school/salt_water_chlorine_generators What we usually do at start up is get the water completely balanced, add/top off the salt and once the salt level is correct, start up...

Thank you. We just need some warm, rain free days now so we can get the temp up to swim!

Things are going so well after our rough start!

Well we opened to a hole in the liner that was too bad for repair, new liner, Gorilla Pad, wall foam and cove were ordered along with some replacement equipment. Then the cold - second winter - set in, followed by rain rain rain. Got everything in and filled the pool - we have well water with...

    Pool opening traditions

Ummmm, I think the tradition is that I do all the work and my teenagers invite all their friends over to swim, walk in the house all wet, leave apparently extra articles of clothing all over and deposit garbage on my deck. Ok, kidding - kind of. We always try to open and have the pool ready...

Our strangest melt off ever - WHAT THE???? a leak maybe?

Yes, the seam came apart at the top of the cove in a few spots and there were some pinholes in the cove as well. The liner is out of warranty so we had to buy a new one and decided to go whole nine yards with foam cove and Gorilla Floor Pad and wall foam. In the middle of working on installing...

Our strangest melt off ever - WHAT THE???? a leak maybe?

My boys did leave a pile of leaves in the center of the cover (not more than 20# worth or so) and when the melting started, everything as far as ice and snow slid to the center of the cover since it was lower than the sides of the pool. I'm not sure that would fully explain it but I'm gonna...

Our strangest melt off ever - WHAT THE???? a leak maybe?

This is a picture from the side - I pulled the mesh winter cover up and you can see how the ice is around the sides and melted in the center.

Our strangest melt off ever - WHAT THE???? a leak maybe?

The "ice ring" is about 2.5-3' high and almost 3' wide all the way around. It could be a substantial amount of water when melted. I wonder if I should remove the black winter cover and let it get some sun to melt?

Our strangest melt off ever - WHAT THE???? a leak maybe?

Thanks. And don't you think it's odd that it melted in the center rather than around the sides, leaving a big chunk in the center like it has in the past? Just sees too strange....... The center floor is a strange place for a hole or rip since most of those happen on the sides or at the cove...
