Mostly just need to vent a little, but a question at the end.

This is in a category of inconvenience rather than problem, but I just want to vent. I had my pool closing scheduled with PB on 9/28. I always do the chemicals and I leave a note for them not to add anything, and they do the heavy lifting. I had a schedule in my head of when I'd raise to SLAM...

If it helps, Ocean State is up to $4.49/gallon this spring.

    Where to store Muriatic Acid

Where do people from areas as far north as NH, or even further north keep their Muriatic Acid in the winter? I understand that some people put it in a plastic container outside. Not sure that will work here. We sometimes get over 100 inches of snow and temps below -10 degrees F for a week are...

    How Long Does Polyquat Last?

Ordering some Polyquat 60 from Amazon. Cheaper/bottle if I order 2 and a lot more cheap if I order 4. I only use it at closing. If I order 4, will they last 3 years. If not, will a second one last a year before I use it.

How late do you close in New England?

Our pool is being closed on Wednesday. The water temp is 50. I would have preferred two weeks ago to avoid the elecric cost of running it and the pain of fishing out all the leaves, but I was late calling for an appt.

    Greeeeeeen Water

You're going to need lots and lots of gallons bc SLAMming is and ongoing thing until you pass all 3 criteria. Also, you're going to chlorinate from now on with that instead of pucks. So, you might as well go back and get, say, 10 gallons to start with.

How to get the plugs out?

Never mind. We got it. Case of miscommunication between H and W who have been married 35 yrs and that never happens. LOL

How to get the plugs out?

Trying to open the pool for the first time ourselves. The plugs don't want to come out. I know there's a vacuum behind them, but how do we break that. We've gotten the plug under the skimmer out. Still need to get out 3 where the eyeballs go and one at the basket. What am I missing?

    Lubricate Hex Bolts

We're in the middle of opening our pool today, first time doing it ourselves. Pool looks better than a lot I've seen in the middle of the summer, but will need some SLAMming. While I wait for my husband to finish doing something else so he can remove the plugs (I'm not strong enough,) I...

    Hex bolts

Is there a standard size for the hex bolts that hold down the safety cover for in ground pools. I measured it at 5/16" and bought an Allen wrench, but it's quite a bit too big.

    Considering opening pool ourselves

Thanks. This is the pool cover screw. Here's the ladder bolt.

    Considering opening pool ourselves

This will be our 10th summer with our pool and we have had a TFP since day 1. We have never opened or closed the pool ourselves, we've always had the PB do it, just because we didn't want to do the work. We're considering opening it ourselves this year. I've read the sticky on pool opening. I...

    Should light be removed?

I live in NH so it gets cold. Temps often don't go above 30 for months at a time and sub-zero for at least 1 or 2 weeks each winter is pretty common. I don't want to take the mesh cover off, so what if I just drain to below the light, but leave the light in?

    Should light be removed?

We always have our pool closed by the PB. We've had a lot of rain, so I've been siphoning out some water. I peeked and the light (big type) is still installed. I thought in prior years they had removed the light, but I could be wrong. Is it enough to have the water below the returns or does...

    Looking for some help...

I am not a expert, and there are many such on this site and I will let them expand on what I say, but your Chlorine is not anywhere close to high enough to shock your pool. You need to get it up to 39 and keep it there until it passes the overnight test. Lots and lots of Chlorine. The CC at...
