    Backwashing sand filter always necessary?

I'm only backwashing for less than a minute, but there's still a large volume of water that comes out & I don't want to saturate my lawn (already had an incident where I washed away topsoil and new grass seed....but that's another story). After reading the ins & outs tutorial on sand filters I...

    Backwashing sand filter always necessary?

I just had new sod put in my yard and I don't want to keep saturating it with the high volume of water that comes out when I backwash my filter. Plus I'd rather not keep adding water to my pool each time. I was wondering if it's necessary to backwash every time I vacuum the pool? The sight glass...

Sand deposits on lawn from backwash

The previous owners of the house left a note with pool instructions and it said the sand is new so it shouldn't have to be replaced for a while. I assumed they replaced it because it was due to be replaced

Sand deposits on lawn from backwash

So if I continue normal operation will it eventually drain the sand out?

Sand deposits on lawn from backwash

The previous owner said 15psi is normal. I don't know if they had sand coming out of the drain or not. It's a Jacuzzi laser 225-6/D filter, flow rate 20 gpm/sq ft, filter rate 53 gpm. The pump is a Jacuzzi Magnum 1hp. If it is excess sand in the filter do I need to do anything or will it stop...

Sand deposits on lawn from backwash

This may be a stupid question, but I'm a new owner of a house with a pool. I've been regularly backwashing my sand filter after vacuuming (as per the previous owner's instructions). I've noticed that where the water comes out onto the lawn are small mounds of sand deposits. The sight glass is...

    Skimmer/Plumbing Question

I have the exact same set up in my pool. I have been leaving both ports uncovered thinking I was circulating water through both the skimmer (to clean stuff from the top of the pool), and the drain (to clean stuff from the bottom). However I don't feel any suction from the drain port, so I don't...

    Going on vacation

I use liquid chlorine from a local pool store. They told me to make sure the chlorine level is above 5ppm because the pool is not circulating. I've just been adding chlorine and trying my best to mix it around with the leaf scooper-thingy. I have the strips and a water tester. Both say the...

    Going on vacation

Hello, I'm new to the forums and also a new pool owner. Little background: I just bought a house with a 16x32 inground pool in the winter, it was closed by the previous owners. I know nothing about pools. We had it professionally opened, and the water was pretty black. After a couple of weeks...
