Dicalite DE Instructions Call for 50% More DE than Pentair

I cleaned my filter grids yesterday. I felt like I had an excessive amount of DE in the filter, even after multiple backwashes prior to opening it up. When getting ready to refill, I was looking at the sticker on the side of the filter and realized it says to use 4.8 lbs of DE (for my 48 SF...

New Pump Motor - Leaking From Bolt Hole

Right - with regards to your edit, the bottom is wide open. So it'd be dripping down there for sure. To come directly from the bolt head... Makes me think it has to be a crack or something making water seep into that area. Based on the schematic, the area on the other side of those bolt holes...

New Pump Motor - Leaking From Bolt Hole

I replaced the motor (century motor B2854) on my Whisperflo pool pump (Schematic). I bought a new seal kit, and replaced items 11, 16, and 9. On 11 and 9 I used some lubricant when installing. On 16, I put some silicone around the side that goes into the seal plate, and nothing around the side...

Can't isolate skimmers from main drain

Yeah, no diverter. Just two open holes. I'll go the sump route. Does anyone have any insight into why a pool builder would go this route? assuming it was the original installer who did this. I can't think of a good reason for it, but maybe back in the day people had a reason?

Can't isolate skimmers from main drain

Two lines, and one valve. Turning the valve one way completely turns off one skimmer. Turning it the other way completely turns off the other.

Can't isolate skimmers from main drain

Two skimmers, two main drains. The one in the deep end near the two main drains has the two holes open in it. the other one has a plugged hole and one open.

Can't isolate skimmers from main drain

Ok, so I have two open holes in one skimmer. This is my third pool but probably 6th or 7th that I've helped maintain, and I've never seen this setup. But this is also probably the oldest pool I've dealt with. I'm really not sure what that second hole is supposed to accomplish. If I'm right in...

Can't isolate skimmers from main drain

There is one valve on the line coming into the pump, and it appears to only switch between the shallow skimmer and the deep end skimmer. My assumption (I'll dive in the deep end in a bit to verify) is that on both settings, the main drains are sucking, but I'm not sure. There is no way for me to...

Can't isolate skimmers from main drain

Moved from here. I found this when searching for a similar issue. I just bought a house with a pool, and the CYA is high so I'm trying to drain/refill. I thought I had shut off the skimmers, and was pumping my water to waste, but then I heard the pump sucking air. Sure enough, after re-filling...

    Variable Speed Pump Data/Discussion

You're right. I think what I'm seeing is due to a likely issue with pressure side gauge. I've suspected it for a while anyway. This would be a good time to replace it. Thanks again for looking over my write-up.

    Variable Speed Pump Data/Discussion

Thanks for reading and responding, mas. I need to go read your signature posts. They look thorough and educational. I don't think that RPM and flow rate are linear as the change in TDH and RPM are not linear and the pump curves are not linear. When you reduce your rpm, you reduce your head by...

    Variable Speed Pump Data/Discussion

I've gone over the data some more, and added in the power calculations. I've attached what I have now. For reference (in case the picture eventually disappears or is corrupted as happens in forums sometimes), the pump at max speed--3075 rpm--costs $12.16/month for 1 turnover per day and flows at...

Valves - PVC ball vs Brass Ball vs Diverter Valves

I don't know why it posted my last post again. I deleted it. I'll just say that while the valve I posted should still have problems within a few years, it's also a few bucks and thirty seconds to swap it out.

Valves - PVC ball vs Brass Ball vs Diverter Valves

I have these on all of my lines. IF you have a problem, there's no re-plumbing. Just buy a new one and insert it. Seems like the best solution to me. Shop AMERICAN VALVE 1" PVC True Union Ball Valve at Lowes.com

    Variable Speed Pump Data/Discussion

This could be long--sorry in advance. I had a new pool installed last year, and I decided to go with a variable speed pump since it was for one reason or another free for me to upgrade to it. The pump itself is a Viron P280 variable speed pump with speed settings ranging from 1375 RPM to 3075...

    Low Pressure, Low Flow???

I tried clearing the lines with one of those bladders that attaches to a hose. Didn't see any sign of obstruction. Also, the thing busted for some reason. But today, I took apart the wet side of the pump and found two handfuls of leaves in the impeller. After reassembling, pressure and flow are...

    Low Pressure, Low Flow???

I just got back from vacation last night. I had a guy that was supposed to be adding bleach to my pool and emptying the skimmers, and well, he didn't. I'd also mentioned to my neighbor (different guy) that if he gets a chance he might swing by and pull leaves since they're coming down so...

    Removing Hayward DE6020 Filter Lid

I cleaned my filter grids yesterday, and everything went pretty smoothly. One grid had a tear in it so I had to go buy a new one, but other than that, everything appears to be fine. This morning, I went out to check on the filter, and it looks like there MAY be a small leak where the clamp bolt...
