    water not circulating...

Thank you Pat! Your 2nd idea was the correct diagnosis. While I could still turn the impeller with my fingers, there was a ton of leaf debris jammed in there that I was able to remove, which solved the problem. What I still don't understand was how that debris got through or around my pump...

    water not circulating...

No problems with the flaps in front of the skimmers. Cartridges were replaced a few months ago. This change happened suddenly, not gradually. Pool water is perfect (but will change soon if I don't get it circulating)! Single speed pump...

    water not circulating...

Yes, all 4 filter cartridges. Pressure gauge has been working properly, and seems to match the amount of water exiting at top of filter when I open that valve. Both poolside skimmers look clear, and flow is the same regardless of how I manually open/close the combination of the two skimmers and...

    water not circulating...

For some reason, our pool water is barely circulating. The pump is on and running, but pressure is low, and cell cartridges were recently replaced. (So problem seems to be suction?) Valves are in the correct position, and regardless of what 'mode' they are in, water still does not circulate...

Pool School update needed for DE "Quad" filters??

Back_Yard, Jason, and Jim, Thank you, that is all helpful information. Now please review the "Filter Comparison" in Pool School and see that it's incomplete/inaccurate/outdated. (DE Filter: "Requires backwashing", etc.) Several points from this string should be in Pool School for novices and...

Pool School update needed for DE "Quad" filters??

I beg to differ. If they don't require backwashing, that's a significant difference.

Pool School update needed for DE "Quad" filters??

I'm obviously not convincing... :) It just seems to me that this new design is a game changer for DE vs. cartridge filters that isn't addressed where it should be (Pool School).

Pool School update needed for DE "Quad" filters??

Thanks Jim, but I still think an update to Pool School is warranted. I've heard/seen from several that they don't require backwashing, which, if true, would make it a relatively easy replacement for a cartridge filter. But this does not seem definitively clear anywhere, nor are any pros and cons...

Pool School update needed for DE "Quad" filters??

Trying to understand the pros/cons of a DE "Quad" filter and feel pretty confused after reviewing Pool School and a Forum thread search... Seems they are a cross between a DE filter and a Cartridge Filter, but still confused... Do they require backwashing or not? How does cleaning them compare...

How to know when to replace filter housing? Top of filter "rising" when starting?

How to know when to replace filter housing? Top of filter "rising" when starting?

Re: How to know when to replace filter housing? Top of filter "rising" when starting? Pressure showed 20 psi when installed/clean and gets to about 25 psi by the time I clean it. Does that sound about right?

How to know when to replace filter housing? Top of filter "rising" when starting?

Re: How to know when to replace filter housing? Top of filter "rising" when starting? I'm not familiar with how/when to "backwash" a cartridge filter... Could you elaborate? Thank you, - - - Updated - - - Can I just replace the top half, or should I replace the whole housing/tank...

How to know when to replace filter housing? Top of filter "rising" when starting?

How to know when to replace filter housing? Top of filter "rising" when starting? I've recently noticed the top of my cartridge filter housing slightly "rising" when the filter pump turns on. Haven't paid attention to that before. Is that normal? OK? Does a new filter housing slightly expand...

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Whew! You sure lost me there. But 77-79% of present flow should be plenty. HOWEVER, based on your previous post, I'm wondering if we should keep the present impeller with the valve restriction in order to reduce the power used by the motor (and thereby even save electricity)?? Or did I...

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Great, thank you. The pump is downhill from the waterfall and pool level, so I'm not sure how to winterize, as there are no valves to close near the pump. So I will partly close the valve near the waterfall, limiting the gpm but increasing the pressure for the pump... That does seem counter...

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Thank you James--that's very helpful. I will do my best to explain, and have printed the specs sheet from the website for the Tristar pumps showing the impeller/pump matches. I have scoured all of the pool supply stores in my area (Austin, TX) and unfortunately I can not obtain the correct...

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Looking at the Hayward website, description of SPX3210C says: Impeller-1Hp for new construction & the aftermarket, TriStar® is the most hydraulically efficient pool pump that provides superior flow and energy efficiency. Most hydraulically efficient wet-end - can often step down in pump size(HP)...

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

I'm so sorry--that was MY mistake. I must have made a typo earlier above. You are correct, it is a SPX3210C... Is there any way I could show him in writing somewhere online that this is a bad match? Could you please point me to your source? Thank you,

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

James, I'm not sure if your last statement was a typo, but he installed a SPX3010C (NOT a SPX3210C). My question is if the SPX3010C will damage a Century B2853 motor... Thank you,

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Thank you James. Unfortunately he came, installed it, and left before I heard back from you (I gave you far too little time to respond). The SPX3010C is what came out of my old pump. It seemed to be in fine condition, and he said his "book" said it would work with the Century B2853. Do you agree...

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

A pool mechanic friend would like to replace my motor with this: Century B2853 with this impeller: SPX3010C. Will that be OK?

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Thank you James. Out of curiosity and effort to understand, why does the SPX3205C and SPX3207CM say 1/2 and 3/4 hp respectively in their product descriptions, in contrast to your 1.0 and 1.25 matching descriptions here above? What is the significance of matching the impeller to motor, and what...

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Thank you James. Do the impeller ring part, diffuser O-Ring, housing gasket, and shaft seal assembly numbers change if I go with your first option here (vs. the one you gave above)?

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of what I had? I can get the first (3/4 hp) motor much sooner, and need to as the temps drop and freeze protect has it running at night! In that case, to ensure I have enough flow, should I get the 3/4 hp impeller instead? And what else do I need to do this DIY?

Very noisy pump... Do I need a new one? Or just replace the motor? Or bearings?

Thank you James. Regarding your recs above... Can you tell me how the first motor option, and second motor option with each of those two impellers, might compare to my present configuration, knowing I want to decrease my flow?
