Emergency! I cut a pipe and the water wont stop!!

If it is below the pool, then you will need to plug the source of water (main drain and/or skimmers) or if it is a supply line, then you need to plug the returns and/or water features. Another possible solution is to repair it with a pipe repair clamp: https://a.co/d/1Knfgm4. In a pinch...

    Pentair Valves

This makes sense for a 3-way valve, I get it. It just bothers me on a regular valve. Like JamesW says, I’ll just get used to it. Just a “grinds my gears” type of thing.

    Pentair Valves

Do the Pentair valves bug anyone else? The handle is 90 degrees to the pipe when open and in line when closed (the little off tab is the indication). This goes against everything I know about valves. Typically, the handle is inline when the valve is open. Is there a handle configuration that...

How not to make a Skimmer Basket grabber pole.

I love this site! I have a few extra big zip ties that have now found a use!

How not to make a Skimmer Basket grabber pole.

I had no idea these existed until I went to my neighbor's house and saw them. I was just sucking it up and reaching my hand in there in the cold water. How primitive I was!

Hayward RS1500 Pump Will Not Prime

I had a suction side union leak also and found some gunk on the face of the non-gasket side. Cleaned that up and was able to fix the suction side leak.

Hayward RS1500 Pump Will Not Prime

A trick I tried is to close the inlet to the pump and fill the pump basket with water. Close the basket cover, start the pump, then crack open the inlet until there is flow.

Another dead GFCI breaker - what is a normal lifespan?

I had been away from this all day and it blew up! Looking at a few items, I see corrosion on the panel busbars. You could try and clean this up (after turning off power and verifying deenergized). Also, do you have a picture of the back of the breaker where it connects to the busbar? That...

Another dead GFCI breaker - what is a normal lifespan?

Do you notice any corrosion in your electric panel? Make sure your panel is sealed (I am assuming it is a NEMA 3R, please verify).

    Jandy Valve Configuration

Thanks. Alternatively, I could also just install two of the Jandy 2-port valves. I will probably just wait until these eventually break.

    Jandy Valve Configuration

I want to replace my 2 PVC ball valves I have for my water features with a Handy 3-port valve. I have never installed one of these valves. Can they be configured to allow the inlet port as shown to turn off (i.e. being able to rotate the valve all the way to the off position? I know I can...

What's happening with my pump? Making more noise every day.

Hello. Welcome! That sounds like the bearings starting to go bad. Ask your landlord to fix because your neighbors are complaining about the noise.

almost 3 year old hayward pump dead?

How low? Polarity does not matter on an AC capacitor.

almost 3 year old hayward pump dead?

    1. Verify you have correct voltage at the motor. 240V or 120V depending on how your motor is set up. 2. Verify the replacement capacitor is good. Check the uF with a meter that can read capacitance. Value should be real close to the value stamped on the side. Discharge the cap first! If...

    Pool pump troubleshoot

The timer is not "sending" power. Is there a manual on/off switch? Maybe the little green tab is broken and not making contact. Also, I noticed a temperature switch. That could also not be closing the contact to send power. You can bypass wire the timer if you are comfortable and turn the...

Brand new pump drawing high amp overheating

Also, one thing you can do is to throttle close the outlet valve from the filter. This will reduce the flow and will reduce the amps. DO NOT close the suction side valves.

Can you take a picture of the pump wiring connections and post here please?

Brand new pump drawing high amp overheating

    1. Is the motor wired correctly and set up as a 230V motor and not 115V? I see a piece of 12/2 romex coming out of the conduit running in free air. Is that temporary? 2. Did the pump and motor come as a pair? Verify the motor is sized correctly for the pump. They may be mismatched. 3...

Vacuuming with a Cartridge Filter... Where does the junk go?

With a cartridge filter, it just gets stuck in the filter. You just need to pull the filter out and hose it off. That is a roundabout way of vacuuming to waste.

Electric Sub Panel - Is this correct?

That is a heck of a good catch! Have you sent them a message about it? The pounds thing on the cart is weird too.

Can you get a pic of the back so we can see the writing? Like this:

Electric Sub Panel - Is this correct?

No. Not that I have ever seen. Also, basically, the neutral is now a hot wire feeding back power on the neutral bus.

Electric Sub Panel - Is this correct?

Typically, the GFCI has the LOAD wires on top and the LINE on the bottom (assuming this receptacle is this orientation). I have never seen a LINE and LOAD left and right. Can you post a pic of the back of the GFCI? I would be more concerned of the fact of none of the breakers being GFCI.

    Pump Electrical Issue

Haha! I replied to this. It must have not taken. Yep, remove it. It is not the proper way to bond and it is not doing anything. You need to add the proper bonding.

    Pump Electrical Issue

You may have had a high resistance connection in that wire causing he higher amps. Technically, it is metal near your pool, so you can connect. However, since it is not a proper bound or ground, I would not connect it.
  27. Randrx2

    Pump Electrical Issue

You can connect the pigtail from the metal box to the receptacle. Also connect the ground in the 12/2 to the receptacle. The bonding path is different then the ground fault path. For the bonding, you are essentially connecting all the metal parts together to make everything the same potential...

    Pump Electrical Issue

How was it wired before? I am only guessing, but I think the bare ground wire going to the ground was some attempt at bonding the metal box. If the 12/2 yellow wire has a ground, and it is properly grounded back at the source panel, then connect that ground and the hot and neutral to the GFCI...

    Pump Electrical Issue

That’s good. Because the pump is rated at 115V. So you should actually pull less than 15 amps. But only a little less.
