Waste should bypass the filter. If you added the cya 5 days ago, it should be dissolved out of there anyway. Another good reason to hang socks in front of returns instead of in the skimmer basket.

I didn't buy a two speed, as I only run my pump when running through the solar heater. The faster your water goes the more you heat, so just making it to the roof won't make for efficient heating. If you only have your pump on 6 hours a day, I imagine you could have the solar on for 75% or more...

3 simple solutions: Did you add DE after backwashing? Are you running on a very low speed? Try turning up your pump's rpm. What looks like zero on a pressure gauge could be 1 or 2, especially if you're using a gauge that goes all the way up to 60 psi. Is there water coming out of the returns...

I do keep mine open until the weather here is quite cold, below freezing. Not all winter because it hits -40 here sometimes and the heater can't fire up if it gets too cold out. It's enjoyable on crisp evenings, it almost feels like a hot tub. The only problem is, if your equipment breaks down...

Something to give extra cool down time for the spa heater, I would imagine. I would bet the delay correlates to how recently the heater was on.

It's nice to have a manual valve... That way people can turn it on and off when you're not around to help them figure out the automation.

Burying Flex PVC can go wrong. Stones in the back fill can cut it. And insects can eat through it. Using Flex with a booster pump can also cause joints to fail. A lot of people do it with no problems though.

Did they bury flexible PVC?

What leads you to believe it's not working well? Just that it still looks clean? Or is your water looking dirty?

If you haven't sold your house (yet, or at all?), could you just switch out the equipment? Seems like a 1hp would be alright for 28000 gallons with no features. Congratulations on the marriage!

Filter explosions can, and have, killed people. Generally the catastrophic blow ups seem to be in 2 piece cartridge filters that 'blow their top' and launch equipment into the air and at people. But a sand filter isn't totally immune. If the vessel itself is compromised it needs to be turned...

The ball valves will eventually seize up and the handles tend to break too. Not using proper PVC for a pressure line makes it more likely to leak or, rarely, fail. If there's no problems, I wouldn't replumb at the moment but keep an eye on them (and a wrench in case the red handles snap off...

Darn you, Arizona. I've never thought to myself: "hmm... How do I make my pool colder?" Maybe just fill up the freezer with water, Let it freeze solid overnight and drop giant ice cubes in? Don't think it will help much but it would look cool if you could get a freezer sized Ice cube in your pool.

Re: Should I proceed with paying for leak detection? Electric charge? What don't they think of next? My leak guy just put on a scuba suit and mask and swam around finding leaks. He found them all because it definitely stopped leaking... I'd bucket test over a few days since it's so close...

Wrong type of sand in the filter. Or cracked lateral in your sand filter. Or the sand is blowing in from outside the pool. Or not rinsing after backwashing. Are you sure it's sand? It could be fine dirt, pollen, or dead algae.

The chlorine, combined with brushing, should eventually get rid of organic stains.

Regarding Replacement: I'll​ just say that 2hp is a big pump and if you don't have a big pool or a lot of features you may want to replace it anyway. If there's no water flowing through it, it will get very hot. So don't run it anymore until you figure out the problem or you will burn it out.

Did you backwash within two days of adding it? Is your filter pressure high enough to get it dissolved in the filter (not running a pump on low speed)? If your water is cold it can slow the reaction and give your a false negative, bring in a cup of water and let it sit until it's room...

I have no idea about my sand filter brand or model. There are absolutely no stickers or markings on it anywhere. If that matters.

Hello, looking to replace my old multiport valve. There are some cracks around the pressure gauge and it has a few other problems. I'm looking for one that will just drop right into place after I take out the one I have. I've got 1.5" plumbing, already have unions at all the ports.

Please turn the breaker off immediately. I don't know what's​ under that tape and looking at that picture scares the heck out of me.

I also noticed your pump is set for 220 volts... Check the old pump to see what it was set for (or if it's single voltage) and make sure you've got the voltage right.

Check your circuit panel(s) and make sure you haven't tripped any breakers. The bond wire equalizes between all metal components of your pool... So if there's a fault in the electrical for your heater it could keep your pump off too. If all your breakers are on, you could try turning them all...

Put the submersible pump in a bucket if you go that route.... Don't want it to sit on/damage your pool surface. You can use the pump hose to help mix the bleach by having someone follow you as you pour it in and spraying right where you've poured. I might even add a dose of polyquat...

Is your pool clear? One day without filtration probably isn't the end of the world... Put it on bypass and do the hairnet in the Skimmer thing?

I also have the fafco panels. The vrv makes a weird whooshing/honking/sucking sound. If you leave water in the panels they will often have condensation on them on cool mornings... If they don't leak while running under pressure, they shouldn't leak while sitting. The vrv is essentially a ball...

Backwash good and see if it goes down and stays down.

If you only added it last night, it can take a day or two to show up. Also 12 ounces of dichlor adds less than 8 ppm of cya to a 6k gallon pool. Not enough to show on the test. To get up to 40 ppm you need to add 12 ounces of dichlor 4 more times, or just add 26 oz (weight) of stabilizer.
