Vinyl Pool Build - St. Louis area

Looks like a decent equipment loadout. I'd want some more details on the exact pump and filter they're planning on installing; we'd recommend a 2-speed pump at least, if not a variable speed. Do you have any plans for a cleaner? Are you sure you need automation, rather than just a manual timer?

we had a problem with a lot of cracking and settling in old pool deck

Sorry to hear this - it sounds like some really lousy work and he's trying to weasel out of responsibility. Can you post some photos?

Leak in my mid pool return line

Sounds like you have a decent starting plan - If you know where those suspect connections are, take a look.

how much wider do they dig the hole? plumbing tomorrow. is the hole dug right?

Re: pb recommeds AGAINST umbrella sleeves in deck Lady slippers would be nice. Candelilla is kinda scraggly, I think, as is the horsetail...your house though! Is it a solid block wall behind it? If so you might consider some vines, which would really green up the place and cut down on the...

    Decking demo (fiberglass pool)

Yeah, I think pavers are the answer. At least that's what I would do.

    Decking demo (fiberglass pool)

A picture would help... I'm thinking pavers on top of your existing deck may be the best answer, to bring the existing surface up to be flush with the coping.

Tile sugesstions to match stone veneer

I haven't, but since it is a mixture of many colors I would pick something that contrasts with it. A vivid blue of some kind would be stereotypically pool-ish. Perhaps something with a mixture of blue and tan-gray (like the dominant gray in the stone). The best thing to do by far would be to...

Caribbean Viking pool (16W x 40L) build in New Jersey

Welcome to TFP! I can offer a few comments: - regarding the valves, a multiport is better than a slide valve, and larger pipe is better than smaller. Seems that threaded connections would be better, so I'd get the third one (2" NPT) - you probably need the junction box...can't remember why...

    Poolside towel tree?

Going from memory here...I'm pretty sure I put some 4" lag screws (2 of them?) up through the base into the post. Then some smaller screws up into the brackets, and then horizontally through the brackets into the post. I countersunk the screws then patched over them...which makes it look real...

    Poolside towel tree?

We made one like this. It's a staircase post, some shelf brackets, dowels, pegs, and a round piece of pine, all painted retina-searing blue. Not all that cheap in the end (probably $60 in parts), but attractive, sturdy, and should last a long time. We use tablecloth clips to keep towels and...

Fiberglass Gelcoat Refinishing - Anyone done any?

sorry you haven't gotten an answer. I don't recall seeing any threads showing results, but there have got to be some people here who have had it done. Slow time of year though...

    A newbie DIY pool build

Wow, ipe huh! I was gonna ask what kind of wood it was. How did you like working with it? I've heard it is difficult to saw/drill/etc.

    Pool decking options

Welcome to TFP! that's the first I've seen the "pebbleflex" product...looks pretty nice, but I have a hard time believing it's that durable. Here in Tucson, I have 2' of kooldeck and then red-brown concrete pavers outside of that. The kooldeck is hot but walkable in summer; the pavers will...

    Water line tile grout?

If the tiles are coming off, the thinset was applied improperly or was the wrong type. Grout doesn't do anything except look nice!

Even if you run pipes now, I'd still put them inside a big pipe so they can be pulled and repaired without too much fuss. 3.5" PVC is good, I like the big black ABS pipe for toilet drains, I think it's 4"? You can fit a bunch of stuff in there. I'm not a code expert but I'm pretty sure you...

Sunny, the BOP here is different than BOP in Los Angeles...stupid, huh? That's why we should all know our latin and use botanical names  :whip: So... :) Strelitzia reginae (Bird of Paradise) is a short (<5') many-stemmed plant with gorgeous orange+blue bird-shaped flowers Strelitzia...

A sago would be fine in an 18" cutout, a queen palm will eventually grow too big for even a 24. there are lots of cool palm species available out in California that aren't quite so big.

Jim, you probably don't want the jets to actually be heated...in my parents spa, when the heater kicks on, the water coming out is HOT! We all shimmy away from it until the heat kicks off again. edit for clarification: they have a two pump system. Jets are unheated (drains -> big pump ->...
  30. Melt In The Sun

    1963 pool resurection

Generally it's better to have a separate (unfiltered, unheated) loop for spa jets, with a pump that only runs when the jets are on. Having it 3" is good and nothing strange about that...my parents' pool is 30+ years old and has 3" plumbing on the spa loop. You don't have to do it this way, but...
