    The Digging Begins!

Looking good. I can understand where you are coming from on the heat. Sat here in VA was 104 and yesterday was 108 -- these are real temps mind you not heat index. I didn't even want to know the heat index. Kids were in the pool all day on Sat - I popped in for a bit and it was bath water...

I am 50 feet away and notice no issues at all.

    Contract advice

If you are lucky you may be able to hold 10% back until the job is basically done. I seriously doubt you will be able to hold it much more than a day or 2 after completion of the project. Most contractors will never agree to the terms you are proposing. Good luck with your build. Greg

    Pump location?

I wouldn't go there personally as it would be visible from the street (eyesore IMHO) and would be next to your neighbor's house. Why not put it in the upper left corner of pic 1 where there is some sort of box thing? It would be out of the way, shaded, and in the rear of the yard so less noise...

    Pump location?

My equipment is in an old steel shed I had in the backyard. I had moved up to nice big wooden shed (too much Crud of course) and never took it down. Kind of glad I didn't as it works great for this purpose. I have an AGP non IG just for your info and my shed is about 50 feet away from the...

Skimmer leaking on the outside of the pool

I don't think your liner is hosed. If you have to pull it yes it my be difficult to get it to line back up if it is an overlap style. If it is beaded it will still be difficult but more doable IMHO. If you were planning to replace the pool next year can you live with the leak for the rest of...

    Northern California Build

Looks good. This will be really nice once it is finished. I really like the shape/design of this pool a lot. These free form styles are by far my favorite. Greg

32'x16' Doughboy with partial bury under construction

Man that was quick. Looks good. I like how you didn't waste the water and pumped it out of your old Intex into the new pool -- smart move sir!! Greg

Skimmer leaking on the outside of the pool

Yes I see that (about the frame) and that tells me the install was done even more wrong because you should never cut the frame. My guess is that they wanted the skimmer as high up as possible providing for as much water depth as possible. Skimmer boxes don't go to the very top into the frame...

Equipment House Options - Looking for Advice/Ideas

I vote for the shed. It's what I did. It was a ton of work digging an 18" deep 50 foot long trench but it is very nice having the equipment out of the way of the elements and noise. FYI I have the exact same metal shed from Home Depot. I cut out some of the OSB floor and laid down a "heat...

Skimmer leaking on the outside of the pool

Actually yes your dremel would probably be a good way to go. Might I suggest you drop the liner down in this corner if possible and then I would definitely put a board or something on the inside of the pool to "block" the opening and protect the liner. I would either have someone hold it there...

Skimmer leaking on the outside of the pool

Yes that picture describes what I am talking about. In essence the widemouth skimmer will require you to cut a larger hole for the skimmer thus getting rid of the jagged edges and poor install. Then you can install the skimmer box correctly. from inside the pool it should go plastic frame...

Skimmer leaking on the outside of the pool

Umm that is not duct tape I see. That is the pool wall bent out and the skimmer box attached right to the liner IMHO. Can't say that I have seen that before. To the best of my knowledge the skimmer box should sit on the outside of the steel wall with a gasket between it and the inner part of...

32'x16' Doughboy with partial bury under construction

Agreed a nice level yard is a wonderful starting point!! That and having dirt you can get through. Mine was nightmare as the pool guy said my dirt was like concrete and I can confirm that since I had dug an 18" deep 50 foot long trench a few days earlier and it was horrible. Greg

Vogue AGP install in progress! (with pics)

Re: AGP install coming soon.. Well coming from someone who just got theirs done last week I can tell you that during the process the answer is heck NO! I did not "install" the pool I paid someone to do it but what I did do was the work for the 50 foot long 18" deep trench for plumbing, the 110...

    "New" DIY build in NC

Awesome work!! And speaking from my own recent experience Pavers are a PITA!!! I did a 15 foot x 4 foot pathway and it nearly killed me. Anyone can do it sure but it is very backbreaking work. Took an entire Sat from 7:30am - 6:30pm and we got rained out so it wasn't finished. Spent Wed...

Need some help before construction starts

I definitely would not concrete up to the house myself. I don't care for the look is all. I also agree about the water runoff that has been mentioned as well. My only comment would be to give yourself either a concrete path or a paver path from your steps to the pool itself. I did this with...

Re: It has begun .... 27' Round AGP - 6/3/2010 Well nothing to report .. or pics for that matter as right after they left from leveling the ground we got massive amounts of rain for the rest of the day/night. I woke up this AM to a huge mudbowl - yippee. Suffice to say we are in the wait mode...
