    Pool placement

phonedave is correct about setbacks. In my area the setbacks would not allow me to place the pool from front to back on side of the yard. I got a Variance from the Zoning Board. This can be a long process and rather expensive (lawyer, aerial photos, registered letters to neighbors, etc,)...

    UPDATED Build IN PROGRESS!

Re: New Build New Jersey! The pipe cost from 1 /1/2 to 2 is minor. I would of went with a variable speed pump if they had them when my pool was built. I have 2 1/2" pipe, the problem with that is box stores don't carry 2 /12" pipe fittings.

    Automatic Water Leveler

I've had a auto lever for 5 years. It has a 3/4" line for the drain connection. In this time I haven't had to manually drain the pool yet.

Re: Where can I find REVIEWS of Installers in NJ? I had a similar issue. The setbacks would place the pool in the middle of the yard. I got a Variance for the pool and a detached garage. Obtaining a variance can be very expensive and time consuming. Example: Lawyer, ariel photos, registered...

It also helps if the skimmers are placed so the predominant wind blows toward the skimmers.

    The Dig Is Too Deep!

Great pics and progress. I have the same PVC pier setup. After the pool was complete and backfilled, it was two weeks before the pad was poured. I ran a soaker hose around the pool, on and off for 1 1/2 weeks. Had to move many wheel barrows of dirt to fill around steps, spa, skimmers. The...

Help....down to the wire on Salt vs Chlorine

Welcome to TFP, SWG here and am very pleased with it. Read "Pool School" many times, the articles address many questions. The best tools are knowledge and a good test kit. I use the TF100 test kit from the link in my signature. Test the water and stay in control  , or not and let it...

    Taking the plunge in Birmingham...

Welcome to TFP. Pool School is worth reading, a wealth of knowledge there (top of page). Purchase a good test kit, I am partial to the one in my signature TF100. List the specific's about the pool equip., plumbing, etc.,. There are alot of great people here to help you out.

What would you do differently, if you could?

Run min. of 2" piping to every thing. I have Kool deck and like the texture and feel. That being said the dirt and sand lays in the crevises. Takes a little work cleaning it, hose or power washer. The Kool deck chips up in spots, around the edge. If your going to have a safety cover...

New to the forum and starting a new build

Coming along pretty quickly. On mine after the back fill, I ran a soaker hose around the pool. The amount of settling was impressive, especially around the steps. Many wheelbarrows of dirt to fill it in. Just something I did.

I remeber the mess well. When its said and done the amount of time looking at dirt piles was worth it. Pool School at the top of the page is well worth the time spent now. Get a good test kit, also spelled out in Pool School.

previous owners took the pump and filter

If you could get some more specifics, it would help. Plumbing size, number of jets (pool/spa). What type of filter preference you have. Heater to be gas or heat pump. A 2spd, variable speed, or variable flow pump would be the best. I have a 2hp-2spd and run it on low most of the time. If I...

Pool Build - Atlantic County, NJ

The SWCG works well for me. Personel preference, it does have a higher up front cost to add a SWCG. I bought mine and had the pool installation crew add the manifold for me. At the time they didn't offer a SWCG.
