    Algae, dead algae or dirt?

I had that happen in my AG pool in the later years of its life. I am fairly certain it is a light algae bloom that is growing, dying, and being filtered out repeatedly. A good SLAM and vacuum/backwashing should help. Any objects in the pool such as ladders with algae hiding spots should be...

    Hayward T-15 output

Made another discovery this morning. I have the AquaPlus system, but don't use it for anything other than running the SWG. However, since I don't use it for running the pump and never set up the timers within, it was not "Filtering" 24/7 and therefore not running the SWG around the clock. I'm...

    Hayward T-15 output

Thanks all. You sparked a couple thoughts. I do have the variable speed pump running low for 12 hours, I thought it was still high enough for the SWG but I'll have to check. I did some math as well, if I assume I'm losing 2/3rds of my FC on a full sun day, I would need to be adding 1lb to...

    Hayward T-15 output

Greetings all, I am about 3 months into a new T-15 and I am wondering if it is working correctly. I currently have the % up to 75% and it is barely maintaining 3ppm. (20x36, 29k gals, 100% full sun, 60 CYA). The temp has been high for a few weeks now 90-95, all sun. The unit reads 27V, 6.9A...

    Lighting transformer gone bad?

Forgot to post a follow up on this. After correcting the feed and low voltage wiring through the transformer, the transformer was fine, the color logic light that has been attached was dead as was the switch controller. So for now I have a standard light switch controlling 3 of 4 pool lights...

    Lighting transformer gone bad?

At least I'm in good company! We shall see how the $400 colorlogic light likes the potential 1200 volts 😱

    Lighting transformer gone bad?

Dang. The on the transformer itself, the 12, 13, 14V taps are labeled "12V" etc. I assumed those were the secondary taps. I guess there's no reason these couldn't be primary taps and there's just the single output from the secondary... The Hayward wire diagrams are trash. There are conflicts...

    Lighting transformer gone bad?

No GFCI, I went to a straight breaker as a test. I don't have the generic yet, the one I saw is the same formfactor as the Hayward, so I'm sure its meant to LOOK like it is listed for pool use. But a very good point.

    Lighting transformer gone bad?

I’m installing a Hayward ltbuy11300 300w transformer after having it stored (new) for a couple years. I have one colorlogic light attached to the secondary. When I put power to the primary side it immediately trips the breaker (20A). Pops like a dead short. I installed the snubber that came...

    Drylok as surface prep??

I did actually. I’ve only done the rough spots and high traffic areas for now. It does seem to make a difference. Also seam between concrete and steel. Since we don’t have the decking in yet, I was getting some water seepage at that location. This stuff sealed it up great.

Concrete coping/decking continuous rebar and construction joint???

Thanks J I thought about dowels but then pictured my concrete guy's expression when I tell him that's what I want.. ;) Probably the best approach though. Interestingly, your pool setup is VERY similar to my new one that is under construction. 28,000 Hydra, 4' steel w/8' deep end, 2.25HP...

    Drylok as surface prep??

I’ve got a new vinyl pool nearing the finish line. Under the liner (the floor), we did a Portland wet mix (mortar more or less). It is smooth here and there but in some areas pretty rough. We have a delay while waiting for the vinyl install and I was thinking about maybe doing drylok over the...

Appreciate feedback on a new pool

Having a brand new Hayward SWG and "automation" controller, I cannot say that I would go that way again. Hayward programming is mostly by one or two button entry and simple tasks like pump run speeds/times are all dependent on continuous power to the pump. Lose power, your pump starts its...

Concrete coping/decking continuous rebar and construction joint???

Appreciate all the input! The coping won’t be “connected” to the pool wall, but between the bonding lugs and concrete over pour, I’m sure it won’t truly be free floating either.

Concrete coping/decking continuous rebar and construction joint???

Most of the way through a new VINYL pool install. For the coping/decking we are doing poured concrete. Our PB wants to do a 12" coping and a separate pour for the wider decking. Coping is cantilevered (styrofoam) forms. The questions are: 1) Should the perpendicular rebar be stubbed out of the...

Advice needed on new hydra pool construction

Hoping that the TFP silverbacks can help with some advice on this one. I bought a 20x36x8 hydra vinyl pool with 48" steel walls. Just finished the excavation more or less, it was nearly ALL rock and mostly a nightmare. The problem is that there is no "ledge" of earth that is needed to set the...

    Building in-ground DIY

Hi all, long time TFP user and learned all I need to know here about keeping my pools crystal clear. After 7 years of AG pool, we are building a DIY 20x36 vinyl starting now. I've seen a handful of posts here about people that have done this and lived to tell about it, but would appreciate any...
