Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

I have a tile roof and my pool is at least 30 feet from the house.

Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

That's a definite possibility and could be contributing to the problem, but this "sand" was in my pool before the fires started. Although the air has been fairly clear over my house the last few days, the "sand" is still in there in the same quantities.

Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

Just an update. I've completed that SLAM process and I'm keeping the FC levels at 3-5 ppm. The gray sand is still there. I vacuumed it all out yesterday and today it's all back. I don't believe this is dead algae. With the chlorine levels I've been keeping, there's no way algae can even start...

Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

I'll take your word for it. Although I'm not seeing anything green in the water and it's clear to the bottom otherwise. I'm presently not in a position to SLAM it as that is a multi-day undertaking. Work is taking up all my time right now. All I can do is make sure the FC level stays up.

Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

That was the first thing I checked. None found.

Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

I don't brush it because of the lack of a floor drain. It doesn't get pulled into the skimmer, it just settles back to the bottom. I vacuum it out. I can get it all out, make sure my FC is good and 2 days later, it's all back, laying in the same area of the pool. I've shocked the pool several...

Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

It kind of goes poof. If it is algae, it's like no algae I've ever seen before. It's concrete gray and looks granulated like sand. I keep the chlorine levels up in my pool regularly, so I don't understand how algae can ever start growing. But it is concentrated in certain areas of the pool...

Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

I have not been able to collect any. I'm just going by what it looks like. I looks like granules about the size of sand. My water chemistry: Free chlorine-4, pH-7.6, Total alkalinity-65, Cyanuric acid-45. The water is crystal clear otherwise so I don't think it's algae or a chemistry issue. I...

Gray sand on the bottom of my pool

I have this gray sand on the bottom of my above ground pool. Some of it is stuck to the vinyl and needs to be scrubbed off. I've seen other threads about this but I can't find one with my exact circumstances. I have a sand filter with a paper cartridge filter downstream of it. I had the volcanic...

    Thanks Guys

It is full. I guess it's hard to tell from the picture, but on the liner where the dark blue ends and the light blue starts, that's the water level.

    Thanks Guys

    Chlorine Resistant Algae?

The pool is in full sun most of the day. I'm a little gun shy about adding cyanuric acid now. I'm adding a little at a time to try and sneak up on 40ppm. I threw away the di-chlor tablets I'd been using. I've been using liquid sodium hypochlorite 10% solution, keeping the FC between 3-5ppm and...

    Chlorine Resistant Algae?

Finished refilling. Post fill chemistry: FC: 4 CC: 0 pH: 7.8 TA:80 CYA: <30 (The K-2006 CYA test only goes down to 30. I can still clearly see the black dot at 30, so I don't really know what the CYA level is) As I write this, pool is is sparkling clear and beautiful. I will recheck the FC...

    Chlorine Resistant Algae?

Yes, I added a whole lotta drops. Tap water does have some chlorine in it so I didn't want to dilute with that and throw off the result. Distilled water is a good idea though. What I got so fed up with was even though the FC is at levels you probably don't want to swim in, the algae still...

    Chlorine Resistant Algae?

No, the CYA was 180 before I drained it. I haven't checked it yet because my pool is filling as I write this.

    Chlorine Resistant Algae?

I've gone and done the unthinkable; did a complete drain and refill of my AG pool in a drought area. I've had it fighting a constantly green pool. Especially when I don't fully understand why algae loves my pool so much. Here are my chemistry results while I had a green pool and before I...

Suction Side Pool Sweep Inadequate Water Flow

Just a quick update if anyone is interested. I completely disassembled my suction line and retaped all the threaded connections, sealed them with thread sealant and retightened as tight as I dared without cracking the plastic. I inspected and cleaned the o-rings from the two unions and...

Suction Side Pool Sweep Inadequate Water Flow

shoeboo, my cleaner came with an adapter for the skimmer as well, but when the flapper valve opens to allow more flow to the pump, the Barracuda gets robbed of the flow necessary to work the diaphragm and it stops moving. Yes Patrick, I was leery of changing the pump motor as well. The...

Suction Side Pool Sweep Inadequate Water Flow

I have a Barracuda Beta pool sweep running through the skimmer to a 1.5 HP pump. My problem is the Barracuda's diaphragm is so small it doesn't allow enough water flow to satisfy the pump requirements and so it cavitates and fills with air. I have three possible areas where a suction side air...
