    Order of chemical addition

Hi all Fallout from big rains: Salt - 2700 ppm TA - 50 ppm Cl - 5 ppm pH - 7.5 CYA - 30 CH - 220 CC - 0 So I need to bump salt, CYA and TA. Is there amy issue with adding baking soda, stabilizer and salt all at once??? Cheers all Tom

    Adding salt

Hi all Mid season, lots of rain, salt concentration has dropped to 2700 ppm. Going to add another bag of salt to bump it up. Do I need to turn the hayward SWG off for 24 hrs after I add the salt? Cheers Tom

Why Do I Find Sand in My Pool?

I find sand daily in the pool...does it come in from the returns? It is not copious amounts, but enough to make me notice it. Is there a way to determine whether it is coming from the sand filter, or simply kids and wind bringing it in?

Is 2 hours a day too little?

Pool is about 75K litres.... We have a single speed hayward 1/2 HP pump. Is 2 hours per day enough run time? Cheers Tom

Confused about DE - why, when, how?

I don’t really understand what DE is, what motivates pool owners to use it, and how I determine when to use it? It appears there are dedicated DE filters, but there also seems to be another group of DE users that simply add it to their skimmer so it gets trapped in the sand filter.

Sudden increase in pool water level

Hi all Looking for validation of mine, or new opinions of yours... We have winterized our pool - standard approach: drain water below jets, blow out lines, seal returns and supply, close equipment down (sand filter, pumps, etc.), and of course water balance. Once all done, we cover pool...

    Frog Log

Maybe it is just a coincidence, but as soon as I dropped a frog log on the side of the pool, dead critters were no longer found in the pool. In one week prior to purchasing,'I had multiple dead frogs, several mice and a chipmunk!! Aside from dropping a jug of bleach each time I found a mouse...

    High Phosphate reading...

High phosphate reading from pool store...279. I want an independent, but this is a local pool store, and their readings are reasonably trustworthy - I have compared their FC, CYA readings etc, with my own test results and they are typically in line with mine - so I have no reason to believe...

Robots and Wrinkles in my Vinyl Liner. Compatible?

Is this a no no? We got wrinkles in the liner this year - mentally I am already at a place where I doubt I can get them out. Who knows - maybe if the water table rises as high as it did this year, next year, then perhaps I will work on them....but...for this season, I will live with them...

Alternative approach to deep cleaning sand filter

So everything I do is per instructions, but instead of letting the water spill over the top of the filter, I bring the water to the brim of the stand pipe, and then shop vac the water out. I repeated this three times. The reason is the sand filter is inside out shed... Is three times enough...

    Sand filter questions

Hi all I read on a few websites that sand should be replaced every five to seven years...because the sand edges get worn down and won't trap solids and particulates as well. I don't think that passes the sniff teat, but wanted some thoughts from this group. Another question I have is about...

    Opened to wrinkles in liner

Any thoughts on how to fix wrinkles? One source said drain pool, another said partial drain and use a toilet plunger...a third source said to pump water to other side of pool, and float liner..that seems ludicrous to me, and could cause more damage. I am not sure where to start, but I really...

    Dealing with a wrinkled liner

So the good news is the liner has pretty much gone back to normal - we are filling the pool slowly, groundwater is receding and liner is back in place - we have one wrinkle on the bottom on the shallow end. The catch 22 is to get liner back into place, we need to raise pool water back to pre...

Opening pool - add water first?

I have a few questions related to our pool opening, but one thing that I find out there is some folks suggest adding water first to correct level, and other sources suggest cleaning, connecting plumbing, etc. first, then add pool water... I will post later about my floating liner!! Sent...

Pool still froze, but water level on tarp exceedingly high

As title says, the water is still quite frozen on our winter tarp. Due to the amount of snow we had this winter, and that we are about to get 40mm of rain in Ontario, the height of water on the tarp is dangerously close to the top of the pool. Aside from pumping water as soon as I can, am I...

Hi all I am at a bit of a loss with regards to mom's pool. She is only there 4 months of the year (she is a snowbird, as the saying goes). Her house down there has a pool inside a screened in area. She also has a pool company manage the pool. I get a sense from speaking to her that it is...

    Preparing for a big rain

Hi all Looking for some advice in advance of a big rain tomorrow - current weather report is saying anywhere from 25-60 mm of rain (1 - 2.5 in). I am concerned about the pool overflowing, as well as chlorine levels. Should I dose the pool with some chlorine ahead of the event? Should I...
