    AA treatment - First timer

I will do so. Should I wait until I pass the overnight FC test? I don't want the sequestrant to throw off my FC numbers.

    AA treatment - First timer

I have been adding sequestrant on a weekly basis. 16oz a week. Jacks purple stuff. Should I put more in now whole I'm trying to stabilize FC levels? Or wait until I pass overnight test? Glad there is some good news because I've been frustrated with the whole process.

    AA treatment - First timer

I raised the pool to 10ppm at 10am. Took solar cover off. Came home at 6pm to find the FC down to 6ppm and the staining returned badly. Stairs are all brown. I am truly at a loss for what next steps to take. I decided to raise the FC back to 10 and plan to leave filter on overnight. I feel...

    AA treatment - First timer

Thanks for the advise. I'm leaning toward the same conclusion. Will raise FC to 10 for the next two days and perform overnight loss test tomorrow.

    AA treatment - First timer

Thank you. I am using the 10 ml sample. I must say this has been the most difficult pool season for me. I still find it hard to keep FC is the pool. 3 Weeks after AA treatment. I keep pool cover during day (solar). Sun has been blazing in the mid 90's for the past week. Raised CYA levels last...

    AA treatment - First timer

Thank you chem geek. I have noticed cc drop to 0 at times over the last 7 days typically when pool was exposed to the sun. Have had the solar cover on for the past few days. Will remove it this morning and monitor levels. I replenished pool with jack purple 16oz on Sunday so that could be...

    AA treatment - First timer

I need some help! Today it has been a week since reintroducing bleach/SWG back to my pool after AA treatment. The FC has become more stable but not like normal. Starting on Sunday, I turned the SWG on 60% (normally it lives at 40%) for normal 8 hour cycle and have been turning the pump off at...

What is the most accurate way to test ph? I still use old color matching test. inaccurate in my opinion.

    AA treatment - First timer

Thank you. I've been using the swg in conjunction with bleach to keep the levels in check during this instability period. My ph is 7.2 and all is at 60. I'm going to leave them there.

    AA treatment - First timer

At what point can I begin using SWG back on? My normal FC level with SWG and CYA is 2. Keep filter running constantly until FC drop stops?

    AA treatment - First timer

It's been 5 days since reintroducing FC back into the pool. I've had the filter running constantly. Last night I decided to shut the filter and perform an overnight FC test. FC dropped from 2 to 1. There was .5 cc. I'm assuming there is still AA in the pool causing this instability. Normally I...

Checking and Maintaining Sequestrant Level - AA user

Being a victim of stains and having the need to perform the AA treatment, what methods are available for maintaining proper sequestrant levels? Test kits? I used Jack's purple stuff during AA treatment. They suggest 6-8oz per 10K gallon pool per week. For me, that translates to 2 32oz bottle a...

Ascorbic Treatment to rid Pool of metal stains

Thanks Jason. It's a bit frustrating because I want the FC to stick, but it continues to drop (more gradually now) and I continue to bring FC back up. I'm cautious not to bring it higher than 2. Would turning the SWG help at all at this stage? At least to maintain a FC level? *The kids are...

Jack's Purple vs Walmart's hth metal control

Has anyone tried using Walmart's HTH Metal Control as a cheaper sequestrant alternative to Jack's? I typically use Jack's Purple Stuff (Salt water). The cost ranges between $23 - $30. HTH is $12. Active ingredient: Hydroxyethylidene Diphosphonix Acid.

Ascorbic Treatment to rid Pool of metal stains

All my stains have lifted. I'm bringing FC level back up to normal 2 (SWG). The FC is constantly dropping due to AA still in pool. Should I continue to bring FC up to 2 until it holds? I'm checking every 30 min. Could this take days? Should filter be running 24/7 during this process?

    AA treatment - First timer

I am off from work this week and thought this would be a good time to perform the AA treatment. Been suffering staining for the 5 yrs I've owned the pool. Not sure the cause. Starting to think possibly 9 yr old heat pump refrig tubes. Not sure what they are made of. I have a 5lb bag of AA. I...

    CYA, TA, PH advice

Yes, I'm running the SWG. The solar cover has been on since yesterday afternoon (trying to warm it up for this afternoon). I did expose the raised return so the bubbles and air can escape. Guess aeration is the the key. I'll stick with it. Thanks for your advise.

    CYA, TA, PH advice

After testing my numbers today, it appears my PH is between 6.8 and 7.0. TA is 100. Like I said earlier, I have been aerating using the return jets for a couple days. I know it can take a while for aeration to work. Is it best to stick with the aeration method for raising the PH or should i...

    CYA, TA, PH advice

No rush to lower the TA just figured I'd get it a litte better since I opened the pool a few days ago. I'll add the remainder of the 4lbs i have left in my cya bucket and then pick up another bucket. The instructions say to mix the cya with warm water and then place in the skimmer. It is ok to...

    CYA, TA, PH advice

Here are my numbers: pH = 7.0 (aeration for 12 hours - pointing return jet upward to create bubbles) CYA = 0 (Test shows zero - 12 hours after adding 4 lbs of Leslie Conditioner). TA = 100 TC = 4 FC = 4 CC = 0 A few questions: 1) I would like to raise my Ph and lower TA. Is the best way to...

    Hayward 1.5hp Super Pump replacement

Jason - Why does the seal plate needs to be replaced with new motor? I spoke to a pool co. today when quoting out a price for a motor and they said a new plate is not required unless original is damaged. Gaskets, o-rings, shaft seal etc. would be changed. Should I not trust them?

    Hayward 1.5hp Super Pump replacement

Thanks Jason. I'll look into whisperflo and other 2-speed pumps. They are more costly than a single speed but in the long run it will save on energy costs. Should I be concerned with two speed pump running on low as it pertains to my polaris pool cleaner? I have a separate pump for the cleaner.

    Hayward 1.5hp Super Pump replacement

I've done very little work with the motor other than taking it apart to get the shaft to move after the bearings locked up. I'm not familiar with replacing the seal plate. I'll look into the 2 speed motor. My concern was the cost benefit of running the unit longer at a low speed vs. running it...
