    pH rising too fast

My pool is just over a year old and has always had a high acid demand, adding acid every other day would keep my pH balanced. I recently installed a SWG (IC40) and now I have to add acid everyday. I bring the pH level down to 7.2 and 36 hours later my pH will be 8.0+ (off the scale). Here are my...

    Pentair Power Center Installation

Do you guys know if I have to bond the Pentair Power Center to the same bonding wire that my pump and heater are on? I just finished installing the Power Center for my new IC40 and was confused about the "Earth Bonding" section, does that go to my pool bonding wire or to the copper earth rod...

    Cost Effective Salt System

After a year with my new pool, I'm now toying with the idea of switching to salt. All of my pool equipment is Pentair with the exception of my Intermatic mechanical timer (T21004R). I don't use the timer in the Intermatic, it's really only being used as a power distribution panel since my...

What is this and how can I get rid of it?

Can someone help identify the white spots/streaks in my pool and how I can go about removing them? The pool is only a year old and I do a pretty good job at keeping everything balanced. The two issues I do have is PH always raising (I have to add acid every other day) and the fact that I have...

    Pool heater shutoff?

If I'm heating up my pool and my pump timer ends, should the pool heater automatically shutoff? If so, should it be an automatic hard shutoff? When my pump stops running, my heater keeps going. Eventually the thermostat gets to the set point which turns it off, i'm guessing since there's no...

    Testing/Balancing Pool+Spa Combo

For those of you who have pool and spa combos, do you test and balance each body of water separately? I've only been testing and balancing my pool water but I do have the pool water circulating through the spa. I'm wondering if that's sufficient.

    HELP! New Plaster Issue?

My new pool was just plastered this morning and is currently being filled. Should I be concerned about the pictures below? It appears that little clunks of plaster is falling all around the pool. Almost looks like a bunch of little tablets. Is this normal? I'm afraid it's going to permanently...

    Gas Lines

My PB ran a 1.5" underground gas line between my gas meter and pool equipment. However, he reduced it to 3/4" on both ends to tap into the meter and pool heater. Is that normal practice? Would the short 3/4" run between the meter and the 1.5" line cause a bottle neck? Thanks!

    Flagstone Coping

I'm still on the fence on which coping style I want for my pool. My contract includes flagstone coping, my PB gave me a sample of "Red Mountain" and "Bouquet Canyon" flagstone to check out. Any thoughts on the quality of these stones? I have concerns that the coping edge will be sharp and...

    Who levels pool during build?

I'm curious, who is suppose to level the pool during the build process? I can't imagine the steel guys setting the rebar perfectly level. Is it safe to assume that the gunite guys do the final level when they're troweling the pool? Should I expect the pool shell to be perfectly level after...

    Light Niche Compatibility

Are light niches standard for the most part? I ask because my PB installed a Pentair Large Plastic Niche (P/N: 79206700) for the pool but used a Jandy Small Plastic Niche (P/N: PLNICSM) in the spa. The PB is providing a Pentair Amerlite for the pool and a Pentair SpaBrite for the spa. I assume...

    Pentair IntelliBrite Controller

I'm getting a pair of Pentair color LED lights installed in my new pool+spa and trying to decide of the IntelliBrite controller is worth the $200. For those of you that do have it, can you set different colors for each light? For those without the controller, do you wish you had it? Thanks!

    Main Drain Plumbing

Should I be worried that my PB ran the main drain suction pipe to the skimmer, then from the skimmer to the pump? Is there a significant advantage to running dedicated pipes for both the skimmer and main drains directly to the pump?

New Pool Build In Los Angeles

My PB just finished digging out our very first pool! It's a 30x20 free form play pool with a 7' spa. We're on a budget so we're keeping it simple, flagstone coping and french gray plaster. The equipment will all be Pentair, IntelliFlow VS Pump, 420 Cartridge Filter, and Master Temp 400 gas...

    Equipment Location (setback)

Hello All, does anyone have experience with building a pool in the City of Los Angeles? I'm trying to figure out what the rules/limitations are, if any, around equipment location and property line setbacks. Ideally, I'd like to place my pool equipment in my back corner, right up against the...

    Pump Selection

Hello, I'm in the process of designing and choosing a PB to build my first pool. It will be a basic 15x30 concrete pool without a spa. From the research I've done online, it appears that a variable speed pump is the way to go, for both reliability and energy saving reasons. I've had 4 PB come...
