Getting back into our ABG - picked the wrong time

Yeah - I thought about settling. But $750-900 for a 15-Mil liner. We are thinking real hard about not re-starting this year instead of massively over-paying for something that will not last. I wonder in the fall, if the liner supply will normalize. We can build then - just won't be...

Getting back into our ABG - picked the wrong time

We had a salt-water ABG for about 10 years. The walls rusted out and one of my daughters kicked a bulge into the wall. We decided it was time to take down. It has been a lot longer to get a replacement up than planned. We bought a used resin pool (metal wall). It took some time to...

    SWG Corroded out Metal Pool

No, the pool was a couple of years old when we bought it. I believe it was previousl y a Baquapure pool. But we put in a new liner, new gaskets etc. I didn't think we would have to go with a composite pool. But then I read all the threads about needing stainless steel fittings, and pump...

    SWG Corroded out Metal Pool

We have a 24' above-ground metal pool. Had a SWG about 5 years now. Love the water and want to keep the salt as one of my kids has severe eczema and this is so much better for her than chlorine. But - the pool is a rusty mess. The top galvanized rail (under the plastic rail) is pretty...

Has anyone had problems with corrosion using SWG on AG Pool?

Re: Has anyone had problems with corrosion using SWG on AG P I've actually got a lot of corrosion on mine. We've had it almost 5 years, and for the past couple of years, the metal top rim/rail under the plastic ledge has been corroding heavily and flaking off steadily. Every time I vacuum...

Question I should know the answer to, but I don't.....

Can you use an inground pump for an above-ground pool? What is the difference?

    Any ponders out there?

Ok, Just stumbled across the photos of your pond/pool. WOW! Got a couple of ideas once I saw it. Still think you need to separate the drain and skimmer. Close off old bottom drain if there is not way to get to its pipes. Put in a retro-bottom drain and run the pipe over the edge on...

    Second hand deck project

That looks great! Glad to see I'm not the only one that uses second hand decks. I bought a 16' x 16' deck and a 15' x 18' deck off Craigslist for a combined $300. I've disassembled them and now am getting ready to start on my deck. 2" x 6" deck boards are usually still pretty good - clean...

    Any ponders out there?

Since it looks like we can post links to other forums. One I find helpful is http://www.koishack.com. Go to the pond construction sub-forum and stickied at the top is a bunch of DIY projects like filters, etc. Several are made from barrels. It is a forum populated by both people who buy...

    Any ponders out there?

Just saw this post. I have a a couple of ponds up and running. One has 14 koi ranging from about 10" up to about 26". The other is my Q-tank which I just finished so my 2 new koi can be quaratined for a few months. Working on another pond in my non-existant spare time. You have a 5k...

Is there any way to make a shallow end in an above-ground?

Thanks for the replies - I think this weekend, I will poke around in the stores and see if I can find a plastic table that will work. If not - I like the PVC idea also. hlemon - saw your thread on beach steps after I posted this one.

Is there any way to make a shallow end in an above-ground?

We have a 24' above ground. 54" deep. Our daughters are 3 & 5 and are mildy vertically-challenged. So while inthe pool, they live on floats, rings, noodles etc since they can't touch bottom. We went camping about 3 weeks ago and our daughter got to wade around in the lake and loved...

    Question about top rail

That deck is huge! It looks like it takes up practically your whole yard. I like the work around the pump and filter - m akes a very clean installation. Your supporting wood looks thicker that our wood - is it rough cut? I also like the grooved decking.

    Question about top rail

Calvin, Thanks for the pics. It looks great. I am going to show my wife these tonight for approval - with the deck under the top rail. I also am thinking about stealing your design for rail. I like that a lot.

    Question about top rail

I'm glad I threw this question out there, a lot of things I hadn't considered! Like access to remove the top rail later, Or the need for space for a cover. (not a winter cover, but a leaf net) The design we are going with is probably (always subject to change) similar to this...

    Question about top rail

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. But like I said a lot of the deck plans seem to have the deck go up under the top rail. So I thought maybe they are designed to bear weight. I think I will just extend my decking for six inches or so to cover the rail. I'm using 2" x 6" -...

Can you reuse sand in filter?

We have a 24' round above ground. 26" sand filter with a 3/4 hp two speed pump. And a salt-water generator. When we don't use the pool for a week or so - it gets really clear but a fine dust? settles on the bottom. Then when we go swimming, it gets all stirred up and gets cloudy...

    Question about top rail

We have a 24' above ground pool for about 2 years now. Just getting around to designing deck for it and had a question. Is the top rail of the pool able to support weight of a person? Or should I cantilever the deck six inches over so it's even with the inside of the top rail? I've...

    Pool Cleaning

Because I'm lazy and was trying to get out of that. :-D I was looking at the cheapo manual vacs at lowes the other day - or they any worse/better than any of the other ones out there?

    Pool Cleaning

We have a 24' above ground pool. When we bought it (used) it came with a Manta suction-side cleaner. It does a moderately acceptable job. But it requires monitoring when it is running because at various times it has suctioned up the side of the pool to the top and started inhaling air...

    What have I done wrong?

No - I am using pool sand. Bought it at Martel's in Houston before they closed. Is there any way to find out about cracked lateral without dumping my sand filter? This all seemed to start when I replaced my old 2 1/2 hp pump with new 3/4 hp. It seem like a 3/4 hp would be better on...

    Confused

That seems like a tremendous amount of salt - as much rain as we've had this year and the amount of other troubles with my pool, at least the salt level hasn't been a problem. I have only added 3 bags since last August. How salty does your water taste?

    What have I done wrong?

OK a bit of an update here - a month or so later... free chlorine 6 - high - shocked recently. I also dialed down SWG after this. totll chlorine 6 pH 7.2 - low side but OK T/A 80 - low side but OK CH 130 low CYA 60 low but close to OK temp 91 - to hot salt 3200 high end of OK for my...

    What have I done wrong?

Thanks - the more you post - the more you are describing my pool. In addition to the absurd amounts of rain in June and July that initially threw my water chemistry off, we have been absolutely baking for the last 10 days or so - now the ground is so dry and cracked that pets and small...

    What have I done wrong?

I use a salt-water generator - super chlorinate setting is my "shock" setting. I was just going to add some bleach because JasonLIon suggested it would get my chlorine levels up quickly - gives the SWG time to generate. About the only thing I buy at the pool store is the cyanuric acid.

    What have I done wrong?

Thanks for the reply. Dumb question - how much algae is there (like on the walls) if you don't see it. I know there is a biofilm on everything - but is there always a certain amount that is there waiting for parameters to get off so it can multiply? Thinking out loud - here - in June and...

    What have I done wrong?

Finally getting back with numbers - sorry for the delay. Between work and kids and a wife recovering from surgery - the pool has taken a back seat. I've only had the small cheapo test kit from the pool store - but free chorine and combined chlorine are both above 3.0 (highest on test kit)...

    What have I done wrong?

Have an ABG pool. 24' diameter, 14,000 gallons vinyl liner. I use a aquatrol swg on it and a 26" sand filter. 1 1/2" piping all around. About a month ago I switched out my pump. It was an 2 1/2 hp unknown 2 speed brand that was beginning to make horrible noises. I boutht an...

    Questions about 2-speed pump

Has anybody ever used AquaFlo pumps? I found the following: http://www.pumpwarehouse.com/aquaflo.htm performance curves. I was looking at the 3/4 HP FMHP - at 30 ft. of head in puts out a little more than 70gpm and and 35 ft - 65 gpm. If I cut that in half for running at low speed - I'm...
