    Warranty on Quartzscapes Plaster?

As an FYI, I recently had a pool installed with NPT StoneScape mini-pebble and the manufacturer provides a Limited Lifetime Warranty when installed through a manufacturer-certified plaster company. The warranty requires keeping a monthly water test print-out to ensure any issues encountered...

    Sealing natural stone

Each time I applied Dry Treat, kept going until the rock wouldn't soak up more. Apply a coat, move on to other stones, come back in about 10~15 minutes, apply more, return to other stones, come back in about 30~45 minutes, apply more. When it starts to pool on the surface and no longer is...

Water feature pump on main drain or skimmer?

I have a new pool with two pumps, one to run the filter and the other to run the water features. The PB didn't provide a dedicated suction line from the pool for the water features. The water features are a set of sheers and a bubbler on the tanning ledge. Looking for an answer to sharing...

Pool, Spa & Kitchen Build - Houston, Texas Excavation Date 3-23-15

If I were doing it all over again, I'd ask for steps with no more than an 8-inch riser. My pool has 12-inch risers, which are very steep. I can't imagine small children or seniors easily navigating the steps. I'd also ask for a step in the spa, as the distance from the coping to the bench in...

    Equipment pad layout question

Updated layout shown in the below diagram. As with the shared heater layout from Pool Center, this layout could be trouble in a scenario where an actuator fails, but I don't see the risk as any higher in this layout versus the Pool Center layout. If this layout is still "best not to do" please...

    coping choices

If you go with a natural stone product, I recommend sealing it, regardless of using a SWCG or not. Concrete products are generally more durable than natural stone, but may not give you the same look or match the surrounding design. If you don't have a need to match stone in the design, go with...

    Coping stone selection....does it matter

I would contact the source that you identified (San Antonio or directly to the quarry in Idaho) for this specific stone and research options for transportation to your job site. Ask your local pool bidders to price the stone if they can obtain a source, as they may surprise you with other...

Oklahoma Flagstone Coping concern and ?

We have a new pool with OK flagstone coping in the Austin, TX area. I sealed the stone first with Dry-Treat 40SK, waited a month, and then went on top of that with StoneTech Enhancer Pro. Dry-Treat is both a sealer and consolidator that penetrates into the stone and fills the microscopic...

    Drain pipes for landscape

Landscaping drains don't normally carry water under force from a pump. The black flex pipes used for landscaping can be joined in a variety of ways. If the tape degrades in time and water leaks, it's only a bit of rain water that should escape. Landscape drain lines are generally used to move...

    Equipment pad layout question

Thanks for the link to Pool Center schematics page. This diagram from the Pool Center schematics page has a lot in common with option 1 in this thread, as there are two pumps, shared heater, with multiple check valves preventing the two pumps from conflict. What about option 1 won't work...

    Equipment pad layout question

I'm looking for a review of this proposed pool equipment layout. Prefer to have two pumps, ensuring we can enjoy the water features in the pool while the spa is running. The first layout shows two pumps with three possible operating modes, with actuators that would flip the 2-port valve...

Thickness of Shotcrete and Rebar Size and Placement

Re: Should there always be gravel between the shotcrete and the ground? Highly recommend the use of gravel below the pool, as this will provide a path for ground water to pass, and during construction will help keep the rebar from getting covered in mud in the event it rains before the...

How long to heat my pool?

Any idea how long it will take to heat a 16K gallon pool with a 400,000 BTU gas heater? How long to increase from a water temp of 53 F to 83 F (+30 degrees)?

    Warranty on Quartzscapes Plaster?

The longevity of pool surface products (e.g. plaster, quartz, pebble) is highly dependent upon water chemistry (if you neglect to maintain the pH and other factors, the finish will deteriorate quickly). Some plasterers will provide a several year warranty on the bond, ensuring the material is...

    Replacing water line tile question

Tyler, How large is the pool and spa that you're looking to re-plaster? Linear feet measured around the pool, or approximate LxWxD will help. Thanks!

How many TFP members are going with saltwater?

Concrete, brick, ceramic and glass will fair much better against salt and water versus many types of natural stone. Slate, sandstone, limestone and other soft stones are especially vulnerable to damage from salt. There are many options for concrete coping materials - precast molded concrete...

    Sealing natural stone

Yes, I'm using DryTreat 40SK sealer with OK flagstone coping. Thus far, it works as advertised with water beading on the surface and not soaking in. This is a new install, so I'll be able to provide a recommendation after more time passes... Note, the stone absorbs a LOT of sealer. I'm more...

New IG Pool Construction - Austin, TX Area - Pics inside

Re: New IG Pool Construction - Austin, TX Area Please keep the photos coming! The design is interesting. Yes, the mess in the yard was much more stress than end-date, given the time we have until swim season. At what temperature can the plastering still be done? I'm looking for a good...

    properly sealing decking material, travertine

I'm no expert, not employed in the trades... but I would seal the stone sooner rather than later. Let the cement/grout cure, and then apply the sealer, based on the directions from the manufacturer. Thus far, every sealer manufacturer I've called on the phone or emailed was quick to answer...

    properly sealing decking material, travertine

Travertine, limestone and other natural stone surfaces tend to be porous and are subject to negative effects from spilled drinks, freeze/thaw, mold/fungus, etc. If the stone is of the harder types and polished to a glossy finish, especially if the pores are filled with epoxy, it may be more...

How many TFP members are going with saltwater?

Nearing the finish line with a new pool here and will use a SWG with Oklahoma Flagstone coping and a stone waterfall from the spa into the pool. In hindsight, I would've gone with a manmade masonry product to reduce the risk from salt. PB wasn't very informative, or maybe I simply missed the...

    Can this be stopped?

After the hole for pool was first excavated, it rained hard and the hole with rebar framing filled with muddy water - about five feet deep - and didn't lower naturally for more than a week. The hole didn't drain until manually pumped out. The gunite was then installed that same day the water...

    Can this be stopped?

Photos for the efflorescence / seepage attached. One photo shows the white build-up leaching from the bottom step and from around one of the pipes. The other photo shows the build-up along the wall in spots near the bench, and lots of still-wet leaking around from around the light fixture...

    Can this be stopped?

Will efflorescence coming through the gunite stop when the pool has plaster and water added? Can anything be applied to the gunite to stop the efflorescence from leaching through, where this sealer won't negatively affect adding plaster? Something like RadonSeal or DryTreat 40SK?
