What did you do to your pool today?

Relaxed in my pool after a weeks vacation at south padre island. I see pool snob on my horizon. First thought walking past the hotel pool on the way to beach...ain’t getting in that thing. Now it did have about 50 people it at 5 pm. Water looked horrible. But how am I going to keep my son out...

Do snakes give birth in pools? Eeek

Lol. I live on 3 acres...sort of in the country. My 4 foot fence keeps my dogs in and other dogs out...but that is about it. I have a laundry list of animals that have made it into the yard and met my dog.

Do snakes give birth in pools? Eeek

Anytime some one tells me "nice pool," I reply "no that is a $40.000 scorpion trap."

Anyone know what the problem is?

Possibly too much sun?? I have mine on north side of 2 story house and are in shade almost all day - just some morning sun. Mine have really dark leaves. In mid summer, some of the outer leaves get some mid day sun and the ones farthest west get some late day sun...and they are not happy...

1st pool all kinds of questions!

It will raise pH and have no effect on TA. Adding muriatic acid to lower pH down to 7.2 will start lowering the TA. You need a decent swing in high to low to get the TA to drop. And 7.8 to 7.2 is safe. Honestly, I rarely even measure TA. Mine stuck at 7.8 for almost a year. Every once in awhile...

1st pool all kinds of questions!

Not a big concern. Lower pH to 7.2, let it rise back to 7.8, lower it again to 7.2, and repeat. Overtime, you should see the TA go down. Some people will try to aerate the pool to allow the rise to go quicker. I just let it go naturally. In the last 2 months I lowered mine from 120 to 80 - a...

    High Calcium Hardness

You can manage the pool with CH of 500+. Pay close attention to the CSI index. Try to keep between 0 and -.30 and you should be in great shape.

1st pool all kinds of questions!

How far is this pool store from the house? Once she sees you testing and telling her how great the water is, maybe the drive will become less important...especially if the pool store is using the same reagent tests as you. BTW, this thread is kind of fascinating. Advice on pool chemistry...

    Help with levels...

The drop test is probably somewhat better than the aquacheck strips...but not enough to switch. Probably the only strips recommended by TFP. Update: I misread post and assumed low salt. So I killed my original suggestion. Are the test strips purchased this summer?

Yes, your suspicion is what I referenced. Probably should only be one normal. Mine is 18. Last year when I saw 14, I thought that is weird. Turned the pump off and it only dropped to 10. Obvious issue with that gauge.

Caco, already answered must of the questions and I 2nd what he noted. I am not familiar with what precautions you need to take with a painted gunite pool. Not sure if the process is paint over the plaster or over the "concrete." Hopefully, some will have some good advice for that. But the...

Not saying the pool guy is wrong, but reading through the thread, you might have had a faulty gauge. Since you were not seeing a pressure rise after adding DE, a reading of 6 - in hindsight these might be signs the gauge was bad. And a faulty gauge while adding DE to the filter, sounds like that...

Need recommendation and second opinion on chemicals for freshly filled pool.

Chlorine is your friend. It is the only thing you are going to add to the pool to sanitize the water and to make it safe for you, family and friends to swim in it. Your pH could be 6.6 or 8.4 and it is still safe to swim - your eyes might feel like there burning because your tears are closer to...

Need recommendation and second opinion on chemicals for freshly filled pool.

You are dumping the chemicals in a 30k gallon body of water. You could pour 3 gallons of bleach in that pool and it might raise your FC to 10 - which is perfectly safe if you have have some CYA in it. Pour 3 gallons in an empty bath tub and sit in it - might have some health issues. Pour a...

And yes you could have added all those products day 1 - not really sure about the stuff to raise TA, though. Get some chlorine in there 2-3 FC for now. Your fill water had 0 CYA so you know that is accurate, you can use pool math to determine how much to add to raise it to 30. Was your pool...

Need recommendation and second opinion on chemicals for freshly filled pool.

You do need the same chemicals for the pools. Calcium hardness to raise CH - when needed. Startup is most likely one of those times. Since you do not have a test kit, you could go with 50 and use Pool Math to raise it to 300-350. Where you live, probably the last time you will ever need it...

    Totally Overwhelmed

Welcome to TFP! You have some great people helping you out, so I will stay out of that. However, I did notice you ordered a K2006 kit. That is a great kit, but I fortunately you may not have much r0871 reagent after your SLAM. So now would be a good time to think about ordering some. Check out...

Why is Yellow Out or Yellow Trine Harmful to your pool?

Hopefully one of the moderators who have posted will contact the people with high CH to answer your questions. One piece of advice they will reiterated is lower your pH to 7.2 (might be lower in your situation), let it rise to 7.8 (right now you may want to target 7.6 to prevent more scaling)...

Why is Yellow Out or Yellow Trine Harmful to your pool?

I will comment on the scaling. There are several people at TFP with much higher CH than 825. I think you can control future scaling by diligently maintaining your pH in the 7.2 to 7.5 range. As you drain off the water, and lower that CH (going to be slow if your fill water is high), your range...
