    1.5 or 1 HP pump?

OK next question... I'm looking at a new filter too. Whats the advantage of DE vs sand? We were thinking of moving to a salt water pool, I thought maybe the pool would stay clearer for cheaper if I could keep it balanced better- but now Im thinking I just need a new filter. The one on it is...

    1.5 or 1 HP pump?

single speed Hayward 1.5 hp pump died... now were replacing it... should I get a 1.5 dual speed or can I get a 1HP? Do I need a dual speed if I already have a booster pump for our Polaris? I know they save money- just not sure if dual speed will interfere with the booster Looking at getting a...

Changing to salt water... can I use my same pump?

A two speed for your situation would be fine. At low speed it will be fine to circulate your pool. What do you use to clean the pool? Robot, suction or pressure side cleaner? Just saw this.. we have a polaris 380 So I need to set up the high speed on the pump with the Polaris timer then set up...

Changing to salt water... can I use my same pump?

OK thanks! Hayward make a reliable variable or 2 speed that reasonable? We've just been using those because that what was on there, but IM open to suggestions.

Oh and can you use a variable or a two speed with a timer?

Changing to salt water... can I use my same pump?

OK I did read that you should get a system twice the size of your pool to reduce electric consumption. So I need a two speed pump? I typically run the pump 12 hrs a day in the summer pools DIRECTLY in the sun which is great but algae is always lurking. I guess I need to read up on variable or...

Changing to salt water... can I use my same pump?

SUPER!! Now how should I start investigating what salt system is best for our pool? Are there articles on TFP? AS I said we're doing it ourselves. My hubby is very handy by trade. Im looking to keep it around 1500-2000 if possible. It just seems kind of daunting. Is there a pool school for...

Changing to salt water... can I use my same pump?

I'll try to make this short... our hayward pump died, and this winter we were planning on changing over to salt water when we had a bit more time. In the mean time we NEED a pump before we have a swamp! Im already going to have to SLAM it im sure. My question is..If I replace my Hayward SP 1.5...

    General CYA question

Should I keep my CYA on the higher side, its at 40 now, if my pool is in the sun ALL day? Or is the CYA number just relative to were you want to keep your chlorine number? I had CYA at 40 last year and it seemed like the 4 chlorine read didn't keep the algae away. I had to keep my chlorine at...

Hubby added cal hypo now water is cloudy

Yes, I was in the middle of slamming pool..we had the start of algae issues..... had to leave for a day... bad timing... thats when hubby took over and used the cal hypo instead of bleach as I instructed. hence my question... should I just let the milky go away first, before I start the slamming...

Hubby added cal hypo now water is cloudy

Sorry--- yes I meant FC of 10 and the CH is 180. The CYA is 50- My pool is in full sun all day no trees. I thought I read that was a good number? Im using the Lesley pool kit you all recommend for the PH, TA, CH, and CYA. I use a more specific test kit for the FC- I believe its a more...

Hubby added cal hypo now water is cloudy

I was away and DH thought he would help by adding cal hypo to shock the pool. I've returned and the water is milky blue- I think he added some clarifier- but he wont admit it :p So heres my readings" PH: 7.2 TA:100 CH: 10-- Cal: 180- I know this is low but I am adding a little calcium at a...

Can I add a booster to polaris 360?

    You like the 280 better than the 360? Is it good for big pools? - - - Updated - - - I'll try I know I have a picture in an old post, for another question. - - - Updated - - -

Can I add a booster to polaris 360?

Typically how would you do that... divert more flow? Close off valves? Sorry to be such a dolt.

Can I add a booster to polaris 360?

UGG... I was hoping you wouldn't say that. So I should just use a 360 even if its slow? I looked at a Dolphin "robot' but the sides of our pool are too steep and it couldn't make it up- had a hard time getting out of the deep end too. I borrowed a friends to see how it would work. suggestion?

Can I add a booster to polaris 360?

Greetings! After a long battle with algae last summer, thank you pool store for not telling me about the CYA in the tabs!!!.... I have found you all and very happy with results. Now we are looking to buy a cleaner. I see the Polaris 360 does not need a booster pump, can one be added later if we...

Part way thru slamming water still cloudy but CC is 0

Thanks... any idea where I can get a fitting that is tapped for a gauge? Would it just be a "basic" pressure gage like they sell on the TF test kits site? What should the pressure reach before I back wash?

Part way thru slamming water still cloudy but CC is 0

In the past I backwash when I think I've vacuumed up "a lot" of dead algae-maybe a few teims in the summer?- a lot more receintly as I've been trying to get this algea under control. OK I'll check back- thanks for your help. I think a new filter would help a lot- just not in the budget right now.

Part way thru slamming water still cloudy but CC is 0

Yes its a dinosaur- the book that we found in the pump house had women with bee hive hair do's lounging on rafts!! My concern is how much DE to add, I don't have any way to read the pressure on the filter. How often should I add it?

Part way thru slamming water still cloudy but CC is 0

OK I'll try the test tonight. I did not realize you could hve a zero cc and still have something consuming chlorine. If I add the DE to the sand filter will that cause any issue with back washing? My filter is VERY old and all I can do it backwash water. I tried to attaché a picture but not...

Part way thru slamming water still cloudy but CC is 0

I'm part way thru slamming my pool - it was cloudy because of too much CYA from what I can figure. The CYA was at 180 and I've gotten it down to70- I know that's high but I couldn't drain the pool any more for fear of drying out the new Gunite. So I started with a CYA of 70 and reading the CYA...

    Add chemicals or drain first?

yes, totally... thanks so much- I was thinking it was the filter. Honestly I was saying ,what could these guys know the pool store doesn't..... then I saw what my pool store guy drives...lol

    Add chemicals or drain first?

Ohhhhhhh... now I see OK so I'm at 180 I will plug that into the pool math board. Then I should.. Take care of the CYA then slam the pool then add calcium?

    Add chemicals or drain first?

OK I tested it by diluting and then just as the test on you tube says... looks like its at 100. When I do the diluted test it says 90... test as shown on you tube it comes up at 100. I believe you said there was a 10-15 PPM + or minus. So should I go with a 100 or a 90 CYA in the pool math?
