Anyone had trouble with Salt Solutions replacement cells lately?

OEM lasted two seasons. After that I got 3 seasons out of a PureLine generic replacement. Hence I have not had experience that makes me believe in the mystique of OEM cells. I mean, give me a break. If I felt confident a $900 Hayward cell would last significantly longer I wouldn't even question it.

Anyone had trouble with Salt Solutions replacement cells lately?

I take issue with your first comment. In my original post I stated very clearly that, in my assessment, the "data" available here does not necessarily support the notion that Hayward cells are significantly longer lasting. I can think of one user off-hand who posted a timeline of his...

Anyone had trouble with Salt Solutions replacement cells lately?

I don't feel I have been anything less than polite. The "banter" here generally leans toward a bunch of know-it-alls interrogating the person who posted about their water chemistry and giving lectures about things with which they lack direct experience and with no data to back it up. The more...

Anyone had trouble with Salt Solutions replacement cells lately?

As a barometer of whether this is a common occurrence over this period of time, or whether I am just unlucky, or perhaps I need to dig deeper into the root cause of the short lifespan, in case it is something about my equipment or environment. If there is reason to think Salt Solutions has had...

Anyone had trouble with Salt Solutions replacement cells lately?

This is the most useless and uninformative reply ever, and I've seen that you've posted it numerous times. Please stop. It is not helpful because it does not quantify what you mean by "generic", and it gives the impression you have no direct experience.

Anyone had trouble with Salt Solutions replacement cells lately?

After spending hours digging through recent and older posts, I've come to the conclusion recent build Hayward cells are not worth the huge price premium. I see too many users getting only a couple of seasons out of them, which I have gotten from other generic cells prior to my recent experience...

Anyone had trouble with Salt Solutions replacement cells lately?

I bought a Salt Solutions T-15 replacement in June, 2021. It lasted about 4 months of actual use. (Removed for winter.) They replaced it under warranty. Second one lasted about 6 months and appears to be failing again. I haven't called them yet to find out if it is still under warranty. Since...

    Bestway AGP with Pureline 60k

I would only run the pump as long as it takes to keep the water clear, then adjust SWG percentage accordingly to maintain desired FC.

3 day deep freeze, how to protect the pool

It was -7 in Piedmont, OK when I got up this morning. So far, so good. Pump is running with a halogen light shining on it under a tarp. Pool surface is frozen but the skimmers haven't frozen at all, not even the surface. One more really cold night and then we begin inching up. It's supposed to...

    Another freezing question - Oklahoma

This is a very unusually cold spell for OK, which is why you see all of us freaking out a little bit. It rarely gets very far below 20 and usually not for more than a couple days. You may never see temps this cold here again. My pump has been running the whole time. There's about 3/4" of ice on...

3 day deep freeze, how to protect the pool

I'm in OKC as well. I'll have to hit up Tractor Supply in the morning and see about a chicken coop warmer. In a pinch a halogen work light works pretty well too but you have to be careful to keep any tarps away from the surface.

    Recommendations on pool cleaners

Personally I would look for a used robotic cleaner. Suction side cleaners aren't worth the hassle. I'd rather just vacuum it myself. I have a Dolphin S200 and it was the best investment we've made, but it's significantly out of your price range. Works great on debris like leaves and pine...

Does running pump wear cell even when not producing?

I did not get scammed. My cell was actually sold to me branded as CompuPool. I believe at the time they still had a presence and working phone number in the U.S. They have not avoided me, and I am not accusing them of ripping me off. They're just slow moving like many cut-rate organizations...

Does running pump wear cell even when not producing?

Well, I finally got frustrated with the slow communication from saltpoolstore{dot}com and decided to replace the whole thing. For better or worse, I ordered a PureLine 40K system from Inyo Pools. Feedback here seems to be generally good and replacement cells should be plentiful and affordable. I...

Does running pump wear cell even when not producing?

Correct, I don't have a way at the moment to turn the SWG off at the same time as the pump. I want them on a common controller so I can be absolutely certain the SWG will never be on without the pump running. I'm building a custom solution that integrates with my home automation controller, just...

My Hayward SWG has crapped out. Pool store recommended something else

I will never go back from SWG. The problem for me with all the other methods of chlorination is keeping up with it. When I get sidetracked because of work or kids' events or whatever, I don't want to have to worry I forgot to add chlorine. Ever since I got the SWG I've never fallen behind and...

Does running pump wear cell even when not producing?

I'm on my 3rd season with a Jandy AquaPure 1400 in a 22K gallon vinyl pool. Water chemistry is in line with Pool School recommendations for SWG. Original cell lasted 2 seasons. Compupool replacement cell only lasted 1 season. I see a other Jandy owners get much longer life from their cells. I...

    My friends think I'm nuts...

All my friends just shrug it off as me being a nerd and a little OCD. For me the TFPC method is almost a necessity. I live about 20 minutes from the nearest pool store and it's not along any of my commuting routes. Being reliant on the pool store to test my water was never an option. It's...

    Thank you!

Yeah, that was pretty bad. On TV they were showing gusts of 100+ on radar down your way if I remember right. We lucked out and all the really strong winds went north and south of us. Unfortunately the 30-40 MPH sustained winds from most of the previous week really did a number on my roof.

Opened my pool after doing TFPC last year......

Congrats! I'm feeling the love too. Last year was my first full season using the TFP method and I also had nice clean water upon removing the cover. The only troubling part was my FC was 0. A little bit of debris made it past my safety cover because of the ferocious winds we get out here on the...

    Thank you!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributes to the forum. I rarely post because nearly all my questions as a relatively new pool owner have already been answered. I'm opening the pool for my third season (second full season since completion). When the pool was first started I...

Solar reel strap plates don't snap together

I'm setting up a Horizon Elite HV-10 solar reel. According to the instructions, the two halves of the strap plate should snap together. I can't get them to snap. Even off the cover, with nothing in-between to get in the way, they don't seem to fit together tightly enough to snap and stay...

New pool, good water test, do I really need to shock?

The tabs are in it, but the valve is turned completely off right now.

New pool, good water test, do I really need to shock?

Alright, I tried out the Taylor test kit for the first time. I did each test at least twice to make sure I counted the drops correctly, etc. FC = 5.6 CC = ~0.2 (closer to .2 than .4) pH = 7.4 CYA = ~45 TA = 130 On the FC... I took the sample that went to the pool store at 7:00 AM, but it...

New pool, good water test, do I really need to shock?

Thanks for the clarification.. I wondered if a "not" was missing. The ozonator was a gimme that I didn't really care about. Honestly I haven't been running it most of the time because of what I've read here. However, I was tempted to run it for a while and see if it brought down the CC. That...

New pool, good water test, do I really need to shock?

I'm confused.. my CC is below .5 (currently .28). Are you saying this particular test indicates I should go ahead and shock? Or are you saying you would only shock when a water test indicates it is necessary (e.g. CC is above .5)?

New pool, good water test, do I really need to shock?

Thanks for the replies and encouragement. I'm a huge nerd, as my wife will attest, so I always go nuts analyzing and researching stuff. I'm "that guy" who reads the owner's manual from front to back every time I buy a car. Good to know that CYA does not evaporate. Knucklehead...

New pool, good water test, do I really need to shock?

Those were their numbers using a WaterLink DataMate 10. My Taylor K2006 test kit came yesterday. I plan on doing my own test tonight or tomorrow to see how they line up. I've looked at a number of articles here on the site and nothing gave me the impression that a CYA of 44 was close to the...

New pool, good water test, do I really need to shock?

We are on week 3 after opening our new vinyl pool. In order to keep in good standing on the warranty from the pool builder, I've been having them test my water weekly and following their recommendations. Week 1 - Added 2 gallons muriatic acid, 2.5 pounds of shock powder Week 2 - 2 more gallons...
