    Had a new liner installed.

My pool is 14 years old. I inherited it from the previous owner. There were several pot holes in the bottom and the liner was badly faded but I used the pool for 4 years without any issues. I finally caved in and had a pool company replace the liner. Here is a before and after.

    Filter types

I own a 13 year old Hayward 244T sand filter. I changed the sand shortly after buying the house and the multiport valve. I wanted to start fresh. My pool is always super sparkly clean night or day. Now I have heard that people say DE is even better and cartridge filters are the best or it could...

Debunking some myths or am I wrong?

So this is my 4th year with the pool. First year I thought I would fill it in and then I found TFP. My main chlorinator is 10% liquid shock from Ollies Bargain Outlet. Now, I know everybody will say SLAM with bleach but does that not become ridiculously long process for a 20k gallon pool that...

    Main drain vs skimmer...and pressure

I have a simple in ground setup. I have two valves that can be shut off. One valve shuts off main drain and the other the skimmer. Does it hurt any to shut off one valves completely if I want sediment to be sucked into main drain or if I want leaves to go faster into the skimmer? All I notice is...

    Pool liner

I have a pool liner that is about 14 years old. It came with the house. I opened and cleared the water for the 4rh year. The liner's pattern at the deep end is non existent. There is a patch from previous owner due to a dropped tablet. There is a big sink hole near the stairs. Smaller sink holes...

    Amount of bleach needed

So I am at the point where I know how much I have to add before even measuring. Considering it's been hot here in upstate NY and I have a decent sized pool, is it normal to have to add a bottle of bleach a day? I feel like I am spending $3 a day on chemicals lol.

    Muriatic acid scares me

Had to add some hydrochloric acid to pool to lower the ph that naturally likes to sit at 8 for some reason. Thst acid is pungent and scary. I really don't like handling it and mixing it with water. How does everybody else feel?

Best thing for expansion joints around pool concrete

So I finally got to cleaning out my expansion joints around the pool decking and filling them with Sikaflex self leveling polyurethane sealant. When I say the job looks clean, it really looks amazing. Not even a pro would have done it nicer. I highly recommend the product. It's the cadillac of...

    That good old pool store.

So I stopped by the local pool store to get some magic lube as its petty cheap there. I gave them my water sample just for the heck of it. They use they major computer brand to measure chemistry levels. I have balanced the heck out of the water with the Taylor k2006. I know that my hardness is...

    Pool pump burned out

My 14 year old Hayward Superpump finally kicked the bucket. On top of that, one of the union nuts attaching to the diverter valve disintegrated. I am having a major pool company come in on Friday and switch it to separate new valves instead of one abs replumb that area to make the pump fit...

    Hayward Pump Burned Out

So my 14 year old pump finally died. On top of that one of the nuts that attaches to the 3 way diverter valve died. Due to time constraints I am having a major pool service place come out and install a new pump and replumb the piping to have 2 separate valves instead of one. They told me that is...

    Pool pump plumbing question

My Union nut that connects to the diverter valve has finally cracked. I was able to remove the pipe from the pump. I think the pump just does not fit flush on the diverter valve receiving end. Is it ok to have an elbow or two plumbed to the intake port of pump or does it have to be a straight...

    Solar covers are awesome.

So I have been running my pump for a bit over 2 weeks now due to water being a bit hazy and not crystal clear. I decided to buy a solar cover and installed it yesterday. This morning l look under and the pool is crystal clear. I think the magic clearing fairy lives under there but she does not...

    Pool clearing but slow

Hello everybody. I have a approx. 25,000 gallon unground pool w/ Hayward S244T sand filter and a 1 hp Hayward single speed pump. I live in Upstate NY, it was my own mistake for not opening the pool up earlier. I was on vacation and it covered with a hard fabric stretch cover. I opened it on...

    Help please! Need opinion fast!

I closed my pool today and blew out the lines. I noticed that one of the plugs for the return was leaking slowly even after tightened, so I prepared another plug and unscrewed the plug and put another one in. Some water went in, and now I am not sure if I should redo everything. I already...

    Small mouse in pool...

I just shocked the pool due to overfilling it and got all the levels back to normal. This AM I found a small mouse in the skimmer dead. Do I shock again or leave it alone?

    Yes I overfilled the pool!

So last night I had a few beers and the pool was a little low so I put the hose in and it filled for 6 hours. So this am I woke up and it was almost to the top but it seemed it was draining somewhere like a safety drain. Are there safety drains that keep pools from overflowing or was I just...

    Polyurethane is awesome!

I had a gap between the concrete and the fiberglass stairs in pool. Bought polyurethene caulk today and applied and tooled it with alcohol like I do all my caulks. Man the thing was hard to squeeze out with the gun, the hardest I ever worked with. When I was done it looked great and seems like...

    opinions about hybrid approach

So I have owned my pool since march2014, but it has been open since may. So far, everything is great due to BBB. I have to confess though, that when I first started I did not know what I was doing so I ended up with a giant 40 lbs tub of 3in trichlor tablets from lowes for $89 (I know cheap). I...

    Possible very slow pump leak

I noticed that my hayward pump is either condensing or leaking very slowly at bottom. It's 10 years old at least. Should I just run it until it dies? It works perfect without problems and never loses suction. Can I just run it like that? The lady before me probably did not think anything of it...

    Backwashing

My pump backwashes really fast and I lose water fast. Should i backwash when psi rises even by 1 or 2? Why should I strain the pump by not bringing it down to base reading? What do you all think? I like my jets on full strength.

    New pool owner.

Bought house in April this year. Have a rectangular IGP with about 25000 gal water with deep and shallow end. Firs pool I ever owned, it's about 10 years old with sand filter and 1 hp Hayward pump. Had no idea about anything and could not understand the pool store (because they have no idea...
