    Reconnecting 2nd return

Thank you, Daxy! This is really really helpful. I'm kind of excited to get it done now :)

    Reconnecting 2nd return

And I woke up this morning to find the pool drained below the skimmer and the hose to the filter had popped off for the third time! No matter how much we tighten it, it blows off. So, I think we need to go all PVC down to those black underground hoses Argh!

    Reconnecting 2nd return

Thank you all. I've started a Photobucket page with pictures of all the working parts. I'm new to Photobucket as of 10 minutes ago, so I haven't figured out how to put captions, but hopefully you can figure out everything. I've tried to put things in logical order...

    Reconnecting 2nd return

Bump......any suggestions about how to connect two returns when there's only one output on the filter?

    Heaters

Thanks for the info. I think we're going to go with clear solar blankets for now and see how it goes. $60 investment is a little better than $3k :) especially since we've poured a lot of money into the pool this year already getting it up and running and we've got some inside projects that...

    Reconnecting 2nd return

And here's yet another question from a new and confused pool owner. We just opened our pool for the first time this year (bought the house last year). It had been closed for about 4-5 years the neighbor thinks. Whoever "winterized" it, and I use that term loosely, cut the hoses leaded to the...

    Heaters

Thanks for that info. That's a lot to think about. In the meantime, does anyone have any experience with solar blankets or the floating solar rings? Do they work at all?

Stain on vinyl liner in deep end

I know this most likely makes me appear stupid, but what is FC again? Something to do with chlorine?

    Heaters

After being quite chilly today in the pool, OH is very insistent on the need for a heater. We're in upstate NY, so it's not the balmiest, sunniest clime. What's a good solution---solar? Is there a heater you can plug in? And how much should we expect to spend? Thanks!

Stain on vinyl liner in deep end

I will try to get a decent picture of this--the glare off the water makes it not show up well. But in short, the pool sat closed for 4-5 years before we bought the house. No clue how it was winterized. It was a green/black swamp when we opened it this year. After shocking and much...

Water loss, air bubbles, total newbies at pool care, please help :)

Just an update. Tried dripping some red food coloring inside the skimmer. It shot down the crack! So, I got some JB Water Weld and plugged up the crack and then some. There was a hairline crack across from the big one and, now that I know what the putty looks like, I see that someone in...

Water loss, air bubbles, total newbies at pool care, please help :)

Hopefully I've successfully added a signature now :) I'll finish the info tomorrow in the daylight. Also will try to take some pictures. We're going to find some JB Water Weld tomorrow and give that a try. And thanks for the info on releasing air from the filter. Like I said, we're...

Water loss, air bubbles, total newbies at pool care, please help :)

Just noticed that when I lift the basket out of the skimmer, the plastic base around the pipe that heads out to the pump (and underground) seems to have a crack in it. I can stick a screwdriver in it and lift it. I'm wondering if that could possibly be the source of the leak--when there's...

Water loss, air bubbles, total newbies at pool care, please help :)

I'm sure bits and pieces relative to my pool problem are posted already, but my OH and I are completely new at this and don't want to make things worse by trial and error. In brief, our 25k gallon pool was opened for the first time in about 4-5 years this year. The house we bought sat empty...
