We're back! Pool demo and replacement in Sanger, Texas.

Kim (it's Karen), this pool builder has been phenomenal. I would actually consider going on vacation while he did the pool build (recalling the first pool builder telling us to do that!). Of course, I am hoping this is the LAST pool build :)

    Pool light placement

I think your Intellibrite placement is fine. If your gray liner is anywhere near as dark as my Black Onyx Pebble Sheen, I don't recommend using a Globrite. If it's more of a light gray, the Globrite is probably okay. Our new pool is big and deep and the builder went with four Globrites at about...

We're back! Pool demo and replacement in Sanger, Texas.

Update- When the pool startup guy came out, he noticed some issues. Two of the water bowls leaked from the connection between the supply pipe and the bowl and the spa was leaking water through the spa wall onto the deck near the spillway. None of these were gushers but, rather slow weeping...

We have water! The pool belongs to the startup guy for the next week. He is brushing it daily and working on the water chemistry. Actual startup will be middle of next week. Bob 2018-02-20_08-38-06 by Bob, on Flickr 2018-02-20_08-38-27 by Bob, on Flickr 2018-02-18_03-05-09 by Bob, on Flickr

They used the blowers to push the water/plaster away (and toward the sump at the bottom) as they rinsed the pebble. This was a very good crew. They arrived at 7:00am, were applying plaster by 8:00, and were off the site at noon. There were a lot of guys but everybody stayed busy and knew what...

We're back! Pool demo and replacement in Sanger, Texas.

Thanks Kim! It's really amazing how much different this whole experience has been. The down side of this build is it will be finished and it's still going to be too cold to swim. We'll get plenty of use out of that spa though!! I'd really like to go with a bronze statue but, we may have to...

Things continue to move forward. Pool entry steps wrapped and capped. Also, a lot of cleanup at this end in preparation for decking. 20180127_171649 by Bob, on Flickr Spillway completed. 20180127_171732 by Bob, on Flickr Water bowls in place. 20180127_171824 by Bob, on Flickr Pool equipment...

Okay, Karen has been asking me to do an update but, I have been reluctant because I didn't think you could see real progress. Today I took some photos of what's been going on. The stone work is definitely a slow process and given that we've had some seriously cold weather, we're lucky anything...

OMG - she is adorable. Is she sleeping on a tray?? So sorry to hear about the loss of the others. What does Roxie think about your fabulous pool? How do you keep her out of the river? We're in the stage now of our pool build where a lot of work is being done but the overall project hasn't...

    New Build In Sanger, TX

Everything looks amazing. I bet Joy can't wait to start cooking out in her kitchen :) As an FYI, Kim Kats volunteered Strawberry Pie the last time she was going to do a pool crawl and visit all the TX pools - I told her to stop by Sanger so she can do a two for 1. I'll have to come over and...

Hi Two Labs (it's Karen) - so good to hear from you. Have you been able to avoid any trouble free pool forum people from 2014 moving into your grotto? How is all your beautiful flagstone holding up? Bob opted not to go salt water this time, several reasons even though we don't have flagstone...

Hi Martin (it's Karen). How are the Danes, cats and nutria doing? Your pool build was one of my all time favorites. The view with the river behind it still remains so incredibly stunning. Tell your wife that I traded in my V, got an SVR and I think I miss my V! This pool build has been so...

We're back! Pool demo and replacement in Sanger, Texas.

The stone is close and I think weathering over time will get it even closer. I believe the orange and red in the existing stone is from high iron content. Maybe I can spray the new stone with iron dust in a suspension to help it along. The forecast is showing a high of 27 degrees on Tuesday...

We're back! Pool demo and replacement in Sanger, Texas.

Been a while since I've updated this. It has been very cold here for a while. Even with the cold, there has been some work getting done. The LA's crew have been out here on all but the very coldest days working on the travertine decking or the walls. They were able to pour the footings for the...

We're back! Pool demo and replacement in Sanger, Texas.

This week we have had some decent rains so things have slowed down a bit. The LA's guys have been working on the base for the decking. They've put down, spread and compacted about 70 yards of flex base and I'd guess they have about another 70 yards to go. The pour for the wall footings got...

Pool light and bubbler light on separate switches?

This is how our last pool builder did business. Any little thing that was not spelled out in the contract was an upcharge. Even things we specified as upgraded had an upcharge when we selected what we wanted and any change order was an upcharge even if the change created a simpler execution...

Here's what they are working on today. This will be pool deck. There are some old/existing drains in the middle; I don't know if they'll tie existing drains into the new stuff but I don't think those will be able to stay where they are. 20171216_123158 by Bob, on Flickr More drainage...

Okay, time for an update. There have been workers here every day this week. Mostly the LA's guys though, the tile guys returned on Thursday to install the remainder of the waterline tile. The tile guys also removed three inches of shotcrete from each side of the center column where the water...

    New Build In Sanger, TX

Wow that sucks! The good news is you still have plenty to keep you busy! Having that spa working on this string of cold nights we've been having sure would have been nice though. I would mention to the builder that they need to keep on top of any openings the plaster guys might have. There could...

New build corner radius potential issue

I wouldn't let that fly regardless of how many times he's done it that way. I believe the liner will stretch and fill in back into that corner easily enough but then you will have a lip overhanging the corner. Off the top of my head, perhaps some formable melamine back-filled with sand could...

Long time no...um, post? I mentioned to Karen that you posted on our new build thread and she started rattling off all the details of your pool. I have to say, this build is going much smoother than the last. Today we had the PB, the electricians, the landscape architect and his stone crew all...

We're back! Pool demo and replacement in Sanger, Texas.

Today's work consisted of a couple guys from the Shotcrete company cutting down the bench in the spa. The cut lines down as deep as they could with a handheld grinder and a diamond blade, then used a large hammer drill with a chisel to remove the material. Pretty much took them all day. They...

He's still planning to put Jandys at the equipment pad for automation. He said the Jandys at the pool side allow him to pressurize the lines. Apparently he doesn't feel the ball valves are up to the task for holding pressure. My understanding on the loop is that because of the number of jets and...

The red handled valves are ball valves. They'll just be used for balancing water flow. In my experience those things have a long service life. We had them on our pressure tank for our well and never had a problem. Bob

Thanks Kim, it's obvious this builder has had a long relationship with his subs. It's soooo nice to have him out here every morning explaining precisely what he wants. Yesterday was a great example. Yesterday was "long plumbing" installation. Now, I don't really understand why this is but, the...
