    Crystal Clear - No FC

After cleaning the algae out of the pool, and SLAMming it, my pool was ready to go. I passed the OCLT test a few weeks back as well. This past week however, I've noticed that the pool is not registering any FC whatsover. I've been using strictly 12.5% pool bleach, but after I ran out I switched...

Treating algae, but seems like pool has a problem

Thanks all. Shortly after I posted this I ended up finding the problem. The return jet input was leaking a little bit of water which I did not see earlier. Reconnected and threw another clamp on there and it's as good as new. No more bubbles, better water flow, and the vacuum is running now.

Treating algae, but seems like pool has a problem

I've cleared the green from the pool and now it's cloudy. I'm running the pool vacuum for the first time and the filter/pump is having one heck of a time pushing enough water through to make it work. Prior to doing this, the return jet was pushing out bubbles, making me think there is an issue...

New liner - broken filter - now starting the process

Update: The green is gone but the water has remained cloudy for a few days. Readings from this morning after adding 2 gal of 12.8% bleach last night. FC: 7.5 CC: <0.5 CYA: 30 PH: 7.4 AK: 100 As I mentioned, the pool hasn't cleared up at all really for the past few days after constant...

New liner - broken filter - now starting the process

Perfect! I was wondering about the pH and was thinking I could do that tonight and then hopefully add chlorine as well. Thanks Rich! Will post an update tomorrow as well as a picture.

New liner - broken filter - now starting the process

Long story short, family replaced pool liner and at the time the filter and pump were being reconnected it was determined that the filter had an issue. Week went by until it could get fixed due to travel and such, and we were left with a nice, green, frog haven. The filter has been fixed...

Got back from vacation to a green, cloudy mess

I've decided to just run a high chlorine pool for the rest of the summer because I don't see the benefit to re-draining this late and wasting money on my water bill to refill. The past few days the water has maintained its color however today there is a HUGE difference in the water quality and...

Got back from vacation to a green, cloudy mess

I was away for 3 weeks for vacation and left family members to take care of the pool during that time. Everything was going fine it seemed from speaking to them through 2 weeks however there was one day that there were several other relatives over swimming and I think that's where things went...

SLAM underway since Saturday, do I need to clean filter?

Hi folks, As the title suggests, I started SLAMming my pool on Saturday and have came a long way since then. Water has went from a tadpole infested swamp to a cloudy-starting to look like a pool scene. And before you ask, yes I tried to save as many of the tadpoles as possible and lead them to...

CYA is 0. Can I still SLAM?

Just added liquid conditioner using Pool Math which should bring me up to between 30-40ppm. Should I wait for that to register before starting to SLAM? I have successfully SLAM'd in the past but I am just very impatient this year due to what happened and want to get as much done and do it as...

CYA is 0. Can I still SLAM?

I recently posted in Getting Started about my journey to open the pool this year. Long story short...cinder block dropped in pool by anonymous family member, patched, rain water gathered, algae, pool filled with new water on top of that rain water, hoses fixed, water is circulating, and now I'm...

The pain and agony has subsided, now time to get to work.

I have the pump running and circulating now. Next up would be to run a full test I assume? My FC, CC, and CYA will most definitely be 0 due to the algae from rain water build up and fresh fill. However, the PH and AK shouldn't have changed a whole lot from when I took the stagnant reading the...

Have the filter running properly now.

So, after debating whether to spend the entire day figuring out how to hard plumb my swimming pool, I opted to go to HD and grab some sealing tape and a few new fittings to stop my pool hoses from leaking. Success! I have my marsh circulating now, so I will let that run for a few hours and then...

Pool Hoses Leaking, Going to attempt to hard plumb today hopefully

Hi all, So over the past few days, I've had major complications with the regular old hoses that I've been using for several years now. For some reason, they just aren't fitting properly this year, as they have in the past. Not sure why. Anyway, after a good bit of research, it seems that hard...

The pain and agony has subsided, now time to get to work.

Hard plumbing seems the way to go. The pool has survived quite awhile with the regular old hoses but this year they just aren't fitting properly. I'll have to do some investigation and figure out what all I need to hard plumb.

The pain and agony has subsided, now time to get to work.

It seems that I don't recall which hoses connect are used for which now because both the return opening on the pool and the valve at the top of filter are leaking. I don't recall having to use any type of sealant before but maybe that is what I will need since they don't seem to fit on securely.

The pain and agony has subsided, now time to get to work.

So first off, just tried turning the pump on, and it's leaking on the top valve of the pump. I have all the pieces but the line seems like it's too big for the mouth of the valve. I had the grey hose attached first and then I tried the black. What am I doing wrong here?

The pain and agony has subsided, now time to get to work.

So, I've filled the pool up to the correct level. Just need to fill the sand filter with some water now and then get the pump running. Just took the PH/AK readings and I'm at about 9.0 for PH and 45ppm for AK. Once I get the filter/pump running, I'd imagine the first thing I should do is get...

I have not tested the current water yet. There is a bit of algae and of course pollen and tadpoles in it :) I also have more reagents on the way. Thanks!

The pain and agony has subsided, now time to get to work.

Good evening TFPer's, So after a long awaited summer, it's finally time to get the pool in mint condition and make it swimmable. It's been a rough opening. A family member whose name shall rename anonymous, had a bit too many, and "accidentally" (not sure how this happened) dropped one of the...

    Covering Filter/Pump Vs Storing

Is it OK to leave the pump and filter out as long as it's covered during the winter? This is my first year closing my AGP by myself and I'm just trying to figure out what the best/safest method would be. It looks like there's a wired connection on the pump that seems to be prohibiting me from...

Pool Closing got put off for personal reasons and just now getting around to it

Yes of course I have hoses for the plumbing to the filter and return. What do you mean by leaving them open for rain or snow? My pool will be covered so that shouldn't make a difference I wouldn't think, right? Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk

Pool Closing got put off for personal reasons and just now getting around to it

So as the title suggests I had started the closing process about a month ago but ran into some issues and was unable to proceed. I skimmed all the leaves and pine needles off of the top this morning and have tried as best I can to skim the bottom of the pool to rid the needles and leaves as...

Wait time between addition of chemicals

I have used the Natural Chemistry Instant conditioner before to raise CYA as that is what it is intended for. Natural Chemistry Chemicals - Swimming Pool Supplies, Parts, and more - Backyard Pool Superstore It normally kicks in within 2-3 days completely and works magically.

Wait time between addition of chemicals

I added muriatic acid to bring my PH down about 30 minutes ago. How long should I wait before I add conditioner since I need to raise my CYA level a bit? I will be adding bleach later on tonight FYI.

Water balanced but still cloudy...dead algae particles?

I did not do an OCLT last night unfortunately. The FC was 1.0ppm last night, and I added 1 gallon of bleach. Tested this morning and FC was 9.0. I will make sure to do an OCLT tonight. Do you recommend adding enough bleach to bring it up to 16 for the day? Or wait until I perform the OCLT?
