    Liquidator question ?

laprjns - can you describe in a bit more detail how you added the pinch valve in place of the flowmeter? I've got a USP pinch valve (5/16-3/8) I'd like to add as well. Thanks.

    New Liquidator installation

Gtemkin - Laprjns - you guys are amazing!!! Completely agree with Kim. Thanks for taking the time out of your Sunday to educate me on all of this. The pics make it clear!!! Just a few more questions and I think I'll have enough to proceed with confidence. (1) I like the idea of keeping the...

    New Liquidator installation

Huh? That sounds different than what laprjns is saying. By your method, the tap to the right of the multivalve (SW quadrant) would be the suction side. And the other tap in the SE quadrant would be the pressure side. Which would mean that I do have the correct taps for a Liquidator already...

    New Liquidator installation

Wow!!! Guess I've been looking at this all wrong. Can you please help me identify the suction side from the pressure side? I have always thought that the flow was from the 3-legs into the filter basket, into the filter, then back out through the pipe just below the pipe with the tap, into the...

    New Liquidator installation

Pic attached...looks like I have a tap both into the suction side and the output side...seems like based on the advice provided I could just resuse the taps unless I want to preserve the puck chlorinator in which case I can use the bottom of the pump filter basket as the suction area and drill...

    New Liquidator installation

Hi there - have just shifted back to BBB after 3 years of using a Hayward puck Chlorinator and not noticing my CYA rise until I had a big algae problem that required me to drain and restart with BBB to get under control. Like the results using Walmart bleach and now looking for a way to not...

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Pool filled. CYA down from 90 to 40. Used bleach to SLAM to 19 FC last night. Lost 3 FCs to 16 this morning. Will continue to SLAM until no more than 1 FC loss overnight. CCs are at .5. I plan to check every 3 hours or so today to keep chlorine levels at 19. Time to consider a liquid...

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Thanks!! Pool is drained. Filling back up now. But its going slow......should I throw in some bleach to protect against algae as I fill it up during the day, or just wait until it is filled and then combat with SLAM?

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Bama - just use the Rinse setting on the multiport to drain the pool? Or Waste?

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Thanks Bama. Just read your link to SLAMing and OCLT. Sounds like even though my water "looks" clear, there may still be algae consuming FCs faster than my maintenance-oriented chlorinator can pump chlorine back into the pool. And since my CYA is high, I should plan to drain maybe half the...

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Thanks Tim. But it looks like Bama was right. I checked last evening and chlorine level was back down to 3. No change to the chlorinator at all. So it must be the CYA level. Looks like I'm going to have to drain half the pool as Bama suggested to bring CYA back down to where the chlorinator...

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Thanks. What is the recommended level of FC for a high CYA? And where can I get more information on options and cost for a bleach injection pump?

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

What about if I switch to liquid bleach for a while. The problem is the daily application of it, but if that helps restore the CYA then it may be worth it. Dumping half the pool seems so wasteful to me.

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

I use a TF-100 kit to do all my testing. It has a strange test that involves dripping pool water and a chemical into a tube until you can no longer see a black dot at the bottom. Replacing half my water? Are you serious? Is there no other way to bring CYA levels down?

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Bama Rambler - sorry for the delay. But I believe you are right, that the algae problem was consuming the FC. I just checked and my FC is at 6.5, and my CYA is at 80. Water is looking clear now, except for a green stain on the pool floor that I will have to brush out I presume. Am watching...

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Thanks for the response. Will try to post results later today. Believe I have the algae under control now with the shock and other algae chemicals I bought and poured into the pool. Water is clearing up and becoming blue again. But it got this way (twice) because the chlorinator does not...

    Hayward offline Chlorinator not working?

Have used an offline Chlorinator for years. Now, all of a sudden, I can't seem to get it to feed chlorine into the pool through it. Have just replaced the unit with a new unit, including all the tubes and fittings. Chlorinator turned all the way up. Still experiencing drop in chlorine in the...

    Pump pressure increasing rapidly

Had to backwash again today - 2 days after the last backwash. Pressure was up to around 25. I'm not in town to perform a TFtestKit full result, but will do so over the weekend. I'm wondering if I am putting in too much of the ecoclean DE. Instructions say 1 scoop per 12 sq ft of filter, so I...

    Pump pressure increasing rapidly

Not sure why, but over the last few weeks, I am seeing an increase in my pool pump pressure over a matter of days instead of the normal weeks. When clean (or after a backwash) I run at about 13-14. And I can usually go 3-6 months without a backwash triggered by rising pressure to about 20...

    Pool water levels - leak?

Ok. Did the bucket test. Left it overnight and through the day today. Bucket lost almost no water. Pool level on the external of the bucket dropped about an inch. My wife tells me that my polaris has been getting stuck a lot lately and spewing water out of the pool. This may have...

    Pool water levels - leak?

Need some advice to know if I have a problem. I live in Atlanta, and over the summer, it was not unusual for me to top off the pool 3-4 times a week due to the high heat levels. However, we are now in the Fall and the temperatures have cooled down quite a bit, and I find that I am still...

    Pool Perfect + PhosFREE

Just an update - I used pucks while I was out all week. Everything seems fine. Chrorine levels are at 7-8 ppm. CYA has risen slightly to around 40 from 25-30. So I am pleased with the result. And with my CYA still low, I can probably use pucks next week while I am out as well with...

Thanks. Thats what I was afraid of. I'm still looking for that "system" that you can set once and walk away and your pool will be perfectly maintained. I thought that meant hiring a pool maintenance company....boy was I wrong!!! If I install in inline system, can you turn it off and on as...

    Pool Perfect + PhosFREE

Checked out the Pentair Rainbow 320 inline. One question I have is that if these inline erosion chlorinators only use pucks, and pucks raise CYA levels, how to you manage your increased CYA levels? do you have to alternate between inline and pucks and regular bleach into the pool until CYA...

    Pool Perfect + PhosFREE

Didn't know about erosion feeders. Thanks for the tip. My google searches indicate that this is an installed item at the pump/filter level. Is this a difficult installation? Can this be done by someone less mechanically inclined like I am? Is there a portable version that does not require...

    Pool Perfect + PhosFREE

Sounds like some triclor pucks may be the right thing to do for now to raise the CYA levels. Any other way to raise CYA? Longer term, pucks when I'm out the entire week sound like a good idea too. And I'll make sure to add borax when I return from a trip to bring the acid level down a bit...

    Pool Perfect + PhosFREE

Thanks, guys for the quick responses. I just checked by CYA level and it as at 25-30. Back in May, in was at 70. Not sure what could have made such a dramatic change in CYA, except that I had shocked the pool twice in the last month with a product from Bioguard called Burnout Extreme. I did...

I have converted over to the BBB method this spring. So far, no algae issues, and am maintaining bleach levels at 8ppm with a TF-100 test kit and walmart bleach. However, I travel a lot, and the daily requirement can be cumbersome especially since I have to hand off to my 13-yr old to do it...
