Fixed pump shaft corrosion, new seals?

Spring start up and the pump shaft was stuck from winter corrosion. Took off the motor to free it up. Could not get it to budge with the back cap off. Anyway, the pool store told me I’d need all new seals anytime the motor is removed from the pump housing. Is this correct?

Pool School CL and Heater recommended levels

So here's the thing. Pool school recommends 70 CYA and 5 ppm target FC. Hayward recommends 1-3 ppm of CL. If you're beyond 3 as pool school suggests are you not causing sanitizer damage to your heater? We know Hayward will say so. What level of FC is too much on a continual basis?

    Hayward Heater Leaking again

Our pool build was in 2009. We've had the heater replaced twice already and today I noticed it leaking again. This one is 4 years old. Its the H250 electronic ignition. When the heater runs the leak seems to stop. I imagine when it cools the leak will return. The history is the first was...

    Pump working wont prime

My pool just opened for the season and the pump wouldn't work. I have never opened my pool myself. I got the pump working and it will not suck water into the basket regardless if I have it on main drain or skimmer. I can't recall if the main drain is the falve handle parallel or perpendicular...

    Pump failed again.

We had our pool installed in 2009. It's used 4 months of the year. We had it opened today and the pump doesn't work. It just hums. I checked the impeller and it cannot be budged so I don't think it's the capacitor. Gave it a few taps with a hammer too. Nothing. We had to have the pump motor...

Does a Salt Cell know when it needs replacement?

I'm noticing the percentage setting I have my salt system set at is not producing chlorine in the amounts I want. The setting I used in previous years was great. I have increased the output and can't seem to get beyond 2 ppm. I added liquid last weekend because of cloudy water and don't know...

Coudy water, how long to clear

I noticed my water was cloudy this morning. I did a test and came up with: CL-2 -CC-0 PH-8+ TA-100 CYA-80 CH-370 It's a salt pool. I immediately added acid and my PH is now 7.2. If the PH was the issue, how long should it take to clear the water? Any other suggestions?

    Pool Heater Condensation

Just opened today and the water temp after fill is 49. Lit the heater and it caught on the first try. I notice some water dripping from the base of the heater. Is this normal when the water is so cold?

    Pool Heater Leaking and Bypass

The ongoing saga of my leaking Hayward Heater took a new turn today. My one year old unit was swapped out today by an authorized Hayward service tech which really just mean a local HVAC company. Anyhow, within two hours, the new heater was leaking an unmissable stream of water. It was...

    Second Hayward H250 Leaking. Stumped

Last year our 3 year old Hayward H250 FDN started leaking and eventually we replaced it. At that time we were told it was likely the heat exchanger. I am pretty neurotic about my chemistry but of course no one records all their test results. So last July the identical model heater was...

    Slight Heater Leak on Statup

Just opened my pool this weekend and got everything ready to go. Water temp was 52 and turned the heater on. I noticed the first half hour or so there was water leaking from the bottom of the heater. Could this be condensation? Is it a big deal? The heater has been going for about 20 hours...

    Pool Company Closing Question

I just had the pool company come and close my pool this morning. Same company that I always use. This time though they didn't put in the plugs. Three are yellow which go in the returns, and one is black. Not sure where that one goes. Is this a big deal?

How to keep prime when cleaning basket?

When we first had our pool built, the builder showed me to 'lock in the prime' when turning the pump off to clean the basket. I would turn the valve so that the 'off' portion of the handle was facing the pump. Anyhow, I've noticed lately that this no longer works and when I open the top of the...

How do you know when to change the sand?

Is there some tell tale sign or warning one should look out for? Is there a time period rule of thumb? Thanks.

Torrential Rain, Pool Full of Mud

Just came home from a night away and the pool is full of mud. Neighbors indicated we had a horrendous rain storm last night. The one area of my backyard that is a bit lower than my other neighbors yard ran like a stream to my pool. You cannot see the bottom. I have poured in some floc and...

Brand New Hayward H250 FDN heater leaking

My 3 year old Hayward H250 FDN started leaking and it was replaced last week with an identical model. I just noticed tonight that water was leaking from the exact same area. What could be causing this. My chemistry is spot on other than my CL which is about 7 ppm after tonight's test. The...

    TF 100 testing question

When performing the various tests that require the water to turn clear or a particular color, is the test accomplished when any change in color of the water is detected or do you continue to add drops until the solid unmistakeable color is achieved?

What caused this in my 3 year old Hayward heater

My heater started leaking. It's a 3 year old Hayward 250 FDN. Then it would no longer light. I ended up replacing the heater. I took the old one apart and took photos of my exchanger and the burners. Can anyone suggest what caused this so that I can avoid another replacement in three years...

CL 16 CYA 55 TA 110 CH 360 PH 7.4 According to the pool store I also my phosphates are 1000 I had my aqualine chlorinator set at 24% which is clearly too high. I dialed it down to 15% in an attempt to find the sweet spot. I have a vinyl pool, how troublesome is the Calcium Hardness? How...

Algaecide and Water Boatman and Backswimmers

I have read that Bioguard Backup is quite effective in taking out these bugs in addition to proper chlorination. I cannot find anyone local that sells it, but many sell other 40% - 60% algaecides. I have read that Bioguard Backup is 50%. In any case, does it have to be 50% or would the 40%...

    Flame sensor impossible to remove

I have a hayward H250 FD, lo nox that wont stay lit. On this board it was suggested to check my flame sensor. Problem is the screw holding it in place will not turn. Don't know if its rusted or what, but a screw driver wont do it. I grabbed a socket and thought that would do it, but the...

Leaking Heater stops when heater is running

I noticed a few weeks ago that my heater was dripping water from the bottom on the side the pipes come in to it. When the heater is operating, the leak stops, which tells me this is from something expanding and plugging the leak or that the leaking water is simply evaporating on a hot surface...

Hayward H250 no longer lights on first attempt

I've noticed that when I switch my electronic ignition H 250 on in the morning the first attempt to ignite fails. It actually fires up for 3-4 seconds and then goes off and restarts the lighting process with the clicking etc. It has yet to fail on the second try. I haven't received an IF...

    Inspect cell flashing

My pool has been open for about 3 weeks. This morning the inspect cell light was flashing. Prior to opening I did a complete acid wash and the interior of the cell was spotless. Does the 500 hour reminded reset when its disconnected, as in over the winter, or does it simply accumulate hour...

    Hayward H250 Heater Leaking

My three year old Hayward Heater is slowly leaking from the bottom, on the side opposite the controls. If you look underneath it seems to come from right around where one of the legs meets the corner. It isn't gushing water or anything, but a steady drip making the concrete bad wet. Any...

Leaking Hayward Superpump and louder sound

We just opened our pool last Friday and I thought it seemed louder than before. This is the pump's third year. At first I thought I'm just not used to the sound after a long winter break. In any case I noticed the pump is leaking from the bottom and did some research and I understand a seal...

    CE error on Hayward H250

Last night we had a huge thunder storm. By this morning all had cleared away and I turned my heater on, and put in my navigator to clean the pool. Throughout the day, I noticed several electronic devices have been damaged by a power surge, including three TVs, a receiver and a treadmill. The...

Milkly/cloudy water from jets when SWG is activated

Opened the pool earlier this week, heated the water to 63F and turned on my SWG to check the salt reading etc. When it generates, I'm getting the milky water from the return jets or main drain. I did a search and read that it is likely hydrogen bubbles, and they do appear to be bubbles...

Hayward H250 Lo Nox wont stay lit, IF code

Just opened the pool yesterday. Filled it up last night, ran it through the main drain all night after adding salt and switched it to the skimmer this morning. This will be the heater's third season. Anyhow, it went through it's normal cycling, with the clicking etc. Faint smell of gas. I...
