So long story short, I leave the pool up during the winter. We have a pretty unexpected move that needs to happen in the next 6 weeks, but the pool is frozen! Any ideas how to thaw it safely? We rent so the pool has to be taken down when we leave. -Paige

Just wanted to update! Came home to a sparkly clean pool! With FC at 6! It needed some love being vacuumed, but the water was 90 degrees and as clear as could be!

I've read a tonnn on here about when it's okay, the clarifier isn't hurting anything at this point. I can't find DE less than a 25lb bag, I guess I'll keep searching.

Make sure you're vacuuming or using the leaf rake/bag to clean the bottom. Even if you can't see. You want to get as much gunk out as possible. I found a pile of it in the middle of my pool almost a week into the slam, after vacuuming and raking a LOT!

To pass OFCL test, water should be clear, less than 1ppm FC drop and less than .5 CC. If your water is clear and water levels pass then you can let it drop down.

I would only do it when I could be outside and watch it during the day. I'll give it tonight and tomorrow and see if it clears up any. If not, DE it is. LOL

Jeff it's so nice not having to keep cleaning it!! I've made it 24 hours now without back washing. The pool is just a cloudy but white mess. Debating if I want to try adding DE or not. I only lost 2ppm FC between 9pm last night and noon today. Less than 1 before sunrise.

I honestly think everything is dead, attempting OFCL test just to see what happens tonight. Everyone says the sand filter takes forever to clear the water, totally believing that! Didn't have to backwash but once today!!!

So far today I've tested water, back washed the pump, added more bleach... blind raked a little. Tested and added more bleach. My warm water is also now cold thanks to the rain. :(

I would maintain your SLAM level at the number which you added to using pool math. So if you added enough CYA to get it to 30, assume its 30 and use that as your SLAM level.

Not much more to report, been holding FC pretty well. I'm only adding 3-4 ppm per day. Just waiting for the water to clear up. *sigh* I want to jump in so badly! LOL
