Advice on refurbishing my old sand filter, purchasing a new one, or moving to cartridge or DE for SWG pool

Ordered a new multivalve handle assembly, drained the sand and ordered a new plug. Thanks for all the help

Advice on refurbishing my old sand filter, purchasing a new one, or moving to cartridge or DE for SWG pool

Although upon looking at replacement plugs it appears I may be missing a part. I don't have that little white plastic plug which I'm guessing fits into the drain plug and prevents sand flow...

Advice on refurbishing my old sand filter, purchasing a new one, or moving to cartridge or DE for SWG pool

The drain plug is progressively leaking worst every year. The threads are cross threaded. I've seen some ideas of thread sealing a quarter turn PVC valve to the male threads which is what I mean by creative. However I also have to somehow put a new screen in place or get the old screen back...

Advice on refurbishing my old sand filter, purchasing a new one, or moving to cartridge or DE for SWG pool

I SLAM every opening. I would likely have to go with the 4 cartridge large units and I guess I don't know how much cleaning that would involve

Advice on refurbishing my old sand filter, purchasing a new one, or moving to cartridge or DE for SWG pool

Thanks Jim....I would likely still need to utilize the filter to filter the algae and circulate while I kill the algae. I'm assuming a should expect at least one or two extra cartridge cleans during the process. From the little bit of research I have done so far sounds like algae starts to...

Advice on refurbishing my old sand filter, purchasing a new one, or moving to cartridge or DE for SWG pool

Thanks Jim...the note about algae is definitely one to consider for me. I do close being in Cincinnati and at least for the moment, with a worn out mesh security corver, I open to quite the mess. With no vacuuming to waste built into the cartridge filter that may leave me with a lot of manual...

Advice on refurbishing my old sand filter, purchasing a new one, or moving to cartridge or DE for SWG pool

Hey TFP folks, My sand filter is showing lots of signs of age. I bought the house with the pool so not really sure how old it is, but the multivalve is worn out and partially pumping to waste when I have it set on filter which is obviously a huge problem and the last straw to having to address...

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

mknauss....I was already thinking the Triton or the equivalent was going to be right for my pool. It doesn't look like Marina has some of the prices at this time that others have posted about. Did you say before that Marina offers a 15% discount to TFP members? Also...it sounds like this...

    Aqualoon Filter Balls

Just came across these yesterday. Love the idea of more effectively filtering the small particles. Hate the idea of cleaning them by hand and backwashing being useless! Any new experience or feedback from the manufacturer?

Replacing motor only, correct sizing, and upgrading to 2-speed

Motor comes with a touch screen timer. A.O. Smith 3/4 HP Full Rate Two Speed Motor W/ Timer - Round Flange (B973T, B2973T) 115V - INYOPools.com However it does appear that this motor is meant to be hooked up to a 115V source and I have a 230V source.

Replacing motor only, correct sizing, and upgrading to 2-speed

My motor on my Hayward Super II Pump went out this week and I had bee researching and debating what type of pump to get cause it was clear mine was on it's last legs. I've basically concluded at this point that the additional features and energy savings associated with a variable speed pump are...

Trouble with my new generator cell

FC was around 1.0 when I got home from vacation and at 5.0 prior to leaving. It was a very hot week that I was gone.

Trouble with my new generator cell

CYA was 80 prior to vacation, but latest measurements show more like 50-60 which is weird. Shouldn't be loosing stabilizer.

Trouble with my new generator cell

I have a circupool RJ60. Just hooked it up a little over a month ago. Was working great. I went on vacation for 9 days with the pump timed for 6 hours a day with the generator on 65% which was a little higher than I had been keeping it prior to the vacation. I came back to a cloudy pool and...

Trouble with my new generator cell

I've not been producing as much salt the past week or so and I looked at my cell and there is a brown almost burnt or rusting look on the plastics parts directly downstream of my salt cell. Any thoughts on what this may be?

    Power Consumption of Standard Pump

Hey folks....I'm thinking about upgrading to a Variable speed (or maybe a 2-speed) pump. My current pump is working, but is load and not very energy efficient. What I'm trying to decide is how much energy savings I should really expect to see with the variable pump. I was all set to go out...

Where is all my salt going?

Thanks for the help. I've turned the generator off and will be heading out for some bleach this evening. Kinda bummed, but I should no better than to doubt the TFP guidance and it clearly says open with regular old liquid bleach. The website/forum and you guys have never stirred me wrong...

Where is all my salt going?

OK disregard the comment about the current always reading negative. I just went out and checked again and it is now reading positive current around 4.3 Amps. The water temp is around 64F. I had a ton of algae when I opened the pool. I vacuumed most of it to waste. Vacuum, brush, vacuum...

Where is all my salt going?

I've seen nothing but negative current sense I started running it and that has been multiple on offs. After having the salinity right and the other chems balanced I've had the generator on all day for the first time and the pool is getting greener and there is no FC in the pool. Think I wired...

Where is all my salt going?

Yeah the test strips I have are the 1 inch and dip one end in. I was soaking the entire strip :) Got my salt going. I see a cloudiness in the water coming out of the cell when it is running, so everything seems good. The current readout is negative. Is that normal?

In that case do you think there's a chance I just vacuumed it all to waste :$

Where is all my salt going?

I just installed an Circupool RJ60 SWCG. I've dumped 400 lbs of Morton Pool Salt into my pool. 320 lbs 2 days ago and 80 lbs last night. I have salt strips that are telling me I have around 700 ppm of salt yesterday and today. Has it not dissolved yet. I've been vacuuming a bunch of algae...

Important electrical question for SWCG hook up.

OK fellas I have indeed confirmed that a 220V circuit does NOT require a neutral wire and it is acceptable to use the neutral as a ground.

Important electrical question for SWCG hook up.

My house was built in 1992 though, so seems unlikely. I'll take a look. Seems like something I should correct.
