Pool Plaster Issues - White Spots in Quartz Finish

Well, that is disheartening to read. It appears there really is no fix for it other than resurfacing again. This jumped out at me: "Severe white spotting can cause the calcium hardness level of the pool water to increase, and does that through the process of the plaster surface deteriorating...

Pool Plaster Issues - White Spots in Quartz Finish

We had our pool resurfaced last February (16 months ago) in a Bermuda quartz finish. The plaster has developed white spots all over it. Aside from maybe low chlorine, the water chemistry has never been off and I have been VERY mindful of my CH levels. I don't think this is scaling. The spots...

    Pool Timer Died - Recommendations

Interesting is right. The guy that built it owned an electrical business. I think he fashioned this out if surplus materials he had laying around. I'm sure it was nice at one point, but now it's just old and has way too many points of failure. I'm guessing it's 25-30 years old. You are correct...

    Pool Timer Died - Recommendations

I noticed yesterday that my pool pump wasn't running and went out to investigate. I discovered that my pool timer was blank and verified power to the input of the timer. I installed a two speed pump recently, but have only been using it at high speed because my current timer didn't have the...

    Pump Motor Question

You were correct. All 3 terminals to ground read 0.L 1 to 2 was 1.5 2 to 3 was 1.5 1 to 3 was 00.0 2 to 3 takes longer to settle at 1.5 for whatever reason.

    Pump Motor Question

    Sorry, just realized I did that wrong. 1 to 2 - 1.5 ohms with continuity 1 to 3 - 0 ohms with continuity 2 to 3 - it jumps around between 1.5 to 3 ohms with continuity. 1 to G - 0 2 to G - 0 3 to G - 0

    Pump Motor Question

I think I have a short across the windings. I'm getting anywhere from 1.5 to 3 ohms with continuity ground to high speed side of board. I'm getting 1.5 ohms with continuity ground to low speed side. I'm getting 0 ohms with continuity low speed side to high speed side. I shouldn't be getting...

    Pump Motor Question

I get 240 line to line, but the only way I can check it is by disconnecting everything. I can't check it while in service because the breaker trips before I can get test leads on it. I don't know how to check the resistance on the windings.

I took the line from the center of the rocker and hooked it up directly to the high speed or low speed side of motor. The pic is the high speed side.

I bypassed the switch to both the high speed and low speed with the same result. 2-3 seconds ans the breaker trips.

    Pump Motor Question

Here is what I have verified - I have 120v to each leg and when the motor starts, the shaft and impeller spin. The motor doesn't sound right when it runs though. It's louder, but not a grinding sound. When I spin it manually it spins easily and freely and makes no noise so I don't think it's a...

    Pump Motor Question

I have been running it on high speed. I would think if the switch was bad it would either work or not work, not run for 2-3 seconds and trip the breaker. I just went out there and tried it on low speed and got the same result.

    Pump Motor Question

Is it safe to assume that if I have 110v to each leg, then the motor is bad? Or is there somewhere else I should be looking before I replace?

    Pump Motor Question

Well, I pulled the pump apart this morning and the shaft spins without issue and there are no issues that I can see with the impeller. It spins freely as well. I was going to try replacing the capacitor as a (hopefully) cheap fix, but I can't find one. Is it possible that the motor doesn't have...

    Pump Motor Question

I will have to get a pic of the pump when I get home, but it will look just like to that. What I posted was a stock photo of my pump. After doing some more research, I think I may just have a start cap issue. My pump kicks on for a few seconds, then trips the breaker. It sounds louder than...

    Pump Motor Question

Thank you for the response. Below is a pic of my pump setup. Does the square mounting flange bolt up to the pump from the back side? I'm trying to figure out how the 48 frame motor you posted would mount up to the pump.

    Pump Motor Question

A couple of years ago my pump failed and, against my better judgement, I replaced it with an Xtreme Power pump. Well, a couple of years later the motor has failed. I'm looking into replacing the motor with a better motor (read: AO Smith, etc.). The nameplate shows it to be a 48 frame motor, but...

    Not Quite Sparkling

My pool water is clear but has just a tinge of cloudiness to it. It just doesn't have that sparkle that it normally does. The plaster was redone 4 months ago. What should I do to get back to that sparkle. FC - 8 CC - 0 CYA - 50 PH - 7.5 TA - 70 CH - 410
