    Consider replacement pump

I posted on this yesterday, but now I'm just considering replacing the thing... Been fighting with 2HP Jacuzzi Magnum 2HP pump since the start of this season. Replaced run capacitor and impeller. Now when I turn it on, nothing. I confirmed each individual lead at the pump is getting 115V...

Pump won't start - no hum or anything

The leads on my meter aren't long enough to hit both of the wires at once. I did check the power at the breaker box and it's reading 220v. Didn't bother unscrewing them cause when I was messing with it I broke off the switch (this guy)...

Pump won't start - no hum or anything

I had pump issues back in May when I get the pool going. Ended up replacing the impeller and capacitor - been running great ever since. 2HP Jacuzzi (old). Came back today after being out of town for a few days to find the pool full of leaves. Pump wont run. If I go into service mode and...

Waiting on my test kit...what now?

To answer your question, use pool math to get the TA down (acid and airate to raise PH). If it was my pool I'd do that and, at the same time, add CYA and bleach. Others with more experience might disagree.

Waiting on my test kit...what now?

If you still have combined chlorine at 4 there's something up. How high was FC during your SLAM? I suspect there is still stuff in there you're going to want to get rid of. If you're confident in that CYA number I'd recommend adding stabalizer asap to get to 30 (you can always add more -...

    Acid wash question

Gave this a shot. Acid turns yellow and fizzs like crazy. I tried it in a few areas and it doesn't seem to take off enough to make any difference. Sandpaper works, but it's gonna be a chore. Started with the drywall screens, but they just get ripped up by the rough surface. Random orbit...

    Acid wash question

Got it. Since I'm not sure if I'm dealing with calcium scale or severely etched plaster, I guess it's best to go with the sandpaper? I suppose I can test with some acid and see if I get the fizz....

To confirm, that is calcium scaling, correct? Just making sure before I attack it...

    Acid wash question

Here's the wall for comparison - the wall is above the seat and while not good, it's certainly better.

That's the seat area of the spa - pretty bad.

    Acid wash question

Got it. I have a handy attachment for those that connect right to a shop vac - I'll start with that. I'll post a pic of the issue just to be sure - I looked at it again this morning and thought to myself it looked really bad. When I opened the pool ph was really high - not sure how high cause...

    Acid wash question

Thanks guys. Do I need to use special wet dry sandpaper, or will regular sandpaper do? Starting with sandpaper seems to make sense

    Acid wash question

I have a 30,000 gal pool with 800 gal attached spa. Have had scaling on the spa for years and I'm ready to take care of it. Was going to try an acid was first. What concentration muriatic acid should I have? I have the 31% stuff - how much would you recommend diluting it? Scaling is only in...

    Stain identification

Thanks. I'm in PA. PH is 7.2 and water is 70 degrees. I'll brush daily and see how it goes... Seems like these should be some kind of device that allows you to hold a chlorine puck on the end of a metal skimmer pole. I tried to tie one onto the brush with some string but couldn't get it right.

    Stain identification

Pics of the offending stain attached. Problem is it's right in the middle of the deep end around the main drain. I started with a chlorine push and the broom - tried to "scrub" the bottom with it, but couldn't really get it going. I let it sit overnight and thought maybe I saw some...

Polaris 380 running slowly and weak

Thanks Bo. I left it off my original post but this has been checked and cleaned. It had a bit of dirt but I would estimate it was 90%+ clear to begin with. I did not notice any material difference in performance after cleaning it.

Polaris 380 running slowly and weak

I moved a few years ago and always accepted that the Polaris 380 that came with the house did an OK job at best. I always seems to miss spots and whenever the hose gets even the slightest bit tangled it doesn't have the power to untangle it (as a result it generally doesn't get very far). I...

    Getting ready to add borates

I figured...I'll get the TA down. I'm adding them for all the positive reasons added in the sticky...seems worth the cost. So on lowering TA...I understand I need to add the acid an aireate. What's the best way to get the acid into the pool? By that I mean to I just stand over the pool and...

    Getting ready to add borates

Tested today: FC 3.2 Cc 0 Ph 7.4 Ta 120-125 Cya ?? Ch 400 I should have cya at 50. I had zero going into the season and added solid to get me up to 50. I added last Sunday so ill check again this weekend. At this point am i good to go with borates, or is TA a concern?

    PSI for Hayward DE6020 Filter

Thanks for the info on the cleaning process...I'll post back later with the results. I'm thinking the gauge is fine only because it goes to zero when nothing is happening, and registers lower pressure amounts when I'm backwashing or rinsing. Maybe the cleaning is the issue, but at this point...

    PSI for Hayward DE6020 Filter

Just got back from a shopping trip to take care of this and some other issues I'm having. I just want to confirm something... The instructions for cleaning the filter specify a 10:1 mixture of muriatic acid. I just want to confirm this is right. On the bottle is says mix 1 pint per gallon...

    Chlorine question

I'm a new pool owner and planning to go BBB. I have a 27,000 gallon IG pool The pool school says I should be adding 2-3ppm daily of chlorine. If I use 1 as my starting value in the pool calculator, and 4 as my ending value (simulating the addition of 3ppm), that suggests for a 27,000 gallon...

    PSI for Hayward DE6020 Filter

I'll get the exact info on the components tomorrow. It's an in ground pool, not a liner (I guess plaster)? 27,000 gallons with a spa. Two skimmers. The water comes back in via a couple jets in the pool and a bunch in the spa (which has a little waterfall setup back into the pool). Here's...

    PSI for Hayward DE6020 Filter

Did the full clean out about an hour ago. Everything went fine. I ran it without any DE until it filled up with water (so water was draining out the value). The PSI is still reading 25... Could it be that 25 is just the normal operating pressure? Any other thoughts on this one before I...

Trying to get Polaris 380 running

Thanks for the info. Again, I've never done anything like this before, so pardon the silly questions here.... How do you know those are DWV fittings as opposed to pressure fittings? I suppose I just take a hack saw and cut right where the red arrows are? My second cut would be to completely...

Trying to get Polaris 380 running

Please see the attached picture. The red arrow is where the leak is. I was planning on tackling this Friday afternoon, although I'm a little unsure of what the problem is. The fact that it doesn't leak if I don't have the polaris cleaner hooked up to the port in the pool makes me question...

    PSI for Hayward DE6020 Filter

duraleigh, the PSI in recirculate is zero (so the gauge isn't stuck or anything like that). If I change it to rinse the PSI reads about 12. Does the 12 PSI in rinse mode give any additional information? At this point I think I'm going to do the full cleaning. Need to buy a torque wrench...
