Question Regarding Phosphate Remover and FC Impact

Shut the swg off 30 minutes ago. Pump will run overnight at 1400rpm. Just did my nighttime test for OCLT. FC = 12. Will see where I’m at in 8 hours. Good night.

Question Regarding Phosphate Remover and FC Impact

Thanks for the reply. I'm waiting to do a water replacement or more likely renewal in the off-season and managing the chemistry in the meantime with PoolMath. It's that decreasing FC over the past week that threw me for a loop but as you and others have pointed out...algae is the likely...

Question Regarding Phosphate Remover and FC Impact

Thanks for the reply. Ya, on the am of July 4th I did panic for a bit but soon saw previous posts on TFP that suggested everything would be fine haha. I've been of the 1/10th mindset where I try to target my FC to be 1/10th of CYA. Still learning but having a good time while doing so...

Question Regarding Phosphate Remover and FC Impact

Thanks for the reply. Just tested the FC after having added the liquid chlorine this am and at a comfortable 10.5. I'm going to run the SWG at 100% for 6 hours just to see if it gives the requisite 0.5ppm/hr increase of 3ppm. I've got a reminder set for 9p to check FC, shut down the SWG for...

Question Regarding Phosphate Remover and FC Impact

Hello - as some of my recent posts here have noted, I have chosen to delve into learning about / making adjustments to my pool chemistry. Armed now for the past two weeks with my Taylor K2006 and a new Jandy Aquapure SWG, I've been feeling pretty good about my work. I still have a pool guy but...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Ya, mine does as well. Their latest (2022) had Hardness at 296 and TA at 208.

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Ya, I was off earlier with the up to 400 reference from tap. BWP's own report from 2022 has their hardness at 296. I test anywhere from 300 to 350 using the Taylor Kit on a garden hose sample. I will offer that I don't know a thing about this aspect of chemistry but i wonder if the initial...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Definitely. For what it's worth, the acid bath I was referring to was for the salt cell ie bathing it in a bucket of diluted muriatic acid. I haven't done an acid bath on the pool since filling it in July 2017.

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

My water co (BWP) in their annual water quality report - last published for year 2022 - had Alkalinity at 208 and Hardness at 296. You're about spot on with your numbers - with BWP being slightly higher. My tests over the past couple of weeks using the Taylor K2006 kit had CH at between 300...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Thanks for the comments. Regarding the SWG, I'm having a new one installed this week. My currently Jandy PCL 1400 is 7+ years old and hits service codes at anything above a 20% setting. Until I replace / renew my water in the offseason I'm going to have to be vigilant about maintaining it...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

I appreciate the vote of confidence! Agreed on the CYA and CH. I think my Salt is ok now? it's on the higher side of the acceptable range at 3400ppm but within serviceable limits for the SWG, I believe. Still though, I plan to do the water swap in the offseason and maintain the other levels...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

You are correct, but I'm still training up on the pool chemistry aspect and don't want to drop him until I am comfortable with all of it. For the $125/mo that I'm paying him - which some have noted is pretty cheap for my area - I'm still sorting out whether it's 'worth it' to have him do...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Ya, I've been making sure I don't get below 7.0. Yesterday's add (only half gallon) seemed to have little impact. I was at 7.8 and 130 (again) this am. I added another diluted gallon and am aerating. Will check again tomorrow. I just tested the water that comes from our garden hose. We...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

I’ve spent the past three days working on one aspect of pool chemistry - TA. I was somewhere between 160 to 180 Friday am with ph of 8 initially after my partial drain and refill. I’ve added 2 gallons of 14.5% muriatic acid diluted with pool water via a Home Depot bucket - 1 gallon friday am...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Two things come to mind. 1) Definitely over the life of the pool he has added the chlorine floater and tabs at times. I will ask that he not do that anymore now that i understand the relationship between the tabs and increased cya as a newly minted apprentice taylor kit chemist haha. 2) Ive...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

I wasn’t aware of this but it definitely helps. Looks like I’m just a tad under 100. I’ll check again when my r13 replacement drops come in. Ran out of them yesterday.

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

A week has passed. Pool guy suggested it may be time to get a new salt cell. Mine is getting inconsistent results...can run at 20% mostly all day but anything higher will trigger a service code error of 120 or 121. What's interesting is that if I don't address the service code, it will...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Thanks for that info. Super helpful. Maybe the $995 water recycle / renewal bid is the way to go. I’ll make some calls Monday to get more info from the city and this water renewal co.

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Ok, will do. I sent the test results to my pool guy commenting that I had just bought a kit so that i could better understand my pool chemistry. Told him I wanted him to see the results so that he could verify any of my results when he is out at my pool this Monday. Told him that draining and...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Thanks for your comments. I did an FC test again this am and saw that I was at 6ppm which means I've lost 1.2 FC overnight. Planning to SLAM following the Pool Math app. Says I should shoot for FC @ 13 but that I need to keep an eye on my ph as well. I'll read through the process a bit more...

Got my Taylor Test (K-2006) - Yikes?

Hello All - Did my intro post last week so I'll keep the intro brief-ish. Had a 14,700 pool with 7x7 spa built in 2017. Only recently did I take an interest in pool chemistry because I was questioning whether my pool guy was treating my salt water pool like a chlorine pool. He hadn't added...

Thank you! Happy to be here! A month or so ago, he had one of those floaters in my pool with chlorine tablets. That seemed to last only a few weeks however before I noticed it was gone again. Here are the test kits that I'm waiting on. Should be here Friday or Saturday: Taylor K1766 Salt...

Hello All - I'm Derek. Been a pool owner for about 12 years. First pool was a classic 20' x 40' with a 9' deep end. Had a one speed pump, one of those classic round deep end lights, no heater, and a diving board. My wife and I had great pool parties at that house. Moved down the street a...
